  3. It’s fine. Only thing for me is why not just put the basketball on the finger already up? Looks a little weird to be holding up both hands with pointer fingers extended.

  6. Wanted to keep this thread going post-Jaz decision. We’re now almost 3 weeks past the Jaz decision with no indication that we’re active in the portal. This could be incorrect given the paucity of info, but there’s no reason to expect this coaching crew to suddenly become aggressive roster enhancers, absent a Trev mandate of course. To me the pertinent roster management question is not how many spots are still open (it’s probably 3), but rather what roster needs do we still have if our goal is, say, 25 wins? Here are my answers: 1) a TRUE point guard who can distribute efficiently first and foremost, but can also shoot and get to the hole well enough to keep defenses honest. Neither Jaz nor Alison fits this description IMO. Jaz is a great shooter when she’s OFF ball, and her great passing vision is offset by her frequently poor passing judgment. Alison, even if healthy, is not a good enough outside shooter or right-hand handler. 2) a low-post scorer/rebounder, i.e., Bourne clone. Maybe one or both of the incoming frosh can immediately fill this need but that’s wishful thinking. In all likelihood we need roster ADDITIONS to meet these needs, so it’s disheartening but not completely surprising that we don’t seem to be pursuing either in the portal. 3) Equally important for 25-win roster management is the development of the existing roster, especially Markowski. Getting Weidner back at full strength is obviously important, but AM simply has to get quicker and more creative offensively, i.e., become a Czinano clone. If our coaches find a way to meet all 3 of these roster needs I think 25 wins is the floor for this team. If none of the 3 occur (unfortunately much more likely in my view) then I think 18-20 is the ceiling.

I just wanna say this is a talented kid who is in line to get a lot of minutes here next year no matter what else happens in recruiting. If he wants to play point, we'll have lots of minutes at point. If he wants to be a combo guard, we'll have lots of minutes for that as well. If he wants to be a 3-and-D wing, we'll have lots of minutes for that, too. And I think he's talented enough to command a bunch of those minutes. I've been looking forward to seeing this kid play for a year now. November can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

If him and Jamarques can stick around for a few years and we could get rice and Dunlap I’d love that core as the young guys going forward and recruit pieces around them. Length, athleticism and shooting ability.

  17. It's fluid. You need to add Allick as a possible add. We may have more spots opening, so we might be able to take more than 2. I certainly would like to see a HS kid like Dunlap be one of them. I'm not Wrightsold. I'm thinking either McCollum or Sallis, but maybe some other PG drops in our laps. Meanwhile, I would be down with adding Allick.

  18. Hunter just wants to make sure he won't get fooled again when he picks a college. He's just getting in tune with his needs. So he's going mobile. If he can get a big payday and we get an NCAA win, I'd call that a bargain. I won't give up hope until the song is over. My wife agrees.

  19. Try and imagine 2 players on the NU Volleyball roster who tied up 2 scholarships for 2 or 3 seasons and almost never saw the court between the two of them due to chronic, long-term injuries. And neither of those players even appeared with their team on the bench during volleyball games. Imagine the NU VB fan base being satisfied with being totally kept in the dark in terms of those players’ statuses with the VB team the way we WBB fans have been kept in the dark regarding Brady and Dillard! But see, the VB staff wouldn’t intentionally keep their fan base in the dark like that. Then again, Cook and his staff wouldn’t mismanage the roster and their available scholarships the way that Amy Williams and her staff apparently have in recent seasons. I feel it important to say that this post is in no way anything personal against Brady or Dillard. I’m sure they’re both great people and my heart breaks for them because their once-promising basketball careers were cut short due to long-term injuries. It’s not their fault. Sometimes life just sucks and doesn’t cooperate with our hopes/plans. Nope, I’m putting all the blame on Amy’s tab for mismanaging her roster and also stonewalling the WBB fanbase and not providing us any information.

  22. Clearly this was a smooth transition and coach Goehle deciding to pursue ministry full time. We have a great coach and staff that represent NU very well. We had an excellent team last year pre injuries to Sam and the acl to weidner. We still were decent even after losing them. We had hardest schedule in history of NU womens bball. Played 9 games against teams that were a 3 seed or better I believe -Indiana Ohio state iowa Maryland and Virginia tech. That’s essentially 9 games against top 12 teams. Plus Drake Creighton Mississippi state and ku were all good too. Plus whole big 10 league was good for the most part. Nobody on this board wants to win more than the players and coaches. They would be first to say they want to and expect to do better. But some of the comments on this board at times are not well founded and speculation that we would go into recruiting season a coach short was nonsense. They have known about this transition and the new coach for several weeks I am sure. We have a fun product. Enjoy it

  25. I don’t know much about Lexi Donarski from ISU. Has she announced her transfer destination yet? If we could get her on campus for a visit, if she saw Hendricks Training Center & PBA, I like our chances at getting her. But maybe she wouldn’t be able to address our need for a true point guard?

I guess it comes down to whether or not it matters if I'm wrong. If it matters that I'm wrong, I'm trying to point out why it is that I might be coming to the wrong conclusion and also trying to point out what might bring me to the right conclusion.

Could be he's planning to relocate but also could be that he's doing a cleanup to take more advantage of NIL or could be some other reason. The funny thing about Lloyd is that from his social media is that I think he wants Nebraska fans to be excited about him but the problem is that his stuff seems to go out of it's way to emphasize his business like approach where unfortunately 'business like' implies that he'll leave if a better opportunity presented itself. If some of the goal is to increase his appeal to the fanbase, he just needs to give some indication he's engaged here. Maybe I'm wrong and that doesn't matter to him. We'll see.

Saw it on Twitter somewhere. Don't ask me where. I just searched "Nebraska portal" and it came up. It was one of the sports guys. Edited: Ooops. This was supposed to be in response to @thrasher31's question about where I'd heard Allick was visiting. Clicked the wrong "reply" button.

1st - 7-2 Nebraska (at Iowa / Minn / at MD / PSU / at Purdue - 23-25 remaining - #8) 2nd - 9-3 Indiana (MD / at NW / Purdue / at MSU - 22-17 remaining - #4) 3rd - 6-3 Maryland (Purdue / at Indiana / NU / Minn / at PSU - 29-22 remaining - #3) 6-3 Michigan St (at Mich / NW / at Illinois / at Iowa / Indiana - 27-27 remaining - #6) 5th - 7-5 Purdue (at MD / Rutg / at Indiana / NU - 26-13 remaining - #1) 7-5 Michigan (MSU / at Minn / NW / at OSU - 16-23 remaining - #11) 7th - 4-5 Iowa (NU / at PSU / OSU / MSU / at NW - 21-27 remaining - #10) 4-5 Rutgers (at NW / at Purdue / PSU / Illinois / at Minn - 20-31 remaining - #13) 4-5 Minnesota (at Illinois / at NU / Mich / at MD / Rutg - 28-23 remaining - #5) 10th - 4-8 Illinois (Minn / at OSU / MSU / at Rutg - 17-22 remaining - #9) 3-6 N’western (Rutg / at MSU / Indiana / at Mich / Iowa - 30-21 remaining - #2) 12th - 3-9 Ohio St (at PSU / Illinois / at Iowa / Mich - 17-25 remaining - #12) 13th - 2-7 Penn St (OSU / Iowa / at Rutg / at NU / MD - 24-24 remaining - #7) Huge series this weekend for us & for Iowa - Hawkeyes will be putting all their eggs into trying to win the series, or they're pretty much out of the conference race. They have a weak schedule over the back half, so they could make a big run late, but they need to close the gap on us. We get 2 of 3 at Iowa, and we have a great chance to win the league, as our back half schedule sets up nicely as well. NW may not win another league game - brutal schedule remaining. And watch out for Rutgers - they have a favorable schedule left and could make a big run up the standings. Michigan's remaining schedule is favorable too.

  41. Not sure he’s received the interest that he thought he would. Although it looks like San Diego State is interested and he visited there this weekend. we should’ve looked at him last off-season. We woulda been a fan favorite and a great guy to have on last years squad.

This Mast thread sort of got sidetracked by Wilhelm. I enjoy reading everyone's opinions, but the bottom line is that young players can make all of us armchair experts look foolish from year to year as they develop. The last player I remember who "didn't belong on a Big Ten roster" was Tominaga, and we all know how that turned out (I can only wish KT returns for another year). So, how about dropping WB evaluation for the present and returning to Mast, who seems to be a great fit for next year.

One thought to the "point guard" debate. So much depends upon the offense being run. In Fred's offense it does not appear necessary to have the prototypical point guard. An initiator of the offense is not an individual responsibility. Rather it is predicated upon numerous factors and situations. I guess the biggest roles of a PG is being the eyes, ears and voice of the coach on the floor. A genuine leader so-to-speak. To me Verge and Mack were failures in that role, where players like Sam and Jeter were more successful. So long story short, Sallis could be successful. QM and Ramel could be successful as well...time will tell. And oh yeah, if we worry about breaking a press; a dribbling point guard, flittering through a press is somewhat archaic. A point forward (such as Walker or Pike) seems more successful, or at least it has worked best for us. Or, schematically busting a press is back breaking to a pressing team. Seems like Fred knows what he wants, and I hope he finds the right mix.
