I’ll tell ya what - if we get who I’m hearing we’re gonna get in the transfer portal - and keep who we’re all hoping we keep - we’re very close.

Us not making the tournament. People would care a whole lot less about other teams if we were winning.

I’m still convinced Cowboy Bill Moos had his mind made up about getting rid of Tim & putting his own “Stamp” on the Program before he ever got on Campus.

For all of our frustrations as a basketball program there is one dubious claim that we have avoided so far. We’ve never lost to a 16 seed.

Everyone seems to be saying it’s a forgone conclusion that Bourne will not come back next year. I am holding out hope that Jaz may decide to return next season, especially with Australian Jessica Petrie coming in. Call it a long shot, call me delusional….I just have to hold out hope that Jaz comes back next year. But as I said on another post - if we lose Sam, Issie AND Jaz next year, no way will we be a better team next season than we were this season. (Not even with Allison W returning) Not with Amy and her staff’s history of under-developing the players on their roster, anyway.

Honestly, the biggest upset last night may have come in the NCAA Wrestling tournament where 3 time defending champion from Iowa got pinned in the semis. Lol. F Iowa. Please enjoy this video of his mom.

We have work experience. We're just terrible at our jobs. It's gut wrenching watching teams like FAU and (almost) Kennesaw State get their first tournament wins and we've had our fair chances at it.

May be a terrible post season resume… but at least they have one. We’re over here with a resume that says “no work experience”

South Dakota State is going to advance in the NCAA. Their Senior center, Myah Sellen, is so solid and has the ability to drive and score against the bigger, more athletic post players of USC. I have always been impressed at how well coached the Jackrabbits are each year by Aaron Johnson. It’s incredible how he wins with small town girls from Minnesota and South Dakota. On a side note, all of these officials checking the clock is ridiculous and it takes forever.

How does the player of the year get one shot in the final 12 minutes? PU's freshman point guard was so bad. The perimeter guys looked like scared little leaguers by the end, praying no one would throw them the ball. Probably the worst choke job in NCAA tourney history. FDU didn't even play that well. I mean UMBC shot lights out from 3 (50%) and better than 50% overall when they upset Virginia - FDU shot 30% from 3, less than 40% overall, and only had 10 FTs in this game.

Goodness. Purdue's guards are straight-up trash so far.

Not to derail too much, but Hoiberg is a proven P5 coach, Frost was not. If the decision is to dip into a coaching search, then choosing a P5 assistant and mid-majors head coach would be just as much of a risk as finding another Frost. I'm still on the Trev train right now. He's shown more initiative for this program than a few ADs before him in this short time. So whatever decision he goes with, that's fine by me. But I'm sure he's been thinking two steps ahead since he had his last performance review with Hoiberg.

I have been a fan since the late 70’s and have always thought the next season will be the year the Huskers win a NCAA tournament game, since that has not happened, Huskerhoops reminds me of this phase: (free beer tomorrow). Unless Fred can bring in multiple top 100 freshmen or proven transfers this program will not make the NCAA tournament, hopefully the 1890 nil collective will help with recruiting. Only 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 23 years is not acceptable from a power 6 program, with resources.

Wow - I've had my eye on her for some time (which was easy for a while since I live in Vermillion). I thought if she could find success at West Virginia (I would have liked to have seen her there another year), she might be a candidate for the Huskers if they decided to move in a different direction. Guess Minnesota is the early bird that gets the worm.

Just like in life, some things come down to timing, situations, and connections. Fred has had a couple of these things work in his favor that may not relate to actual performance.

So, Nebraska had countless injuries where the ball was in the backcourt, and the refs don't stop the game. FAU is driving to the basket and the Memphis player is at half court hobbling to his bench and they stop the game.

At the very least, I sure hope they find those Ukrainian ladies.

I said earlier that we will be very lucky to get a Big 10 team into the Sweet Sixteen. Purdue was putting their hopes on a 3 star freshman point guard who toward the end of the year really looked the part. Don’t remember which loss they had at the end of the year they lost at home and that point guard looked like a chicken with his head cut off dribbling all over the court only to throw a wild pass as the shot clock got down to 0. The hot shot freshman shooting guard lost a lot of his touch and confidence down the stretch too. In that same loss he took three long 3 point shots when Edy was wide open.

I wonder how this will affect the sport, concerning being a fan, into the future. The reasons I personally grew to love it are no longer there. Is the next generation of fan going to be able to foster the same type of attachment? The hooks are already in for me and the rest of us.

Not at all how it works. Matt Davison (not "Davidson") is an employee of 1890. It is not "Davison/1890". The Peeds own it and fund a bunch of it. People with Matt paranoia or disdain overstate his role. There are numerous people involved, at multiple levels (both paid employees such as Joe Selig, and volunteers who help with the asks). While they want to broaden the donor base, like anything else, a few big hitters are giving lots of money. Some are more inclined to support basketball than others. 1890 and those involved know who those folks are (you can see some of them in the Nicolson seats at PBA). When those asks are being made, specific players are discussed, and what it might take to get them. These conversations are not directly involving Fred or Trev, and can't. Yes, there are funds being raised for just basketball. No, Davison can't just unilaterally decide to choose between a football and basketball recruit. Say, for example, a couple of bigs currently on the east coast have expressed interest in transferring. And they are established, really good bigs (stay tuned). People (way beyond Matt) know what it might cost, and the feasibility of raising it. Let's say a certain bigshot gave $50k for the basketball collective last year. Someone is talking to that bigshot now saying "we need $100k now. We can get player X but need the money."

Here’s the formula to dancing. Schedule 3 tough non-con games. Win one, in the other 2 slow the game to a snails pace so your 4 point defeat is a NET dream scenario. Go .500 in B1G play. Most importantly - beat the absolute pants off the scrubs on your schedule. I’m talking all gas, no brakes, full speed, beat downs. Make their coach complain to ESPN after the game that you were full court pressing up 35.

54% of opponents since Hoiberg has been coaching have been NCAA Tournament qualifiers. Under Miles it was 38%. That makes a difference.

AS I watch Wisconsin play Purdue I wonder how the Badgers have shown marked improvement and NU remained stagnant.

This whole situation has been sooooo Tone Deaf from Alabama. Nate Oats has not handled this very well. Jay Bilas tried to give the guy a pass I saw, but most of the nation doesn't think he should be representing the U of Alabama right now.
