Great effort all-around, but those three Mich runs were 54-16. Nebraska gutted back into it at 30-33 at the half, and then to within 64-66 with 3 minutes to go; but, all in all, it's tough to withstand three, let alone two, of those type of major runs (18-6, 21-6 & 15-4). Gotta get better QUICK, the next stretch of games could be even tougher. The B1G is not a league where a bunch of cupcake wins are out there to be had. On to the next... GBR

We got outcoached badly.  Michigan has one of the best though, so it happens.  Give them credit, they played a hell of a game.  We didn't.  Effort was there, just wasn't enough to overcome the coaching edge and more importantly the shooting edge they brought.  Have to buckle up and steal one on the road at Purdue to cancel it.  Unfortunately, cancelling is not good enough at this point.

We did seem to come out unprepared at the start of the game and the start of the half.  LIke we did not expect this to be a team that could kill you from the 3 point line.   Then when we first made a comeback in the first half and got it to 19-13 we inexplicably put both Shields and White on the bench and had 3 lost offensive possessions in a row.   Miles did acknowledge in the post-game that he probably should have started Webster in the second half as he seemed to be the only guy that could keep Robinson from shooting 3's.

But the bottom line is we ran into a hot shooting Michigan team and it seemed like one of those games where the other team kept getting the breaks - not just in the close calls but also just in the bounces and the loose balls.   Sometimes that happens when you don't give good effort - but I really thought for the most part the effort was good today.   We did a great job battling back after their runs but was one of those games where you just spend so much energy trying to catch up you never quite get over the top.  I think if we could have ever gotten a lead we would have pulled away and won the game - we just couldn't quite get there.

I did see some good things today in ball movement offensively.  Thought it was one of Watson's best games as he does seem to keep getting better and better.

This was one we probably needed to win to end up .500 in the conference.  Depressing to lose this one at home - but this is a team with a lot of heart so I am not going to count them out of anything.

Michigan played well.  Man, can they shoot the ball.

I have been going games for a lonngggg time.  Been yelling (not negative, not at all dirty) for a long time.  For the first time EVER, I got told to shushhhh.  I thought people in my section was going to laugh the late 20's early 30' dude out of the arena.  Literally, we had just been called for yet another foul and I yelled "Ref, have you checked out the foul disparity"  and the guy turned around and said shusshhhh.  I have a 7 year old here?????  I believe the guys name must have been Gene.

What the heck.

Michigan looked experienced.  They took control and mostly kept control.  They moved the ball.  They changed up their defenses to confuse us.  They made their free throws.  They beat us.  And it is amazing how tight they can play defense without fouling.

I was going to say just the opposite.  Michigan's switching in and out of zones seemed to bother our rhythm moving the ball around.  At times, our players missed opportunities to take it to the hoop (Webster).  Other times in the 2nd half we missed chances to pass to an open Jacobsen or Morrow.

I do agree with you on Watson's game.  The first couple of games this year, I thought, what a slight build this guy has, he'll never make it in the Big Ten.  He's come a long way.

Why would anyone boo Barry? He did his best and moved to a better fit for himself and a better chance for NU to succeed as well. To me the difference in the game was missing three point shots we usually make in the first half and therefore not generating enough momentum to get Michigan out of their game plan, and the prayer three point shot they hit as the clock ran out late in the second half which could have allowed us to take back some momentum if we had then scored. Not a beat down but disappointing nevertheless. I feel myself losing my tenuous grip on the bandwagon. The open date is probably coming at a good time.

I thought the coaching was alright. We went to the press and seemed to confuse them. Allowed us to get back into the game. Missed some big free throws, and only got to the line 9 times. Add to that going 6 for 22 from 3, pretty much did us in. Miles said it best before the game. They can shoot the 3 and they will backdoor you. You can't take both away. In the 2nd half we didn't take either away. That was the real difference in the game.

Great effort, as many have said, it's just too bad we didn't get a little better start to both halves. I hope that PBA magic isn't totally gone, but as others have said, we have no home court advantage right now, which is baffling. I feel better when we are on the road. I wonder if our young players feel that way too right now? Maybe they are more relaxed and loose, playing like they have nothing to lose on the road as opposed to not wanting to let the fans down when they are at home.

In conference games at the Pinnacle Bank Arena, Nebraska is shooting 35 percent from 3-point territory (30 of 86), while the visiting teams are shooting 42 percent (33 of 79). If you take out Minnesota's miserable effort, NU's opponents are shooting 48 percent.

In conference games on the road, Nebraska is shooting 37 percent from 3-point range (24 of 65), while the home teams are shooting 35 percent (31 of 89).

Of course, Nebraska's home opponents have generally been better than our road opponents, but it's interesting that opposing teams feel so comfortable hoisting 3's in an unfamiliar gym, while the Huskers' shooting percentage is slightly better in unfamiliar gyms.

It also appears that Huskers "love the rim" on the road more than they do at home.

Could be a statistical anomaly that will even itself out over the final 10 conference games.

On to Purdue and let's win that one.  While Michigan State was a great win, it's just one game.  And while this sucks, it's just one game.

Weird how teams can have other teams' numbers, i.e. we apparently have Michigan State's number, and Michigan has ours.  Beilein is a helluva coach, and that offense of theirs today was a well oiled machine.  I remember they burned us two years ago with those back door cuts as well.  It's a tough challenge for such a young team.

Also, I'm starting to wonder if it isn't more important that we get another good shooter than a center.

Chalk me up as one who'd take both a post player as well as a pure shooter/scorer. Call me greedy. ;)

College BB seems to be totally unpredictable this season.  How can OK State blow out KU and get blown up by KSU?  Why is MSU step for step with Maryland tonight.  Kansas and Oklahoma have been erratic in their performances.  Sometimes teams don't show up mentally.  It is a long season.  I don't want to take anything away from a fine performance by Michigan.

PBA was rocking from the start and for most of the game.

I'm not saying anything about refs whether we they were biased one way or another whether we could have one or anything like that, I'm just saying from the start of the game they had no control of anything, and just looked lost.

Lastly, this is the type of game we need Anton gill, We have some guys who are awesome within the offense, but we just needed someone to create a shot from nothing tonight, Glynn may be that someday but not yet

It's kind of weird how better our opponents shoot in PBA compared to how we shoot. When I saw their stats I was suprised they had missed as many shots as they did.

Refs weren't giving us any favors. Was it to pay us back for the calls we allegedly got in East Lansing? That flop on the missed 3 was a pretty crucial turning point. Two threes by Michigan should have been two point shots but they were not reviewed at time out.

It seemed like our guys were incredibly slow to react to the hi-lo pick and roll they were running all game. Was that not in the scouting report?

Finally, it seemed like the 2-2-1 press got us a lot of cheap buckets when we needed them. I'm guessing this is a new wrinkle and I hope it's something we continue with. Anything that disrupts good shooting teams from getting into their offense is a good thing. I can't think of any time we really got burned running it either.

The missed two point/three point calls were obvious on tv. Is the review at time out requested by a coach or must the refs decide to do it themselves? Couldn't the crowd start a chant on a call that is obviously missed that affects the home team? I would guess the referees have forgotten it by the next time out if no one mentions it to them.

don't they make a motion to the scores table that they want to review a play at the next stoppage?

The pick and roll baskets, IMO, were much more demoralizing than the 3 point shots. They shoot over 40% As a team from 3. You have to expect they are going to drain some 3's. Plus the law of averages had to turn in the opposing team's favor. Illinois and Minnesota were awful from 3. The thing about the pick and roll and the backdoor cuts was the fact that we weren't guarding the 3 point line. If we took away the 3's and they were getting lay-ups, we would have been alright. We weren't going to take both away, so we needed to take 1 away.

We actually have brought the press at times starting with the Rutgers game. To run it, we need to make shots. That will be the key. Michigan surprised me with their carelessness passing the ball in the press. We easily could have forced 3 or 4 more turnovers, as we deflected some balls, and nearly deflected others.
