I like the guys we have coming in...and we should he improved because we are pretty bad this year. But the question will be how much improvement will we make? If we don't find a post presence or a PG doesn't step up then I'm not sure we will be a NCAA team. I have faith Smith will develop...but I don't expect Watson and Morrow to fill the roles right away.

 

If Morrow Jr. doesn't contribute right away, I'd be very surprised by that development. Rebounding & interior D are in MAJOR need of upgrade & Ed would provide those skills & a tough mind-set immediately.

 

For what it's worth. I was talking with a Creighton coach the other day and he said Morrow will be a carbon copy of David Rivers.  Now, this could be a Creighton coach talking just to talk, but I thought it was interesting.  And this coach is a nice guy/individual, so I do not believe he was talking trash on some of our recruits.

 

 Rivers isn't a bad player, but I'm hoping Morrow is better than him.  

 

 

Other than a completely different skill set, personality, and eventual 30 lbs difference, gotta say he nailed it.

I hope he was serious.

 

Ed Morrow is to David Rivers as Shavon Shields was to Toney McCray.  Carbon copy.  Can't tell 'em apart.  Except for the ways in which they're different.  Which are many.

Why?  Because it brings out all the 'Positives' surrounding the program from long-suffering fans.

 

I understand your disappointment and frustration; The express ride we all hopped on last year has run into a stretch of rough track.

 

Sure, I’m disappointed like everyone else, but deep down we all knew it wouldn’t be smooth sailing all the way, without a few bumps along the road.

 

Last season the Team over-achieved, Big-Time!  This year; Well, it seems more like water seeking its own level.  We are building a program; and that takes time.  Prospects for the future are Bright!

 

So exactly why does your starting this thread make me feel better?   Other boards I know of are full of negative criticisms; on the program, about the coaches, about the players, with suggestions like; basketball is the 'easiest sport to turn around,' or it's time to 'clean-house.'   Any 'positives' are given short-shrift and quickly shunted aside if the team is not winning,  

 

As a basketball 'Noob' I'd quickly find myself in a deeper funk than the current Huskers' offense, if it weren't for Huskers Hoops Central and the perspectives of this forum.

 

That's why I find I'm spending more and more time on this site, discussing the program and its prospects with avid, knowledgeable fans.

This is going to come off as crazy talk, but I honestly don't think our offense is that bad.  I think a LOT of it has to do with the fact that we simply can't shoot the ball.  Go back and watch the film and watch to see how many WIDE open shots we miss.  Guys are going to have to make some shots.  Period. 

 

Hopefully White is as good as a shooter as they say and hopefully Watson is as good as they are making him out to be.  Then we just have to hope Morrow can be that banger down low that can get us some points.  I never wanna put too much stock into freshman as its just a different level in College, but hopefully he is a guy that can do some dirty work and get us some rebounds and junk points.

I hate to throw some cold water on that theory but people had wide open shots because the scouting report said, "Let them shoot."

A mixed bag. I'm not sure how you lose to Incarnate Word or let a crappy Creighton team run you at home and not come to the conclusion that we came out expecting to win so that's a sobering point.

I agree, good article. In Miles we appear to have one of those few coaches who can pull off an off the cuff extemporaneous speech without resorting to cliches,and still be entertaining. Al Maguire was the best at this but Abe Lemons was not far behind. Danny Nee was ok but profane with an underlying nasty streak. This is a real talent which few have and I hope the fans appreciate it. I think the key is to have a self deprecating wit and to be honest with the audience.

Miles isn't a coaching genius. His recruiting track record is decent though he's obviously whiffed.

He's building this program though. That's more important to long term Wins and Loses. The people who think Miles should be at home watching 4 more hours of tape instead of doing stuff like this don't understand the program building style and vision of Miles. I hope he never leaves.
