uneblinst's postgame chatter: vol 16; ed 33- Illinois

Not having C.J. to at least play some minutes really hurt us in the 2nd half.  Can’t be terribly disappointed because we had some bad matchups in this game.  Yes, the foul disparity was there but when you shoot mostly perimeter shots you aren’t going to get free throws.

Let’s put this behind us and get prepared for our game Thursday or Friday.  Please NCAA, do not put us in the 11:00 AM game Thursday. I should say please CBS don’t put us there.

Illinois shot 8 more 3-point shots than Nebraska.

Nebraksa shot 42 2-point shots to IU’s 34.

But please carry on with your enlightened takes about the foul disparity.

I don't think Nebraska has ever been in an 11 am game.  Doesn't mean they won't this year.

Looks like Huskers needed to requisition some helmets and shoulder pads from the football team for today’s game.

Couldn’t believe, for example, the play in the second half where Hoiberg got run over by Shannon—literally, and head-on and outside the arc—but no-blood-no-foul, I guess.

This is why Illinois has been laying an egg in the tournament every year in recent times—they can’t get away with the same physicality with officials outside the B1G.  Perhaps they’ll prove otherwise this time around?

Also, Huskers looked gassed in the second half and didn’t have the legs to make their threes.

Welp, that sucked. Shannon is as good as there is in the country when he's allowed to play like that and, to his credit, he took full advantage of how the game was being called. If he's allowed to play like that next week, too, that's an easy Sweet 16 team and maybe more.

To Underwood's credit, taking that quick timeout 90 seconds into the second half did the trick. They turned it on after that.

Thought we hung in there despite some horrendous foul trouble until Goode banked in that 3. That broke us. Saw some heads hanging on that one.

Positive spin is that we now can get an extra day of rest and prep for the NCAAs. Don't have to worry about the nightmare of playing on Sunday and then having to turn around and get assigned a Thursday game.

I am more confident than ever that we are really good. I think having a more free-flowing style of basketball, like usually happens in the NCAA Tournament, will benefit us versus the bull-in-a-China-shop style that B1G games, like today, sometimes become.

It's usually all about matchups now, but I like our ability to match up with a wide range of styles against a similarly talented team in an 8-9 or 7-10 game.

Been a really fun season.   Can't let one bad half put a damper on it.   Not too high - not too low.   Just regroup and take of business next week.

Debating whether to even watch the game tomorrow.    Both teams easy to root against - no team to root for.  Only thing worse than a Wisconsin - Illinois final game would be one with Iowa.

Short turnaround, short bench and apparently some kind of bug running through the guys right now probably doomed us in this one.

Might be a blessing in disguise though, having an extra day of rest before we play our first round game may prove helpful.

(But it would have been nice to get to the final, we would have been the home team)
