uneblinst's postgame chatter: vol 16; ed 29- Ohio State

Recommended Posts

Of the last three regular season games, that was the one Q1 opportunity so it was a bit of a chance to get a B1G win but it doesn't kill NU either. Oh well, gotta take care of business in the final two Big Ten games, though .No question about that. Oh, the refs were garbage, there I said it. Ohio St. will get boat-raced by the Huskers when the Bucks are not given a 20-FTA advantage, that is, if NU were to play them in the BTT.

Hard to argue with Gary taking the threes after Sunday though.

He shouldn't have taken 6 or whatever number it was without hitting any.... oh well, he came down to earth. After that dunk (which he was fouled!!) it didn't feel like he'd come back to earth. Alas, we gotta move on to besting Rutgers after that debacle at the RAC.

From UNL

*-Nebraska hit 10 3-pointers tonight, and now has 274 3-pointers on the season. That broke the school record of 270 set in 2018-19. NU falls to 10-5 when hitting at least 10 3-pointers
*-Jamarques Lawrence has now reached double figures in each of the last three games and four of the past six games since moving to the bench. Lawrence also paced NU with five assists.
*-With Lawrence reaching double figures, NU has now had at least one double-figure effort n 24 of 29 contests.
*-Rienk Mast finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for his team-high sixth double-double of the season. It was the 11th double-double by a Husker this season.
*-Ohio State snapped a three-game losing streak to Nebraska dating back to 2022

Officiating didn’t lose us this game. They let us play physical defense. We shot poorly and any time we had a chance in the first half to put some distance between us we missed key shots.  Had numerous chances to tie or take the lead in the second half and missed some good looks and they answered with some tough makes. They had a lot of transition points off of really great looks we had. You’re not gonna win when you shoot 38% on the road and the other team shoots 40% from 3. We missed a lot of shots close to the rim and they got some timely offensive rebounds. We ended up with shorter guards on Battle and he hit some tightly guarded 3s against smaller players.  We did okay on the glass. They were money from the line. Overall I thought we played decent.  Sometimes it’s a make or miss game.  It’s not always poor officiating and it is deflection from the reality of not being the better team tonight.

At risk of belaboring the bad officiating take, we had 3 guys with 4 fouls; they had no one with more than 2.

Final foul disparity was 21-9. Ohio State got whistled for half of their usual foul count.

One more thing: If Lurch was bald, he'd look like DJ Carstensen.

You can’t expect to shoot more free throws every time when you jack up 3s at a league leading rate.

Nebraska may not have deserved to win this game, but the game should have gone down to the wire. The FTAs were a HUGE difference in how the game went, and that's a damn shame for this particular team. Juwan Gary should have been attacking the rim instead of settling for threes, it was so stupid. And, for heaven sake, Rienk, make a 5' shot once in a while. I was so livid that Ohio St. beat NU tonight. If they play again in the BTT, Nebraska rolls 'em. Time to smash RU, then find a way to get a dub vs Mich. at Crisler. GBR!!

The officiating was despicable.   That said, if we defend better, if we shoot better, if we rebound better, if we take care of the ball better, we win this game going away.

Keisei is hitting on about five of eight cylinders.  Reink was missing in action as was Juwan, Brice and CJ for large portions of the game.  And once again we lose on the road.

Cripes, I am still waiting on us to play a full 40 minute game  Especially on the road.  I was hoping we were beyond that inane inconsistancy.

So yeah, it's just one game and yeah, we can overcome this; but dang, if we truly want to get to the dance and win at the dance, these games simply cannot happen.

When Nebraska has a dearth of good officiating, particularly when involving these bald-headed pecker refs, it never seems to work out all that well in the end. Gotta play better, though, too, especially on the road. Oh well, time to prepare for Rutgers. The Knights just rolled Mich. 82-52. Then it's time for NU to finally win at Crisler, which has never happened before. A lot to look for in these final two B1G ballgames. Win and I believe they're 'in' after these next 2 games. Nothing left to do but WIN OUT! GBR!!

Hindsight, but probably should have brought back in Brice in the 1st half with 2 fouls.  However,  with this clown show it would have been seconds before they whistled him for his 3rd foul

Ughh. When people say the refs don't affect these games, they're not rationally seeing how all these rotations get screwed up & guys get jacked as far as playing time. Brice, Juwan & even Keisei took crap calls for fouls, and same for Lawrence too. It was a hot mess in Columbus. Time to move on, but I just can't shake how awful this one hurt. Ughh.

Disappointed but not super mad.

Felt like this was a golden opportunity to seize and lock in a spot and play care free the next few games.

Makes Sunday that much more important, if we lose that one the road game vs Michigan becomes HUGE.

Just win both these final 2 games. Then don't have to sweat out the BTT, that becomes gravy for seeding/location while already dancin'. GBR!!

Officiating was straight garbage. OSU also played very well. Love him/hate him, Battle is a baller. This is what makes the B1G so tough, OSU is so talented they fired their coach and woke up the next morning and had a Top 25 Team. They're tied for 12th in the conf right now BTW.

Who knows, Ohio St. might still believe they can get hot in Minneapolis to grab an auto-bid to the Big Dance. It was the perfect storm for Battle, too, he's waning in his college career so he showed out. If nothing else, the Bucks are an N.I.T. squad, along with Iowa & Minny, likely as well. Those 3 B1G teams all have 17 wins. On to the next, RU on Sun.

Not a bad loss.  We played hard.  OSU played well.

Their record is a joke compared to their talent.  These two teams mirror each other a bit.  Had to turn in an A to win, and we played a B game.

I continue to be amazed as JL’s development.

We were in a position to win the game and the refs decided only OSU was allowed to contest at the rim.  That was the difference.  Otherwise it was pretty much a toss up.

Onto another murder in PBA.

That wasn't great, but oh well. Not a back breaker.

-love Gary and what he was able to do on Sunday, but he missed 6 3 pointers. After missing 3, he needs to space out and drive vs shoot off catches.

-Brice couldn't really get going due to foul trouble. J law resurgence of late helped offset that, but a long wing like him would've been helpful.

-refs were bad and good. I'd say inconsistent more than anything. Let some stuff go that was then called a foul on the opposite end. Despite that, they were within 2 with 3 minutes left, so they had it right there. Needed to close, which they didn't.

-cj needs to see a few go through the bucket to get going. He did today a bit, so that should help hopefully.

Rutgers is an opportunity to solidify and lock our bid in. They had a good game last night, but were coming off 3 straight losses by double digits prior to that. I also think Michigan very bad. Watch the tape, turn the page, and get ready for Rutgers

Carstensen always reminds me of this guy.

This defense is very much an "analytics" defense. On the average it is going to workout very well because it takes away (in theory) the biggest risks an opposing team can provide. However, this defense's biggest flaw is when one dude decides he's going to go off. There is no answer, because to face guard/no catch a guy, or maintain one primary defender on them, it would ruin the entire structure of the defense.

Which terrifies me about an NCAA tourney game, when those games are typically decided by a dude being a dude.
