Mike Sautter reporting we reached out to William Kyle as soon as he entered the portal. Among bigs, we've also reached out to Michigan Sophomore Tarris Reed.

Guards, the list is long.

And appears to be of pretty high quality. We don't have our sights set low, for sure.

The conversation over in recruiting about which guard spot Janowski is going to slot into helped me solidify how I feel about the portal this year. I thought I wanted someone who can get to the line, and someone who can defend at the basket.

Now, I’m just hoping we are able to get guys we need to fill all the roles on the team, whether they’re the highest rated or not. If Fred and company see them fitting in a role, I want them. Come the first game, I don’t want our starting lineup to have anyone playing out of position because we NEED them to.

Last off season we were really one, maybe one and a half deep, at the point guard spot. That one player was ruled ineligible around August (?) and we didn’t have a solid backup plan, and had Lawrence as our starting PG. He did as well as could be expected given the situation. But I don’t want him, or anyone else, in that situation this year.

There will always be injuries, suspensions, and in the NIL age players could bolt at anytime. I hope through the portal this year, we’re able to build a roster that is robust to the inevitable player getting hurt, suspended, leaving etc. I think about how much it felt like our NCAA chances were gone when we thought Gary tore his Achilles. I don’t want a single incident like that feeling like we can’t overcome it.

Kudos to the coaches for milking 40 minutes of PG play out of a few different players and still getting us to the dance. Let’s go build a roster now that can just work on getting better together, instead of having to learn how to play new positions.

this whole thing feels like a choo choo barely hanging on the tracks...the NCAA has to be wishing it had an anti-trust exemption about now....

Edit: i acutally thought they were exempt....but that explains why NIL exists....so of course now there are people trying to get an exemption like that passed so they can put the NIL genie back in the bottle again...

going to be an interesting couple of years ahead to see if some sort of peace can be had between two deeply incompatible interests...

anyhoo, sorry for veering off with this comment....just wanted to fix my initial screw up...

hopefully this can be a decent standalone thread somewhere appropriate...

IOWA CITY, IA - JANUARY 15: Iowa guard Tony Perkins (11) hugs Iowa guard Ahron Ulis (1) after winning a college basketball game between the Maryland Terrapins and the Iowa Hawkeyes on

Tony Perkins and Ahron Ulis were roommates at Iowa. The dude is built like an outside linebacker, has good athleticism and diced us up for 15 assists this year. Nebraska fans have recently become enamored with the stature of Texas A&M's guards. Well, he's bigger than all of them.

This is all starting to fall apart!

Oh come on. He had a great January then reverted back to his inconsistent shooting the final six weeks. When he’s hot you can put up with his poor defense and dribbling. When he’s not he’s a major liability.

I’d much rather have a more well rounded and consistent player, even if his overall 3P% is lower.
