Supposedly, Standhardinger drove out there after leaving the Huskers.  He was sorely disappointed. So he then drove to Chadron...

I’m sure you’ll know this Cip, those numbers were determined around the End of WWI, that’s why Cedar County is 13 & Sarpy is 59. Nuckolls comes in at 42 in the Meaty part of the Curve, & it’s in the middle of nowhere.

blast from the past. it's been years since i've seen the vertical 59 of sarpy county. the only plate of its kind in NE.

Of course now Bellevue's exploded from when I first moved there. A tiny 20k pop in 1976. What is it now? Like 60k?

Good history, Handy.   The numbering reflected the number of registered vehicles in a county in 1922.   Seeing the changes over the next hundred years in the counties is fascinating (well, if you're a Nebraska history nerd like me).   While most of the top 10 have stayed roughly the same, there are some outliers.   Custer County (Broken Bow) is #4.  Gage County (Beatrice), #3, would be double digits now.   Saunders County (Wahoo) at #6 would slip.  Knox County (Creighton, but County seat is Center) would move way down the list from #12.  Many would move up the list, but most prominently Sarpy County as mentioned.

2020 census it was just over 64,000.  Amazing.   OK, I will stop hijacking the thread.

You don't really hear any of the pundits discussing the poor road performance of several of the top Big 12 teams, but they're really not much different than we are:

Kansas:  2-4 with victories over Indiana (+4) and Oklahoma State (+29); worst loss to West Virginia (-6)

Baylor:  2-3 with victories over Oklahoma State (+5) and UCF (+8); no bad losses

Texas Tech:  2-4 with victories over Texas (+11) and Oklahoma (+1); worst loss to TCU (-7)

Oklahoma:  2-3 with victories over Cincinnati (+4) and Kansas State (+20); worst loss to UCF (-11)

BYU:  2-4 with victories over UCF (+5) and West Virginia (+13); no bad losses

There is a notable difference in margin of victory, though.  We have had so many double-digit defeats on the road (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Maryland, Northwestern) whereas these schools have virtually eliminated those losses.

Bellevue has passed Grand Island as your THIRD largest city & 20 years ago McPhearson County (92) was sadly the Poorest County in these United States 🇺🇸

McPherson was last dry county in Nebraska. The high school football games were played in the afternoon as the field has no lights. The scoreboard operator and pa guy sat in box of pick-up during games.

the committee should not factor in road wins at all. there are no true road games in the ncaa tournament.

It is a way, however, to differentiate teams with similar resumes though.  It's a valid tool to help determine whether a team is in or out over its peers and can also help with the seeding process.

I came here to post this. How amazing would that be??

Let me dream for a second because it’s on a bracketology. But this would help ensure Nebraska wins since they are “national champs” at home.

Kind of interesting that #28, Hamilton Co., would now be the 29th most populous at 9,400 people. Hmmm.

Can we change that opening weekend venue to PBA, thanks, that'd be great.
