  1. I am retired; but have a part-time gig that provides some insider information. WB worked hard for his recovery and to build his skills. He never fully recovered his springs which hindered his performance. I simply believe he was undervalued. I really believed that with an off-season free of injury, we would see an improved product on the court. But like you, I base that on his reputation, in part. Hey we move on. Players come and go and I simply saw him as a complimentary piece of the puzzle that I thought could help us turn the corner. He had his faults, but again, others have faults as well. We move on.

  3. I never asked you to apologize, I just did not want to offend because you seem very attached/defensive of him, which I greatly appreciate the dedication and love for our guys. I also have no intent of being overly critical or negative towards our guys, however I do feel like an honest conversation and evaluation of his abilities is warranted now that he is gone. I also have to caveat that I think Wilhelm is a phenomenal young man, appreciated his contributions, and think he can be a very nice piece to a mid-major type team. And I also acknowledge his injury created set-backs for him. Why do you feel he is/was such a tough/hard worker/dirty work guy? Do you have inside information regarding his, like, weight room or practice habits or something? Nothing about what he did on the court said to me he worked harder or less harder than anyone else on the team. Again, I am not, in anyway, say he isn't or wasn't a hard worker. I just think he's getting a bit of a..... "goofy looking guy" pass here. One just assumes he works hard because of how he looks. Nothing I saw or heard seemed he did anything extraordinary I guess? He certainly took some shots and kept getting up - but I kinda feel all our guys do? I think what can be mistaken for his "effort," often looked liked someone who was clumsy and out of control. And he never seemed to fix or address that. So many silly fouls, just so many. And him ending up on the floor or in precarious situations seemed less to me about his effort but more of an indictment of his clumsy, bull-in-a-china-shop physical capabilities. As far as basketball goes, his jump shot was B-R-O-K-E. Probably works well in a practice-gym setting receiving kickouts from a rebounder, but with bullets flying, that thing hit the side of the backboard more times than I care to remember. He continuing to have a greenlight is more of an indictment of Coach Hoiberg's philosophy than it is Wilhelm, to be fair. I will admit - much of my disappointment and criticism of WB comes from his HS ranking. If he was a local kid who we knew was a development project I'd probably be ecstatic - for a lot of the reasons you stated above. I mean this was a top 150, near 4-star (right?) type kid that I thought was going to be the perfect stretch 4 for Hoiberg's system and I thought you'd see the ability/pieces right away even as freshman. But it is what it is I suppose.

One only has a year of eligibility left, and the others are in their fourth or fifth year right now so may not return the next year. Your second year, you will be in line for a lot of playing time." One upside with Ulis having 2 years remaining is that if he works out great we have him for another year and if he doesn't work out he can easily grad transfer somewhere else.

  17. One thing thing that occurred when we essentially swapped WB for Allick is that we opened up another scholarship in 2024-25. With our glut of guys on the roster with a 2025 graduation date, that's fairly helpful for recruiting out of HS.

  21. He had several games this year where he was a complete nuisance doing little things. K st gane is was tremendous. If memory serves Iowa read win he made some key plays. Depending on how our schollies are used, I would have been more than fine with him back.

  22. I am coming around to not completely hating RSL. I live less than an hour from their stadium, and my wife and kids enjoy going to RSL matches for the environment/energy level/concession stand (basically all the stuff that casual fans enjoy). It's just hard to cheer for one of your own team's rivals, even if it is now your local team. I am hoping that the proximity with St Louis will eventually make StLFC the main rivalry for SKC, freeing me up to enjoy RSL matches with the family while not feeling like I need to take a cold shower afterwards.

I'm feeling better and better about this pickup. I know we're all riding the disappointment of not getting Sallis etc but getting a PG with B1G experience at this point in the game is pretty darn decent.

On the other hand, I'm sure the Hawkeyes would have been just-fine with him staying in Iowa City--even stipulating that he isn't a one-and-done prospect. Playing in 85 games for them over three years and, over those years: starting 22 games; averaging 15.6 minutes per game; and producing a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio as a point guard. That's serviceable for what Nebrasketball needs. As with all transfers, only time will tell where the new scenery will lead for him. Each of the transfers considered before him had some baggage: (i) erratic and emotive play for one, and (ii) small size for another. Perhaps the third one is the charm?

    Quaran McPherson

I still wonder if it's McPherson instead of Sam Hoiberg who gets run after Bando went down had QM been healthy. Otherwise, this thread should see action until about 2028 or so since QM has 4 years of eligibility left.

  31. So SKC is undefeated in games you watch, and winless in games you don't. I hate to break it to you, but you just signed yourself up for the responsibility of watching every single match for the remainder of the season. We're all counting on you. Don't let us down.

Talked to a Hawkeyes beat writer who is always been fairly even-handed. He doesn’t think much of him as a player. He said his family and close confidants seemed to get into his head that he should be used differently than how Iowa did. It’ll be interesting to see if he does have more to his game.

I always hate people kicking a guy when he’s down. Message boards are the worst: internet geniuses hiding behind anonymity . . . and trashing a kid. Kinda pathetic, if you ask me (though no one ever has).

  43. Nope. Not that it matters. I liked him because I viewed him as a tough mother. He seemed willing to do the dirty work that few appreciate. He had bad wheels that he worked to overcome. He had a good left hand around the basket and good hands. He was criticized for his clumsiness which is fair. He was criticized for his outside shot...but he apparently was greenlighted by someone. I just think more highly of him than many of my brethren, and for that, I do not apologize.

I’m All About “Glue Guys” & “Lunch Pail Guys” but Wilhelm I think is better served playing where he isn’t so Athletically overmatched. He couldn’t shoot off the dribble, drive by defenders or score with his back to the basket. I’m sure he’ll find a School that better suits his needs, & he’ll always be a Husker. #GBR

Yeah, the players do all have evauations completed at years end. They likely have them throughout the year as well. They are typically quite specific and sometimes not what a player wants to hear. It topically includes foreseeable role and items that need to be refined or overhauled. The problem these days is that each player also has their own evaluators and hanger-ons that may be telling him something completely different. Some players are much more coachable then others. In short, some players don't like or want the role being planned for them, some players don't feel they need to improve in the areas identified, so some players leave on their own. Sometimes it is at the prodding of their coaches or their hangers-on...butI do believe that there are certain players who are asked to move on.

Allowed? That's technically not how transferring works. When we give out a scholarship to someone, it's for four years. If we flat out tell a guy he should transfer out and he doesn't want to, then he doesn't have to.
