The problem is miles has to sub at some point and Morrow is a foul machine right now. Need at least 8 players to make a rotation. With that said definitely would like to see some of the younger guys get more minutes so may as well start them so they can get a rest and then come back in to maximize their time on the floor.

I'm trying my hardest to not make over-sweeping generalizations after seeing two games, but..... I like doing that.

Can't play Benny and Tai at the same time. Neither can play as many minutes as they do.

Hammond..... No comment. Nice kid

Watson/Morrow/McVeigh - the future

White = real deal

Team's not gonna win many games this year, but we're gonna look more promising doing so.

Can the man Trueblood get a shoutout for that drive and finish late?

A few things. What's with this teams continued struggle versus a press? Very disappointed in Tai, problem he is likely our best defender. Was disappointed in Benny as well. This team always seems to be one guy a way. Really, really need to find a quality 5 and a legitimate 2 guy.

Looks like the coaching staff is going to experiment as well.  The fact that they were disappointed with the starting guard play is likely a gross understatement.  I will not go as far as banish Benny and Tai from the starting line up, and I would never declare a college kid as a waste, but there has to be changes in their play if they are to stay in the rotation.  Upper classmen or not, you have to understand your role and succeed in your role if a team is to be successful.

Webster has had plenty of time to prove himself. He just isn't very good. Since we aren't redshirting Evelyn, Miles should give Tai's minutes to Bakari and maybe even some to Trueblood. The worst thing that can happen is they will struggle....we're already doing that with Tai.

Have to wonder if maybe Evelyn's defensive skills just arent there yet.  He had the injury over the summer/fall that may have put him behind a little.  But, in just a few games I have seen he has more offensive potential than Tai has shown thru his career.  Tai+Benny on the offensive end...getting 20+ minutes is just not a winning combination IMO.

It might not a be a big deal, but I HATE watching our guys just stand around after a made shot or made FT by the other team and let the other team set up in their press while we wait for a certain guy to inbound it. The way I've been taught, a quick inbounds can kill a press because the press can't get set up soon enough. I would love to see us have some sort of quick inbounds press breaker we could use

Watson -- Parker/Evelyn/Trueblood

White -- Evelyn/Trueblood (I don't think Tai should handle the ball)

Shields -- Webster

McVeigh -- Fuller/Jacobson

Morrow -- Hammond/Jacobson

-----

I call this our best lineup, and I wouldn't mind these being the starters.  All five players are a threat to score, and all five players play good defense.

I'm proud of Tai and Benny's effort, and I'm glad they're on the team, but both of these guys should be viewed as defensive specialists and nothing more.  Bring them off the bench to be sparks who can take risks, create turnovers, and annoy the crap out of the other team's best ball handlers.  They aren't confident in their current roles as offensive facilitators, and they shouldn't be.  It's not who they are.

Hammond is serviceable as a backup center at this point, and so is Jacobson.

Morrow needs more minutes to adjust to the speed of the game and the fouls he's not used to committing, but he's a dominant talent, and for awhile last night, he was giving an NBA center fits.

McVeigh looks skinny, but he's very sturdy and confident.  He's a much more physical player than I thought he would be, and he can definitely play the stretch 4 role.  He's a great passer too, which shouldn't be overlooked.

I think we have to play to our players' strengths and throw away the experience cliche.  These young guys are playing at this level in AAU before they get here.  They're an obvious upgrade in talent and skill.  Put them out there.

I think the rest of your post was spot on, but I don't think Ochefu is an NBA center.

I think he's fringe for sure.  He's certainly athletic enough.  I hear you though.

It's a problem when neither member of your starting backcourt tandem is a perimeter shooting weapon.  And neither Tai nor Benny are.

Miles says "you are what you cover."  In other words, he identifies players by the defensive assignment rather than the offensive one.  I see McVeigh as more of a small forward/wing than a power forward right now.  He just isn't beefy enough to be a B1G big, though he might be able to get there over time.  His length, though, allows him to make up a bit for a current lack of foot speed.

Having said all of that, though, I'm not sure Jack is ready to enter the starting lineup.  And I don't think White is really a 2.  For that matter, Morrow isn't really a 5, either, but he's going to give us more being in that spot than what we're probably going to get out of Hammond, unfortunately.

So, I'd say move Benny out of the starting lineup in favor of Watson.  Or move Tai out in favor of Watson.  Either way, Watson probably needs to start.

Start Ed at the 5 and then let Shavon and Andrew deal with the 3/4 spots.

And I don't know who to recommend at the 2.

Getting the ball in ASAP minimizes the effectiveness of a press big time. Whoever gets the ball gets out of bounds and gets it in to whoever is open. Then that person passes it back to the in bounds person as he runs full speed to attach the D.

for sure Tai, and Benny cant start, or play extended min on the court together, and Watson needs to be starting, aside from moving Tai to the bottom of the rotation, he still has to play until coaches for more comfortable with Bakari.
