Had they known we don't return Deverell Biggs, I wonder where they'd have put us.

Since they didn't know...it is kind of hard to put much stock in their opinion.

Dang, I still like the way it sounds.

Crazy to think that it's not out of the realm of possibility if/when the transfers are factored into the Nebrasketball equation. Once again, the only top 20 team in the state. Hopefully Crayton doesn't hurt our RPI next season! ;)

How about when transfers factor into Ohio St, Michigan, and Michigan St?

How 'bout for Tom Crean? ;)

BTW, my reference to transfers would be: +1 for dropping Biggs and whatever 'odd pieces' that Miles & Co. have under the radar (maybe wishful thinking on my part).

We certainly will no longer be flying under anyones radar.  We will have higher expectations, improved talent and in all liklihood, a pretty tough schedule.  I had rather high expectations for this team this year; and next year, I expect us to be in the top four of the Big Ten plus I expect us to make it (at minimum) to the round of 32, and really will be pleased to make it to the sweet sixteen.  Wow, did I just write that?

I would much rather be under the radar going into next year

All this exposure helps on the recruiting front. That's SEVEN months that Miles can go into a recruit's house, point to a preseason poll and say, "See. We've arrived. You're coming to a big-time school." It's tangible evidence. Not to mention, it helps immediately in trying to get any 5th-year transfers who want to play for a winner next year.

I love the exposure but I don't get all of the love with our current roster and what we have coming.  Also, I am still conditioning myself as a husker hoops fan not to get too high.  I do think we are going to have some cool roster moves over the next three weeks that will be exciting (just a guess) and then maybe some preseason talk will be warranted.

I agreed with the guy that thought the move from 44th to 30th with no top 100 recruits would be a solid, solid move for us.  This talk of 2nd highest team in the BIG 10 seems a bit ambitious.  Of course I still can't believe how we went 11-7 and just flat out grabbed an NCAA birth.

lol..I looked at a number of the pre season polls and was(n't) shocked about how a certain team isn't ranked or even given honorable mention. That's all I'm going to say on them.

Iowa is ranked in some of the polls.  :P

Next year will be a lot tougher than this year.  Now we will be expected to make it back to the tournament.  We gotta focus and get better in the offseason.

This might deserve it's own thread -- and maybe there's been one on it already -- but I expect some degrees of improvement from all of our players.

Learning curves are steep or slight depending on how close you are to getting to the top of them.  I think there are a couple of our players who have significant room for improvement and should come back next fall having made tremendous strides.

A couple of our other players are closer to maximizing their abilities and will likely make only incremental improvements in their games, with things like just being more consistent here or there.

Shields and Petteway are probably closer to the tops of their respective learning curves.  They still have things to work on:  being more consistent shooters; ball skills; etc.  They'll improve between now and next fall but their improvements might be harder to detect because they'll just be fixing the little things here and there.

A couple of other players still have some steep learning curves and could (emphasize COULD) still show substantial improvements between now and next fall.  Tai Webster is a very poised young man for the circumstances he was thrown into.  I think Tai could come back night and day better than he was this year.  And that is no knock on Tai.  Yeah, he had some freshman struggles, but that kid has tremendous upside and has 8 months to work on things before we go live next fall.

I'd like to see Tai stick around for most of the summer and work here rather than go back home and compete for his national team.  With the newer NCAA rules that allow coaches to work with kids during the summer, and with the summer trip they have in the works, he could really leverage that experienced to come back as a totally different kid.

I also think Walt has a steep learning curve.  And that's not a knock.  It's not saying he's dumb or bad or anything.  It's just a reflection that he has a high ceiling that allows for a great deal of improvement.  He and Leslie and Jacob Hammond need to battle each other this summer trying to score and defend against each other in the low post.  That's an area where probably all three of those guys could make tremendous strides in the off-season.

I think everyone will come back just a little bit better but some of them could come back a whole lot better and how much better they become is entirely up to them.  Let's hope they do it.

Would also like to see Tai practice in Lincoln instead of competing in a watered down summer league. I get he's probably homesick as hell, but he has a ton of work to do in the offseason. Probably more than any other player by far. Tai needs to become a true point, and focus on ball handling and passing and maybe finding a way to average 8-10 per game. I think that's his value in D1 ball right now. I mostly just want Terran freed up from running point so he can move without the ball a lot more next season.

Walt blew me away this season. Much more athletic than I thought he was, and serious upside. I thought Walt showed more learning ability than any other player. Radically different player at the end of the season than he was at the beginning. I'm already piking him as my dark horse player for next season, even over Tai who had a lot more room to improve. If he spends the summer working on rebounding and positioning, and playing with his back to the basket, he could be lethal.

Can't wait to see these guys next year.
