The kids did really well tonight.  All of them.  They really seem to be cohesive as a team.  Shields had about a career night, but Benny was a star in his own right and even David Rivers did some nice things.  Some of the matador defense in the second half has to improve but you have to be happy with the kids tonight, whether their name is Shavon, Benny or even Sergej.

Who wanted to get rid of Benny Parker?

I was one.  I have to think Biggs and Gallegos eat into his minutes but he will help depth and be a spark.

I do think Serj though is a guy that somehow ends up elsewhere.  Though its the first game he looked completely lost out there and had Miles and Smith telling him where to be a couple times in his short time on the floor.  He just looked so unathletic moving around and just didnt seem to fit imo.

I certainly am guilty on both counts - thinking Shields would have a sophomore slump and Parker a transfer candidate at the end of the year - not sure I said that publicly, though, until now.  Glad to see I'm wrong so far.

Just because Parker appears to have improved doesn't mean he won't transfer. It still looks like he will be a backup to Webster and Biggs.

Who cares? We can cross that bridge if it comes.  He can play a role this year regardless of what happens at the end of the season.

benny flashed what's going to be his trademark this season. he's going to wind up a designated defender that can score. he's too quick to not put on the court given the rules situation this year and he showed he's improved his drive to be able to finish amongst bigger players. interesting thing is what we saw tonight he showed sparks of last season, if one were willing to look.

People keeps saying he likes being in here....I'd say having a guy who can contribute when needed and won't bail on you if he doesn't get a ton of playing time is at this time a very valuable asset for us.

Parker surprised me last night.

He was noticeably quicker than last year. Still question his long term role....but he's improved and played well last year.

I agree he looked quicker, but I would say that that had less to do with improving his quickness and more to do with improved confidence.

Being healthy might be part of it too.

I hope I'm not ticking any of you off by saying this. I know that many over here think that Doug McDermott is not that good, but Shields reminds me of Doug more that any other player I've seen.

Who thinks Doug isn't that good?  Possibly overrated slightly but I don't think anyone thinks he isn't good.  Now back to regularly scheduled Husker discussion.  You aren't needed.

I don't know that I've seen that, but saying Dougie isn't good is ridiculous.  Sour grapes.

The Shields/McDermott comparison is interesting- never considered it before.  I think you're right, though.  Both guys just find a way to produce.

Or maybe it's just the sleeves.

I'll say I was one to say I was surprised Benny is still here.  Maybe they couldn't get a recruit to prove he needed his scholarship taken away.  I was a Benny fan last year until he played in the big 10.   In order for him to be really effective he needs to hit an open shot which he struggled with last year.  Very quick and reminds me of Cookie Miller, but Cookie could shoot outside better.  It's a shame he not a little taller.
