Tim Miles tourney team at the end of year 2 has chucks of this Hoiberg team in its stool

That team in December was nowhere near this team though. Remember Creighton got out to a 38-8 lead on us that year.

We're picking cherries, not corn here.

Would it be sacrilegious for me to say that over the last three games, against three top 10 opponents, this team has played as well as if not better than any Tim Miles team?

I wouldn’t dismiss that notion right off the bat, but two 4th places finishes with the leading scorer in the B1G is WAY better than this team. Plus it’s easy to forget how good players like Evan Taylor & Benny Parker were & Copeland might’ve been the best all around player we’ve had on Campus in 10 years. That being said, I don’t think this years team has found their ceiling yet.

Man, what a game and I am glad we drove out to watch that.  The big takeaway for me is that the Creighton game wasn't a fluke.  It didn't feel like a fluke at the time as we controlled that game from beginning to end; however, I needed to see something to back up the Creighton effort.  We got that and more.  We didn't control Purdue but it certainly didn't feel like we were an inferior team.  They have better players but our tenaciousness on defense was a great equalizer.  Keisei is gaining confidence and Wilcher's shot will undoubtedly come back.  Better days and more wins are ahead this year as long as we stay healthy!

It really feels like this Kansas State game is huge for this team this season.  It's not do or die by any means but a win really feels like it could propel this team forward with some serious momentum going into games against Queens and then two good but not great BIG teams in Iowa and MSU.

I'm definitely going to enjoy the ride this year as this is not anything like I expected at the beginning of the year!

IIRC, didn't CJ start off cold as ice last year as well?  Maybe he turns it on later again... if that's the case, we're going to need to get him a few games in September and October to get going next year.

Looked it up and made a graph on his cumulative 3pt% by game. Blue line is last year, Orange is so far this year.

He was pretty up and down until the Ohio State game last year on 1/2 (game 14). Then steadily climbed to finish at 41%.

So far this season, pretty up and down as well, and currently sitting at 34% for the year. Interestingly enough, he was at 33% this time last year after the Auburn game (game 11).

Here's hoping he settles down in conference play and gets back up to the 40% mark.

Notes from UNL

  • Nebraska played its first overtime game of the season and its first overtime contest since Jan. 2, 2022, when the Huskers lost to Ohio State.
  • Nebraska held Purdue to a season-low 1.03 points per possession. Purdue entered the game leading the nation in offensive efficiency.
  • Nebraska’s bench outscored Purdue’s bench 23-15. The Huskers’ 23 bench points came after Nebraska got just nine bench points in its previous two games combined.
  • The Huskers pulled down 44 rebounds against one of the top rebounding teams in the country. Nebraska is the first team to record 40 rebounds against Purdue this season, and entering today, the Boilermakers had allowed only 41 rebounds in their previous two games combined.
  • NU had a season-high 19 offensive rebounds, its highest total since recording 21 offensive boards at Illinois on Feb. 2, 2019.
  • Despite playing an extra five minutes, Nebraska had a season-low nine turnovers in the game.
  • NU limited Purdue to 39.7 shooting from the field, snapping the Boilermaker’s streak of eight consecutive games shooting 44 percent or better.
  • Nebraska had a 10-0 run in the second half, which tied for the longest run by a Purdue opponent this season.
  • Purdue’s 20 free throws were the most by a Husker opponent this season, as entering the game no Husker opponent had attempted more than 15 free throws in a game.
  • Keisei Tominaga scored 19 points off the bench to lead the Huskers in scoring for the team-high third game this season. Tominaga has scored in double figures off the bench seven times this season. Tominaga was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, marking his fifth game this season with at least three 3-pointers.
  • Derrick Walker posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Walker, who has scored in double figures in a career-best eight straight games, produced his third double-double in six games this season and sixth of his career. Walker was 7-of-13 from the field.
  • Emmanuel Bandoumel had a season-high four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, reaching double figures for the sixth time this season and the second game in a row.
  • Purdue’s Zach Edey was held to a season-low 11 points, snapping a streak of eight straight 20-point games.

Arizona is the best team I have seen this year.  I don’t think the 1976 Hoosiers have much to worry about an undefeated champion.  I cannot picture Purdue has the best team.

Larry Scirotto sucks!

That's all for now!

Ohio St/Rutgers

Nebraska/Purdue

Wisconsin/Iowa

All 3 terribly officiated games.

1 common piece...Larry Scirotto reffed all 3 games.

How the he!! does this clown still get to do games. You would think at some point other refs would say something but guess they figure his incompetence makes them look good.

Officials are human. Humans make mistakes. But if you repeatedly make them at your job, typically you’re asked to do something else. Yes they get ridiculed, but it isn’t a bad gig to work during a few months out of the year and bring in 125-300k annually. Yes, seasoned refs get $3500-$5000 per game. Many officials will go on the road and do 3-4 games per WEEK during the season. Yes they get yelled at but they get paid very well, so having high standards should be expected.

Off topic, but Shatel mentioned in an article that he didn't see a lot of beer being drank at the game the other day.  He also mentioned 14,000 people at the game.  That whole upper area of the arena was almost empty..and there were a number of empty seats. Also not sure what it's going to take them to get all the consessions open again. I get the ground floor not being open since people can't get to the court via the floor anymore, but I think the one stand to the left hall on the second floor has been opened twice. Not sure about the stands to the right.

Just some observations.

Which of those 3 refs was Larry Scirotto?   The bald guy or the one that made the call on CJ from the baseline at the end?

Made THE call.

To be fair, he hasn't just sucked the last three games.  His judgment and abilities have been a long term issue.  Think Angel Hernandez from MLB bad.
