If you were given the choice between starting Jamarques Lawrence at point for us this year or Rollie Worster, who would you choose?

I should have added: "Before you answer, be aware that Jamarques is currently averaging over 40% from 3 while Rollie is under 30%; also, Jamarques is currently dishing more assists per game and scoring more points per game while playing roughly the same number of minutes as Rollie. And Jamarques would have another year of eligibility."

I'm not saying I would answer differently than everyone else so far. I'm just thinking it might be a closer question.

If JL decided to stay (the coaches wanted him to), I think we still would've gone after a transfer point guard. Just like we did the previous offseason - it just didn't work out with Boogie Coleman and Ulis had to sit out.

Like Keisei and Essegian, JL puts a lot of pressure on opposing defenses the way he moves without the ball. He isn't the volume scorer those two are, but he's better in other areas. Always thought he's the type of guy who could be a really good role player on a great team. Reminded me of a Jay Wright guard.

We actually have an open scholarship so it's not like we'd have to lose someone to have retained Lawrence.

Very possible that JL is our 5th starter instead of Berke or Connor given his knowledge of our system plus his shooting ability.

If it comes down to who starts at PG it's Rollie because JL is a combo guard who can play point.

Let me know if anyone wants to change their answer.

I would have thought before the season the RW and AU would provide more. Bu when you asked on Dec 1, I didn’t answer even though I would have said JL at that time. He distributed the ball well enough for the most part last year, is a very good shooter, and like you said has 2 years of eligibility. JL is a quicker defender too.

RW and AU have been more inconsistent than I thought they would be, especially RW. I will say RW is a better rebounder.

JaMarcus had a good upside.

I looked at his statistics from this season and it appears he has been inconsistent.  That inconsistancy plagued him with us as well.  I also noted a few high turnover games.  It is difficult to overcome a six turnover game; but they did.

Bottom line, he chose (or perhaps it was a mutual decision) to leave Nebraska for greener pastures.   We needed to move on as well.  I will cheer for our current roster, by and through, my biased eyes.

It’s interesting. I actually think Rollie would’ve been better for last year’s team and JL better for this year’s team. Last season we had plenty of shooting/scoring, but could’ve used more length, strength and positional rebounding in the backcourt next to Keisei. This year we have plenty of those things, but could use another perimeter shooter/scorer. I’d still prefer to have both, but it is what it is.

To me, it certainly isn't hate, it is simply concern.

Right now when you have Rollie and Braxton in the game at the same time, neither needs to be covered on the perimeter.  As a result teams will sag to the middle and make it difficult to penetrate.  If we have a slow start, it certainly seems more pronounced.

We sorta had the same issue when Sam G ran the point.

That would make a cool song title. "Your Biased Eyes"! 🎸

I would agree that it’s more the stats he’s pitting up versus expectations.

Career 28-30% 3 point shooter is at 16% this year.

Averaging over 5 assists last two seasons and he is at 2.5 this season.

FG % is up and to% is relatively consistent.

Were still a better team this year with him than without him.

Almost 2 turnovers a game as well against not a ton of assists.  His shot looks ok, so hopefully they start dropping.  To compare to Griesel as kind of similar pg he shot 32% from 3 in his year here.

Regression to the mean works both ways, so that might be a source of optimism for y'all.

JL on his worst day is a better 3pt shooter than Rollie. If you're looking for a guy who can be a spot of 3pt shooter, it's JL and it's a no brainer. I think there is also a lot to be said for having experience in our system.  If you think that Rollie with his size and JL with his quickness are equal defenders, then the edge goes to JL because he had two years of working in a Loesner defense.

On the other hand, Rollie can get into the lane in a way that JL cannot through driving and/or booty ball.  His 2pt shooting percentage and ability to get to the line reflect the advantage there.  He's a better rebounder than JL.  It seems like he has better instincts at the point though maybe JL would have been there after a summer.

Seems like a wash from overall production and individual game matchups might dictate which one might have the advantage on a given night.

“Undisclosed injury” sounds like he’s not happy kinda similar to what happened with him here

This makes we wonder if the question instead should have been "who would you rather have Eli Rice or Gavin Griffiths?" Eli basically hasn't played at all for PSU this year, but seemed to have a nice upside during his one year in Lincoln. Whereas Gavin his been underwhelming (to say the least) for NU.

The basic premise of many of the comparisons on this thread should hinge on the fact that those who left did not want to play for NU (for any number of personal reasons) and those who are here (presumably) wanted to play for NU. A more interesting question for me is who is the most successful player to have transferred from NU. Cross and Horne are candidates, as is my personal favorite, Charlie Easley. However, my vote goes with Teddy Allen. The last I could find was that he was on the roster of a G league Rio Grande Valley Vipers team which also listed Jack McVeigh and Kevin Cross as teammates. Couldn't tell if that is up to date, though.

I think you guys are severely under rating Rollie’s quickness and impact on our team. I believe his shooting %’s will revert back to the mean and this won’t be a conversation.

I hope you’re right. I’ve been underwhelmed with the PG play so far this season.

GG hasn’t done much for NU but don’t forget his season last year for Rutgers. Maybe it’s just my memory of his game in Lincoln last season, but it seems like GG has proven more in the B1G than ER. And I sure hope he will in the future.

Rice would of had a better year last year than Griffiths if they received equal playing time, he just apparently didn’t want to come off the bench here so instead he’s not playing at all for Penn state.  Tough deal for him and he probably got some not so great advice in the transfer process
