Hey, in all seriousness, how could we ever be left out of the dance IF we were in the top four of the Big Ten?

If our nonconference SOS and/or conference scheduling was weaker than a #5/#6 Big Ten opponent and they're a game behind then it's not out of the realm of possibility. Seems very rare though.

Edit: I should probably caveat that I just don't see the committee only taking three teams from the Big Ten. So this statement is an assumption that a team like Maryland or Michigan could take that #4 NCAA tourney spot from us even if we finished #4 in the conference.

You can't tell me there isn't a damn team we can't beat the rest of this year.  That includes the conference tourney and the post season.  Let's get this done, keep the decision out of the committees hands, and prove we should be there.

Who the fu heck would have picked us to be 4th place in the league ten games into the conference slate? Mind blown ?

Especially looking at our schedule the first half of conference play versus the second half of conference play

Was going to ask the same question.  Wouldn't we have a really good record and enough wins that would put us in without all the other Mumbo Jumbo.

Say the committee decides they can only take 4 Big Ten teams. Could they leave DONU out and take Michigan instead if we beat them twice head-to-head? That 4-5 game in the Big Ten Tournament could carry some huge implications.

Michigan's double plays in conference with current Kenpom rankings are:

Purdue (3), Oho State (14), Maryland (38), Northwestern (84), Iowa (95)

Nebraska's are:

Penn State (57), Minnesota (88), Wisconsin (89), Illinois (109), Rutgers (129)

If that is the 4-5 game we might have to win it even if we are the 4 seed.  Michigan right now looks like they're in regardless.

I'm in the camp that if we get the 4 seed we should just make the Big Ten tourney championship game and lock things up. We win enough down the stretch to get the 4 seed then we still end up waiting around wondering and depending on what everyone else does. As some have mentioned, that 4/5 game would then be huge. Get there and lose that one and we're left hoping. Win that one we're pretty much good. Get to the 'ship and our bid is sealed win or lose.

Give me the double-bye every time.

Ab-so-lutely. We're not heading out to New York to make a "good showing". It's a Tournament, therefore you enter it in hopes of winning the damn thing...

NU and Michigan both have 8 games remaining. NU has 5 home games and 3 on the road. Michigan has 4/4. Here are their remaining schedules:

NU: Iowa, @ Wisc, @ Minn, Rut, Mary, @ Ill, IU, PSU

Mich: NW, Minn, @ NW, @ Wisc, Iowa, OSU, @ PSU, @ Mary

I give NU the edge here in terms of degree of difficulty, though I'm not sure I trust NU to take advantage of it.

Ohio St. has a tough finish. They could fall back to the pack, but if NU loses a game or two, they'll probably still finish behind the Buckeyes. If Maryland gets hot down the stretch, they could be in the conversation, too. I'd say PSU, too, but their schedule is bonkers. Indiana's about to take a hit, too.

I like it!  Let’s just win out and grab the dang 3 seed.

Win out at home & get a couple of road dubs & I think it's a decent opportunity to be a sparkling 13-5 in the B1G, which would have Nebrasketball winning a 4th place tiebreaker over Michigan in the process.

Oh yeah, I thought it was 4 & 4. So..... 13-5 would be good too. ;)

{edited other post to include 13-5, but I think 12-6 could also be 4th seed....}

Before we get ahead of ourselves, please note except for Penn St. our losses are to the top three teams.  Our wins are over teams lower in the conference, save Michigan.  I agree that we are capable of defeating all the remaining teams on the schedule, I also believe we can lose several if we cannot put together complete games.
