Andrew White Transfering

Recommended Posts

Andrew White leaving hurts short term, but should be good for us long term. That's about 30 min a game that will be filled by McVeigh (So), Roby (Fr), and Horne (Fr). This is also a team that will only have one senior and 7/10 players that will make up our rotation will be Fr. and So.

As the title of another thread states, THE SKY IS NOT FALLING.

But at what point do we stop making the developing players/long term argument? I feel like we've been playing for "next year" far too many times over the years.
Aren't we as nebraska fans a bit like the cub fans. In that next year we will win.

The main difference being that the Cubs have actually won at some point.

I hate myself.

I've read that if Miles has another bad year he very likely will get canned. Does anyone here have that same sentiment? Personally I don't unless they just play horrendous this year. For those that believe he should get the boot if the team has a bad year, how good would they have to be to change your mind?

More than anything else, it is going to depend on the fan base.  If they start becoming disinterested and (actual) attendance starts to wane later this year, then yes.  Let's just not go there to begin with.

It's also going to be a very important recruiting year (always is).  I'd like to see a couple of 4-star commitments sign in November.  That can take a little pressure off of this year's team.

I don't think Miles is on the hot seat at all. The roster is in good shape. Transfers are a gamble, but by and large they've been successful. BUT they don't bring stability. The last two recruiting classes will bring that.

I'm not as high as some on our chances next year without AWIII, but I do think that we'll have a good roster with experience the year after. Anything we get next year is a bonus, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not down on Miles at all and ignore the speculation about whatever supposed strife exists. It's all talk at this point.

NBA Scouts will find you if your Good Enough  (Typo above)

If your good enough the NBA scouts will find you anywhere in this world.  The NBA draft proves that theory with all the players selected from overseas and mid major schools.

Even players that were on teams that did not do well with Wins and Losses, if your good enough and show potential NBA teams what they are looking for in a player,  NBA will find you.

Most 5th year players will transfer for more playing time, so this is very unusual and will stand out to NBA scouts. Are you a team player to show us how you can make players around you better or you just out for #1 ??

After everything that has happened and how Andrew White has handled himself as a me first player, it may turn those NBA teams away,

If Shavon Shields wasn't even drafted or considered within 2 rounds.  I would say with Andrew White worrying more about his NBA status then being a leader and trying to win basketball games. I would say he has less than a 20% chance to make a NBA draft board next year.  Just ask Terran Petteway how hard it is.

I think he will probably get a sixth year, but if there is another losing season that would be 4 in 5 years, with the 1 year that wasn't was a 3 week very hot stretch that propelled us into the Tourney.  That body of work could get him fired, when you can't blame facilities, fan support, etc. anymore.  I personally think if there is another losing season his shtick will get old fast for a lot of fans.

he'll get a pass this year, but 17-18 will probably be the most crucial season for miles.

i'd also say that it'll be difficult to fire him if he keeps bringing in top 100 recruits.

I don't believe he's in danger of losing his job but he won't get a pass for another dismal year. And I agree on next year being a crucial year for him. Hopefully that means no more key departures.

I think this move hurts Andrew White's chances at an NBA draft selection more than it hurts Nebraska's NCAA tourney chance.

I would say AW3 is about a 5% chance of being drafted while the Huskers have a 15% chance of going to NCAA (and the 15% number is probably the same % chance I would have given the Huskers with White)

AW3 needs to go to a place like Nebraska and elevate that program to an NCAA tourney, if he goes to a Louisville (as an example, no knowledge saying that is where he is going), he will be a reserve and probably not get drafted

He is pretty unlikely to be a complete NBA player.  He simply doesn't have great lateral quickness.  I can certainly see how he can play in the NBA though.  It is as a one trick deadly 3 point shooter that will get nose dirty on the boards and will work to try to improve his defense.  Trying to showcase his handles a bunch would be a detriment, not a positive for him.  Us getting him a lot of looks from deep would have helped both him and us.   Frustrating situation.

Would you feel any better about him if he stopped making jokes and tweeting stuff during halftimes and such?

So on The Drive yesterday, Washut said that White wants to go to a team where he will serve MORE as a three-point specialist like he would in the NBA... A better team where he'd have a specific role, versus here where'd he'd be asked to do a lot more.

I ran into Gandolfo's in the middle of the segment, so I missed some of it, but that's the gist of what I heard.

If we have don't make the postseason this year or next year?  Unless we are bringing in great classes it will be tough to feel good about the projection of the program.  This year it's probably going to be tough to stay above .500 but next year, assuming no key departures we should compete for a NCAA appearance IMO.  BTW, he doesn't tweet at halftime.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a story about a helicopter dad who demanded that his kid should cover the opponent's best player. He's probably getting bad advice here about trying to prove that his perceived weaknesses aren't weaknesses instead of focusing on his strengths.

That would make a lot of sense, but think he could have done that here.  Anyway, I was under impression by some comments here, that he wanted to handle the ball more.

Miles said in OWH article that he is actively pursuing another addition who is eligible for next season. He would prefer a grad transfer so the schollie is open again for next season but will take anything he likes. TM is looking for athleticism and perimeter scoring. Seems like he is looking for a 1-3 player (doesn't mention anything about bigs).

Also he says the gaurd minutes are pretty much covered between Tai, Gill (makes me feel good about Gill hearing it from Miles), and Watson but knows we are thin so he wouldn't say no to adding another gaurd.

If the roster holds.... Which... Obviously... Well, ya know - '17-'18 is, in my opinion, one of the best Husker rosters assembled in my recent memory. Should be a good year to be Miles's "crucial season."

If the damn roster holds, that is.

So he wants to come off the bench only when his team struggles to hit shots and maybe get 10-15 minutes a game and less when his "team" is playing well. Good luck with that. He needs to go back to Kansas. He can go right back to his old role when he left. He should have talked to Coach Miles about benching him if he wants the true NBA experience.

Hey Mr. Fish, would you rather be a big fish in a small pond, or a small fish in a big pond.  Hmm, won't the big fish in the big pond feed on the small fish?  Or perhaps if you are a big fish in a small pound, you will be too confined.  Man, aren't there plus and minuses to any scenario you choose?

He's even said it himself.   Which is the crazy thing.  And I agree...his avenue to the league is his perimeter shooting...not handling the ball.

I have a question regarding these graduate transfer situations.  Are there rules regarding recruitment of potential grad transfers?  Can players line up opportunity before declaring it?  Can someone please brief me on how this works.  You have a prominent Cal player just bolt for Gonzaga etc.  Now White does it at the 11th hour.  What is the player allowed to do in terms of reaching out to schools prior to doing it, and what are schools allowed to do to try to talk players into transferring.  This whole graduate transfer thing is starting to smell bad to me.  It seems like it is going to beg people to take more BS classes to get graduate status after JR. year to keep this open.  I like it in its purest form, but it seems to be getting out of hand.
