Last year, we had 11 guys who averaged at least 30% from beyond the arc. That's right, 11. Right now, we only have 3 guys with at least 7 attempts who are shooting over 30% from 3 (granted, two of them are well into the 40s). But, after those 3, of all the guys with at least 7 attempts, nobody else is shooting better than 22.2% from beyond the arc. On six attempts, Andrew Morgan has hit two (33.3%) so I'm not counting him. But other than Morgan, the only three guys on the team shooting better than 22.2% from beyond the arc right now are Bryce, Connor and Juwan. That is shocking. Hawaii was daring Rollie to jack up a 3. Daring him. We'll leave you alone back there, dude, go ahead and take that shot. Nope, we're not gonna let you drive. But we'll leave you wide open to miss that 3-pointer. Him and Berke both. Chase Bryce, Connor and Juwan off the 3-point line and we might have trouble scoring.7 points -

Last year's team was going to be three heavy. You could see it a mile away because everyone could take 3s. This season would be a disaster is we shot them at the same rate because it's not built the same. We have posts and PGs that aren't threats from 3. We're stronger rebounding and generating turnovers but unfortunately have been sloppy with the ball. The slightly surprising upside is that we've generated FT attempts at a rate higher than any Fred Hoiberg team to date. There is a very good argument that production at the FT line is fickle. From my experience, the same can be said about making 3s. This is a different team and hopefully the outcome is that the matchups benefit us with success in the tourney4 points -

I’ve Been pretty critical of meah this year but man his impact was felt tonight as it was vs Indiana and vs that Blue instate school down the road. Brice and Juwan show out tonight against the home squad and home refs. They can't take away made shots, and that proved to be the difference for the Big Red in winning at Hawai'i. Great win by the Huskers. Now let's go win a Diamond Head Classic championship game on Christmas Day! GBR3 points -

Phenomenal defense for the win. Don’t really care how ugly it looked offensively. We kicked their ass by 12 in the second half because they couldn’t score. Hawaii had 5 assists and 15 TOs. 41% from 3 to their 25% 90% from FT to their 67% 38 points in the paint to their 26 10 assists to their 5 8 steals to their 4 4 blocks to their 1 12 TOs to their 15 Lunch pail, Nate Loesner win. Hawaii was about the ugliest D1 team I’ve ever seen. Learning to win in all situations is a very important skill, that’s why I don’t mind playing games like this. We are setting ourselves up to win some tough games we have no business in winning. Our team is a lot closer to Iowa football that Brazilian football (soccer). We will play a lot of ugly games and win a lot of ugly games. That is fine with me, just win the games. Huge opportunity on Christmas. Would be massive moving forward if we can win. The metrics might not care that much, but it will have a huge impact on our season if we can win.3 points -

No. Rollie's deal is that he's never been much better than a 30% 3pt shooter and he should only take those shots as needed. Sometimes it feels like he'll take one at the end of a game we are winning so it makes it slightly harder to profile him as a guy who you don't need to guard at the 3. Maybe it's the last couple of games moving the needle but the numbers offensively and defensively are significantly better when Worster is on the court2 points

Beating Hawaii is pretty fun. It about started like the last three games we played them. I remember following the 2004 NIT game on the yahoo sports stat tracker. Were there more fans at the 2006 game? Nice to have the lead at half. Absolutely shut down probably their best shooter (Greene) in the 2nd half. The defense of stifling. How often do you see a defense force two shot clock violations? Felt like we were in control but with six minutes left it was still a 6 point game. We have played a lot more one-on-one offense in this tournament. Early in the 2nd half it was pretty clear we needed to go through either Brice or Juwan. Great leadership and energy from those two. This tournament the reffing is letting the games flow so we certainly are getting some conditioning. I don't mind it. Big 10 reffing can be way worse. Playing for a championship is pretty cool. Doesn't happen that often.2 points -

I have been surprised with Rollie’s turnovers, but I can’t deny that his size has been an advantage that helped against Creighton and other teams with smaller guards. A true 6’5” 215 pound point guard isn’t something we’ve had often. Juwan hitting 3 threes last night was encouraging. GG doesn’t have the confidence right now. He’s a great shooter in practice and was one of the best over the summer. But he’s a liability defensively. And turns it over. I’m afraid he will be on the bench for a while2 points -

Michigan State is 300+ in 3-pt percentage and they didn’t have trouble scoring. We’re also due for some positive shooting regression from a couple guys, Worster and Berke. Also could create a couple more looks for Morgan since he’s capable and just isn’t taking a lot. I’m still in the camp that we’re better than last year. I don’t feel like we’re screwed if one or two guys are off like I did at times last season. We more diverse in how we can attack, it’s just how quick do we find what’s working each night.2 points -

Not sure whether we are better this year than last. Time will provide the clear answer. Last year we seemed more reliant on the perimeter game; this year we seem to enjoy scoring in the paint (when we are not missing bunnies). Last year we seemed to be a finesse team; this year we seem to be more physical. Last year we seemed to struggle at time gathering rebounds; this year we seem more consistent going after the ball. Last year we seemed to have many more defensive lapses; this year we seem to like our defensive identity. Yes our three point shooting is (at times) missing in action; but our shot selection seems solid and the form of the shooters appear solid. I like the odds that our over all percentage will improve as the season wears on. We shall see, I guess.2 points -

Nebraska might be down Berke and Ulis tonight. Hawai'i is a tough team that runs a Randy Bennett like defense. Thus they'll man up and run you off the 3pt line, forcing you to beat their post players one on one or else take mid-range shots. Nebraska can work in this environment and Hawai'i gives up a lot of points at the FT line. Offensively, the Rainbow Warriors are looking to bring everything into the paint. By default Nebraska is set up to stop this and it's really about how well they can guard without fouling as Hawai'i scores a ton of points at the FT line. Otherwise, it will be about preventing second chance points as Hawai'i's posts excel on the glass at both ends. It would be surprising to see Nebraska take Hawai'i out of this one quickly. Nebraska is the better team but if they get into the wrong side of a ref show in Hawaii they sure could drop this one. Prediction: Nebraska 76 - Hawai'i 68 View full article2 points
