  2. I hope they lose every game. If we're worth a damn we don't need Creighton to enhance our national presence.

Gavin seems like he is playing not to make a mistake so he doesn't get pulled right away. He is playing tight instead of not worrying about making a mistake. I think if he has one breakout game like Conner just had at Creighton, he will look like a new player and be able to contribute more this season.

    OT: A Sad Day

We're gonna try this again. The name isn't household, but the song is. Mike Pinera of Blues Image and Iron Butterfly fame has passed. He wrote and sang lead on Ride Captain Ride. He's performing here with Peter Rivera of Rare Earth, Jerry Corbetta of Sugarloaf and Dennis Noda of Cannibal and the Headhunters. Great tune! RIP!

  7. I'm not arguing. Two things can be true at once. I agree with you the staff very well could have said "man it would be great if we could get 15-20 minutes out of Meah guarding Kalkbrenner." And the staff may then also have said "But with how physical we're going to ask him to guard and with how many touches Kalkbrenner is going to get, it's highly likely he gets in foul trouble and doesn't make it to 15-20 minutes. But that's why we have Andrew and Berke." And to me that doesn't mean Meah didn't play well or didn't do his job for this game. He was out there to be an enforcer and muck it up and if fouls were called, so be it. And I only responded because you said his +/- was misleading. He was +3 in 3 games played on the season coming into Friday, which was the worst on the team. So +9 for him against Kalkbrenner and Creighton even in just his 11 minutes is pretty good for him. That's all I was saying. I still don't want him out there a whole lot. When I said he "easily had his best game as a Husker" it was quite a bit of sarcasm because of how bad I felt he's been leading up to this point, partly due to his own play and partly due to what we were asking him to do offensively. I apologize if that didn't come across. I was just trying to give him some semblance of a compliment while I could as I've been pretty hard on him so far. In my humble opinion, less is more with Meah. The fewer minutes he plays (10-15 max) and the fewer times he touches the ball offensively, the better the team we can be.

  8. I never would've thought in the off-season Gavin would be one of the first guys being eeked out of the rotation. His physical tools are a match made in heaven for Fred and our system, but he looks lost out there. Maybe Wednesday's game will be a "figure shit out" game for Gavin and they play him 25+ minutes.

  9. Absolutely. We know nothing about this team or the teams we've played so far, really. Creighton seems to me to have been vastly overrated based purely on reputation alone. These guys have a long ways to go before I'll even consider them a potential NIT team.

  10. Thinking about it, this might be the quickest a Husker hoops team has looked to be in mid-season form in maybe a decade or more?

  11. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of his at all, BUT that performance is about all we need from him: 10-15 minutes 6 rebounds 0 missed shots (if he gets a dunk opportunity, great. Otherwise don't be handling the ball or trying to score) 0 turnovers Solid, physical defense Took away the other team's big man

  12. I hate Creighton as much as the next guy, but I will never hate on Nick Bahe. Listened to all his stuff for years and he loves Fred Hoiberg and goes out of his way to compliment the staff and our program. He genuinely wants Nebraska to be good at basketball. Also he's said in the past Barry Collier never offered him a scholarship, so hard to be mad at a guy for not coming to Nebraska when Nebraska didn't want him.

  13. +/- at Creighton Gary +11 Meah +9 Hoiberg +9 Berke +8 Essegian +8 Ulis +5 Worster +4 Griffiths +4 Williams +1 Morgan +1 Jacobsen -5 Notable from this game: Gary was the best player on the court and it shows at +11. Meah easily had his best game as a Husker. Williams at +1 in an 11-point win is interesting. The Jacobsen at the 5 emergency lineup for 1 minute didn't go well. Season +/- (Team +59) Berke +53 Worster +40 Gary +37 Griffiths +34 Essegian +31 Hoiberg +25 Williams +24 Meah +12 Morgan +11 Ulis +11 Jacobsen +7 Grace +5 Burt +5

  14. Yeah, I took it as Greg passive aggressively blaming Rollie for the injury. He's often passive aggressive and smug in his press conferences, but he does it with a little smile so I guess it's hard for some people to see through that. Lost respect for him 11 years ago after the Gibbs Petteway scuffle. Obviously a dirty play by Gibbs, which was normal for him. Greg was asked about it later. He winked at the reporter and said, "Gibbs is my guy." No accountability.

  17. GG has also had a couple of very good games—one where I thought he was our best player. Both Fred (OC) and Nate (DC) have really detailed systems and very high expectations. There's definitely a huge learning curve for newbies.

Gavin Griffiths is another little surprise at his season and the CU game +/- and I think shows that you can't strictly go off of +/-. I still have hopes for him though that he'll find another level of gear and hustle.

  21. To me, Creighton and St. Mary's are both mid-seed NCAA teams with the chance to win a game or two in March. We'll know a lot more about both after this week. St. Mary's get's USC (5-1) and then either New Mexico or Arizona State (both of who are 5-1). Creighton gets San Diego St (2-1 lost by 13 to Zags), Texas A&M (4-1 lost to UCF game one of season) and then either Rutgers, Alabama, Houston, or Notre Dame. So stiff tests for them this week that should tell us a lot about the team we beat and almost beat.

  22. I went to high school at LSE at the same time as Nick and he also had zero interest in attending Nebraska. During Nick's junior year, Roy Williams actually drove-up to watch him practice one morning and discussed him walking-on at KU with the potential of earning a scholarship. Nebraska had signed Jake Muhleisen two years prior and had definitely reached-out through LSE Coach Jeff Smith, but there was no interest on Nick's part after Roy Williams put delusions of grandeur into his head.

  23. I don’t agree with that. Creighton might not be final four good like the last couple but they are a good team, that we man handled on their own court. I watched them beat up Purdue on the same floor. Losing Ashworth for an extended time will test for them though. Not saying you have to pencil anyone into the tourney but we’ve seen enough to know we can be a pretty good team if we keep improving. Nothing wrong with people thinking we are good enough to get votes. Enjoy the ride.

We are not very good looking for the lob. I’ve noticed a few times guys could have just thrown it up there for him but didn’t.

  25. I wouldn't say I won anything. Maybe I have low expectations based on his first three games. Also by 10-15 minutes I actually meant 8-10. I still prefer our team and style of play when he isn't on the court. This seems like an odd debate, of which the irony is not lost on me that I will now join . I think most everyone understands what Meah is at this point. He's a role player that currently starts. His job is to be a presence in the paint, bang with the other team's bigs, protect the rim and grab rebounds. He doesn't need to score and if he simply puts the thought in the other teams' head that it will be difficult to score inside the paint when he's in, then that's a big win and makes everyone else's defensive assignments far easier. What he did against Creighton was fantastic. If we get 10-15 minutes of that every game, then I think he will have fulfilled his role very well and will continue to be a key rotational piece.

  30. Greg also talked about all of the ways CU lost the game, not how the opponent just flat out beat them today. Fred doesn't pull this crap and always gives credit where credit is due.

I'm not a charter member of this board, but I'm damn close. There are people I've met here who I consider very good friends. Whether it's lunch, or get togethers before Husker games, just know I cherish the time I've spent with all of you. One of my favorites is someone I've never met in person. His name is Tom Plotts. When he started posting, it was all left leaning. Of course, my posts are right leaning. Guess what? We gave each other shit and laughed about it. It's too long ago so it can't be found, but Norm joked about how Husker basketball could bring left and right together. He was right. I sure miss Norm's posts.... I want to thank everyone who contributed to tcp's cause last year. It truly touched his heart! I've pm'd Tom a couple times in the last few months. He always responds immediately. No reply. I assumed the worst, so, I reached out to the man I knew who could get an answer, HB, and he came through with an impeccable source. Tom Plotts passed away on 5-28-24. For the last several years, Tom and I talked on a regular basis. He was so proud of the work he was doing for veterans in front of the Oklahoma legislature. When he got the chance to go to DC, which you all were part of, he was so happy. I wish we could have won a game in the tourney last year. Oh well. Husker basketball and music brought Tom and me together. Music is a bond... That's why I do the video thing. RIP, mon frere!

    Hey everybody

Not gunna lie-- Saying "I'm not coming back until the Huskers beat Creighton" could have led to an extended leave of absence had you done it any other year outside of this one (and two years ago). LOL
