Yikes. Why do you say the Houston players are thugs in sneakers? Shead is by all accounts one of the good guys in college basketball. Great player too. They have a tough, blue collar culture in place there. Duke typically has at least a few players who behave like entitled, whiny little brats on the court.

He comes off the bench like a bat outta hell. Plays fast, shoots with CJ confidence and can put a lot of pressure on the defense. He’s long and decently athletic. His shooting splits this year shouldn’t be a worry. He’s got a pure stroke. Was a bad fit with a Rutgers team that wanted to muck it up and keep games in the 50s. He’d flourish in a system like ours.

At least a few games left of the tournament that we can enjoy stress-free.

True. Remember, the NCAA Tourney replaced the NIT as the decider of the National Championship. It's all moot as Nebraska has a Sweet 16 appearance in their 2025 future.

The mid major as new juco is very real. There isn’t a huge adjustment to be made if you were the man on a mm team and move to p5. 1. You’ve already played a ton of p5 schools, probably held your own, and now have a chip on your shoulder/confidence. 2. You’ve developed way more skills on the court as you were getting tons of minutes at D1 speed as opposed to spot minutes at the P5. 3. There’s a lot of good fundamentals taught at the mm level because they have to in order to stay competitive. More team guys. So when Bama imports them, they have culture and humility when they arrive. JUCOs have easily suffered the most from transfers/NIL. Lastly, we can complain all we want about the way things are now, but this system benefits Nebraska so much it’s hard to fathom. I don’t want anything to change. We can get dudes here now.

We are in a significantly better place in terms of landing guys out of the transfer portal than we were last season. Hopefully that means we are able to land an even better group.

Even though Sears didn't have his best stuff out of the gate, he and Coach Childress eventually found something that was working and stuck with it. For him to get thru 7+ with the way he started is pretty amazing. Even though he's pitched better, he showed why he's the staff ace yesterday. Impressive. For us to face 1st and 3rd no outs, 2nd and 3rd no outs, bases loaded no outs, and bases loaded one out in 4 different innings and give up no runs in those spots is one of the craziest things I've ever seen. And we continued our ability to score runs with 2 outs. This team clearly has the clutch gene that we've been missing the past couple of years. Need to get the bats going today, as it's going to take some runs to get the sweep. Doubt our pitchers will be that fortunate with getting out of huge jams the next two days - law of averages has to catch up to us at some point. NW is pesky, so they're going to stress Christo today. Need him to stay in the strike zone consistently - limit the free passes - or, even better, let the offense go to work and get him a big lead. EDIT: Just how crazy was our ability to get out of jams on Friday? Boyd's World has compiled actual analysis of each team's chance of scoring at least 1 run in certain situations from 8000+ college games from 2023. 1st and 3rd, no outs - 85.9% 2nd and 3rd, no outs - 85.9% Loaded, no outs - 84.6% Loaded, 1 out - 63.7% We should've given up 4-6 runs or even more in those spots, instead we put up a 0. Crazy.

I actually wish it wasn't outlawed in the Majors. I think hitters need to go the other way. It is tougher to make it effective in college. Pitchers in college are just trying to throw strikes. They are not worried about pitching it to a place where the hitters are going to pull the ball. Hitters are trying to put the ball in play.

Mag was rumored to almost leave last offseason, so that one isn't that much of a shock. The main shock to me was Griffiths. One of the highest ranked guys in Rutgers history, and a style of game that gets better the older he gets. Playing with two super freshman will also open up looks for him. Cliff I don't really get, but he could be chasing money. Simpson is probably just getting recruited over.

They are all also taking advantage of a fifth season of playing due to the extra year of eligibility. The extra year of development makes a much bigger difference for some than for others.

Need more big's and length. After the NCAA tourney it would seem evident we need more length, if we want to keep up. Vey few teams in the sweet 16 don't have a couple of long 4's and 5's. The B1G is going to see more of it soon as the west coast teams come to town. it just is what it is.

I was listening to sports nightly and Jessica Coody said that she had talked to the wbb coaches. And they said that they are looking at adding some transfers.

I don't know how many of you new that Kennadi got hurt in highly rated Southwest's soccer win over Omaha Marian last week. Was carried off the field as she got hurt right at the end. She is their leading scorer. Never heard anymore.

The conversation over in recruiting about which guard spot Janowski is going to slot into helped me solidify how I feel about the portal this year. I thought I wanted someone who can get to the line, and someone who can defend at the basket. Now, I’m just hoping we are able to get guys we need to fill all the roles on the team, whether they’re the highest rated or not. If Fred and company see them fitting in a role, I want them. Come the first game, I don’t want our starting lineup to have anyone playing out of position because we NEED them to. Last off season we were really one, maybe one and a half deep, at the point guard spot. That one player was ruled ineligible around August (?) and we didn’t have a solid backup plan, and had Lawrence as our starting PG. He did as well as could be expected given the situation. But I don’t want him, or anyone else, in that situation this year. There will always be injuries, suspensions, and in the NIL age players could bolt at anytime. I hope through the portal this year, we’re able to build a roster that is robust to the inevitable player getting hurt, suspended, leaving etc. I think about how much it felt like our NCAA chances were gone when we thought Gary tore his Achilles. I don’t want a single incident like that feeling like we can’t overcome it. Kudos to the coaches for milking 40 minutes of PG play out of a few different players and still getting us to the dance. Let’s go build a roster now that can just work on getting better together, instead of having to learn how to play new positions.
