  2. “While his scoring numbers might not jump off the page, Bandoumel was a fan favorite at SMU for his high motor and relentless effort on defense” https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/husker-hoops-land-smu-transfer-guard-emmanuel-bandoumel I’m noticing a trend. Seems that we are signing lunch pail guys rather than uber talented studs. Interesting.

  3. I also like the additions are old and have played a lot of basketball. Not a pure talent thing like with an Edwards. And all 3 know how to win/come from winning programs.

  4. Yeah 3 and D guy. I do like that they're getting high motor guy that loves to play defense. "Relentless effort" on defense is nice to see. At the very least, a reasonable substitute for Trey.

Nebraska lands their first 2023 commit in 6'0" PG Chase Clemmons from Atlanta, Georgia. The Huskers had an early in on Clemmons who is the cousin of Trey and Bryce McGowens. View full article

I don't think it is. We may not have the proven scorer from a P5 school (Verge) or the 5* (Bryce) coming in...but top to bottom it is older and better.

  7. Fred biggest strength is finding a way to get he ball in the hoop, especially with unselfish players. So in some ways, I would suggest that he is the answer.

Not seeing a guy in that list who strikes me at this point as the kind of player who will want to call his own number all the time.

Hard to evaluate this team right now; hence my wait and see attitude. An argument can certainly be made that there is no visible reason to believe we will improve on last year's team/record...but...we could be a more free flowing offense, we could be better defensively, we could be more cohesive, we could have more adaptable coaching, we could have stronger leadership... Bottom line, we need a lot of things to go right! Dang it, where did I set down my rose-colored glasses???

That first group might be the worst shooting team in all of college BB. Ha. Inclined to go with the 2nd group as of now. Prediction-- next year's team is going to be almost the exact opposite of this past year's team. Next year's team is going to play with grit and fire and energy and hustle, but is going to struggle in one-on-one situations and struggle to put the ball in the hoop. Then, next year, people are going to say Fred is good at getting his players to play hard, but is clueless coaching offense (the exact opposite of this year). And at some point, people are going to realize that things like grit, hustle, energy, effort, etc., are 90% about the players and about 10% the coach, even tho they thought it was the other way around all of last year. It's an interesting group. I would still prefer he found a true stretch 4 who can also defend and rebound, but this is what we have now. A lot of solid players, but no stars. A little bit of mix-and-match roster. Fred is going to have to earn his money in finding ways to help this group put the ball in the hoop. Primary areas of concern: 1. Backup PG 2. No stretch PF 3. Lack of shooters 4. Rebounding? Possible Wildcard: Lawrence. Really like his game. Only question is whether he is strong enough and athletic enough to step in and play right away in the B1G. If he can, he could be a factor with his shooting and all-around game. Questionmark: Keita. Have to admit, just wasn't that impressed based on the film I watched. Hopefully he was still recovering from the foot injury (or whatever it was) and will be quicker and more explosive than his video.

That sucks. I was cautiously optimistic, she would contribute this year. Is there any sense of urgency to add replacement pieces to our roster (and staff)? We have some holes to fill.

  14. This is a very very good get imo. He’s a dog. Good 3pt shooter and over 82% from the line would be a welcome sight. He has handles too and should be able to help initiate the offense. Our defense should be night and day with the additions of Griesel, Lloyd, Keita, Gary, and now EB. We have a much better roster than last season. I’m not sure how that translates to wins, but this team would out work last year’s team and should also have no problem sharing the ball. I’m just barely on the side of optimistic now, but it sure looks like a hell of a class.

Another big and/or a 4 seems high priority. Bella left a hole. Markowski is a stud, but was a bit foul prone. I don't trust officials in this conference, would love to have more depth at her position. Mendelson could be great, but is unproven and will be part time. Hiring a stud recruiter to fill the coaching vacancy, could help.

Agree....that's how she may have seen it too. And the possibility of another big coming in (Mendelson) may be a factor. So the search may be on for another big...or a 4??? This revolving door never stops.

  22. Optimistic about football program, staff they brought seems top notch, but Raiola needs to bring it, if the oline is as embarrassing has it has been than literally none of it matters, he needs to get 5 studs that enjoy violence. I’m hoping for 8 wins, be happy with 6, I expect 4 or less and than the real fun will begin. Basketball program I have literally no idea, i didn’t like the firing of Miles, but i liked the idea of Hoiberg, just like I liked the idea of Frost, up- tempo ball in the big ten is a definite zig to the normal zag, but it just hasn’t worked and the churn of players prevents me from literally knowing anything about the program. I like the identity he’s built this off-season, but has @basketballjones and @Norm Petersonhas said if the style doesn’t change it might be the ugliest season yet and that’s saying something. If we can pull it together and even finish in the middle half of the big ten 6-8 range I’d be thrilled

IIRC CJ was emerging as the vocal leader of the team last year. If I had to guess I'd say he may evolve more into that role moving forward.

You're right. Complete opposite team. But I'll watch us go 0-30 if it's grit, hussle, effort vs. 10-22 with one on one, lazy hero ball. Wilhelm, in theory, answers a lot of our questions. But he's gotta show he's recovered and is committed to the aspects of the game that matter, not fake hussle plays and step back 3's. Agreed on your wildcards. I like our Freshman, have for a long time. And I really like what I have seen from Quaran McPherson in limited action and recruit tape. Agreed on Kieta. I'm really not sure what kind of player we're getting. Even if he is a world-beater - must JUCOs struggle in that first year regardless.

  25. He really seems to be as close of an apples-to-apples replacement for Trey as possible. I think we'll miss Trey's leadership, which is not a knock on Emmanuel; it's hard for anyone to transfer in and immediately take over as a leader. Emmanuel appears to maybe be a touch quicker/more athletic, and Trey a touch stronger. But aside from those minor differences, I think the role that they fill is nearly identical. Both have some explosive finishes at the rim in their highlight reels. Both are acceptable secondary ball handlers, but probably not someone you want logging lots of minutes at PG. Both keep the defense honest from behind the 3pt line. And both clearly build their game on a junkyard dog mentality. So with all of the transfers still available, Fred decided to fill his last scholarship on a Trey 2.0 rather than a true PG or a lead scorer/offensive focal point. maybe I'm reading too much into this, but that sure seems like an indication that style of play will be MUCH different this coming year.

Have to think with Bandoumel the roster might be set. Looks to be a defensive physical type team. Griesel/ McPherson Bandoumel/ Lloyd/ Tominaga Wilcher/ Dawson/ Lawrence Gary/ Briedenbach Walker/ Keita/ Kojenets

  30. “However, given that the Huskers have now added both a guard and a forward (Alabama transfer Juwan Gary), it’s now a formality that Trey McGowens and Lat Mayen will inevitably move on from the program.“ Damn… when Washut says things like this, it’s basically fact. Cause there’s no reason why he couldn’t have said Tominaga in there, but he didn’t.
