I trust the Illinois fans will enjoy the success of Glynn as much as we have appreciated the career of Gessell.

  5. Individuals: AWIII is an NBA player. I think he's a 3 and D guy, especially with his strength, toughness, attitude, and willingness to rebound. He's better than Petteway (not a dig--I love TP)--more efficient, better attitude, better rebounder. Shields was clutch today helping to end a couple of Illinois runs. He's playing much more under control and being super intelligent when he drives. He's so crafty when he's in the flow of the game. Morrow is a stud. I knew he'd find his way. He has way too much talent and work ethic not to be out there. The confidence of our team is high when he's on the court being a difference maker. HUGE block in transition. Watson is phenomenal. His physical gifts are obvious, but what stands out to me is how many plays he makes while taking care of the ball. He has a great assist:turnover, and the kid is clutch. Tai deserves to be a great player. He's worked his ass off for this school. He's the most improved defender I think I've ever seen at UNL. I'm thrilled for the kid. Benny, Jacobson, and McVeigh all did some good things in reserve roles, where they should be. Other thoughts: We were looking to push the whole game after every defensive rebound. With our lack of size and great speed, I'm truly surprised we didn't do this earlier in the season. We're 3-0 with this mentality. I liked the switch up in defensive pressure. Those subtleties help keep the other team's offense out of rhythm. Hopefully we keep doing this. We had pretty solid transition defense, which is one area where Miles should take a note or two from Doc. I thought they were really intent on getting back and matching up tonight, which was huge. Molinari has gotten a bad rap, in my opinion. Last season, we didn't have a single three point shooter on the roster. Think about how much of a difference AWIII makes just in that area alone. That has nothing to do with Molinari. If you want to critique Molinari, look no further than the individual defensive improvements of Tai, Watson, Morrow, McVeigh, and Jacobson. The on-ball defense of these guys is light years from where they started. That's technique and coaching. I see much less of a need to land a traditional 6'10" 250lb center if we're going to continue pushing the tempo like this. I would still love to have one, but I'm certainly not panicking as much if we continue to play fast and attack. With our lineup of Watson, Tai, White, Shields, and Morrow, we were easily more athletic than any lineup Illinois could put on the court. That's a testament to Miles' recruiting. Great win. Welcome back to the bubble outskirts, kids. I don't think we need to think of any game moving forward as a "miracle win" scenario. We're a decent team, minimum. We just need to continue playing well and we'll get some wins.

  7. I've been as concerned as anyone by Tai's lack of production since he arrived in Lincoln. But he's a great kid who has worked hard, plays great defense and now his offensive game is really coming around. I love how his penetration/inside game has developed through the course of this season and his 3 ball is beginning to drop. Here's a big shout out to Tai Webster!

  9. Okay after a month's hiatus, we're back. There hasn't been a whole lot of earth-shaking movements in the last month, but Iowa has shot right up to the top on the shoulders of their impressive wins against Michigan State. Nebraska is back into the double digits finally thanks to the winning streak over the last week. So, here they are. So, it appears to be B1G news that Illini basketball fans seem like Husker football fans. Spoiled by prior success, unappreciative of current struggle in a big boy league. smh

  11. I think going .500 in the B1G will get them into the NIT. Then I think getting 1-2 wins in the tourney puts them firmly on the NCAA bubble. But I think I'm getting way ahead of things here
    2 points
  12. Yep, the confidence from Tai's game is a HUGE deal for the rotation. Webster off of the bench is likely better than any bench player on the opposing squad so Tai becomes a part of a matchup nightmare for the opponent as of late. Good things come to those who persevere. Great for #0.

  22. My sense of NIT bubble (for a team with Nebraska's resume) is 19 wins. 11-7 league record with 0-1 record at Big Ten Tourney. (19-13) - Yes 10-8 league record with a 1-1 record at Big Ten Tourney. (19-14) - Probably 10-8 league record with 0-1 record at Big Ten Tourney. (18-14) - Doubt it. 9-9 league record with 1-1 record at Big Ten Tourney (18-15) - Really doubt it. 8-10 league record with 1-1 record at Big Ten Tourney (17-15) - No

  23. - Groce talking to his team about playing with an edge. We'll see if they play with it and if we match it. - Nunn not getting the start? Interesting... - Another quick start. I like that. - Not sure about that foul on AW on the 3. - Morrow doing a pretty good job of setting screens to free up Shields in traffic. Led to an open shot. - Watson doing a great job of creating his own shot. It's still a little flat, but it goes in. - That 3 by Tate for Illinois seemed to wake Illinois up. - Struggling to get White free early. - More exotic adjustments on defense. I like it. - You know Morrow's been waiting for a finish like that! That was strong! The Chicago boys playing well early! - Giving Illinois too many good looks on the perimeter. - McVeigh doing a good job of getting into the middle of the Illini defense. - Getting a decent number of offensive boards. - Illinois not sending anyone after offensive boards. - This is a big game for both teams. They're both playing like it. Pretty good game, actually. - Winning the battle in the paint, mostly on effort. - White not shooting well in the first half, but getting to the line. Finding ways to contribute. - Tai becoming the player we all hoped he'd be and it's beautiful. - 12 point lead at the under 4 time out. 35-23. - I echo Morris' praise of Parker's hustle. - Great finish to the half! Big to to go into the half up 9. Get the ball out of the break, too. - Not a great start to the 2nd. Turnover, foul by Shields. - Don't want to put ILL on the line much. - Illinois coming out with more intensity to start the half. Giving NU fits. - Threw a little trapping action at them, seemed to catch Illinois by surprise. - Watson's gonna be something of a rally killer, huh? Hits some big time shots. - Shields with a really touch stretch to start the half. - So, Watson's brother went to Illinois, he was a top 100 player from Chicago and Illinois didn't go after him? - NU hit some big shots to keep Illinois from going on big time run. - I like how NU responded after Illinois punched to start the half. Lead back up to 14. Illinois counters, down to 5... - Punch-counter punch. Punch-counter punch. Punch-counter punch. Punch-counter punch. - Benny Parker draws a pretty big offensive foul on Hill. - What a big find by Watson of White on the press break! They've had an answer for every run so far. - They're playing with a lot of confidence right now. - Illinois conceded the rebound on Hill's free throws. Interesting. - NU doing all the little things right. - Goodness, NU's really owned the paint, huh? - Glynn Watson, NBBS. Nothing But Big Shots. - Up 6. 1:40 left. Can they hold them at bay? - The free throws, from GW, though... - Why didn't the Illinois fans leave at the under 4 mark? - White's gotta hit those free throws... - When was the last time NU won 3 straight conference games by 10 or more? - Solid win for this program. Really tough one comes up next, but I'll remind you, NU has a winning streak vs. MSU.

    Nebraska and NIT

It's my sense that Nebraska isn't thinking N.I.T. with the 4 B1G games happening in the very near future. Check back after the next 4 are in the books. Enjoy the ride, Big Red Basketball, as 3 straight double-digit wins haven't been all that common, especially with 2 of the 3 on the road. GBR

Well... I checked in on the dumpster fire that is the Illinois board. 1. They don't give us much credit at all. We are still earning that respect as a team that is not just a cakewalk. They are more or less saying that losses to us should NEVER happen. 2. Most feel that it was ok that they passed on Ed. I am ok with that. They can have whoever else they took instead of him. 3. Most everyone agrees that Glynn was a huge miss for them. They can all see that he is and will be a special player in the years to come.

  32. Very early in the game when we (Jess) got her/our first points...(we were down about 8 or 10-0)...she didn't look at anybody...came from above the arc, and dribbled straight down the key and scored. It was like she's not going to take it anymore, and went right to the hoop...and made a statement....for herself and the team. .....cut the BS..... .....We're here to play.

  33. He's playing at his highest level of confidence since he's been here. After the Villanova game some of us were probably ready to give up on Tai, thinking he was never really going to be a significant contributor for us. I admit I was starting to think that. He could have packed it in after a rough couple of years, but it's finally coming together and I couldn't be happier for him, or more proud that he's wearing a Husker jersey.

  35. Nice win over a very physical team. Rutgers plays "city" ball and we don't have many players from Metropolitan areas. It will be a tough rematch in a couple of weeks at their place. I am impressed with how the team is beginning to forge an identity and get some toughness. Several missed bunnies were maddening but the execution to get those shots and the lack of turnovers was huge. Blackburn's follow shot might have been one of the big plays of the game though Romeo's 3's were the momentum changer. I might have been a little to hard on this group in some earlier postings but the team today should make Husker fans proud. Tied with a road men's victory...not a bad day for the Huskers in BB!

  36. Have to say I was very impressed with our defense today - did a nice of job of moving our feet, shutting down penetration and forcing them into a lot of jump shots. My biggest complaint until these past 3 games was a lack of noticeable improvement. The coaches have changed up the defense a bit (love the press wrinkle) & the players are responding. Not sure how many more we win, but if they keep getting better, I'll be happy.

  44. Another solid road win. I remember when people were saying this team might only win 4 or 5 conference games all season and now they have won three in a row. This win was definitely a more satisfying win the other two. But the game I really want to focus on is @ Michigan State on Wednesday. Huskers have won the last two against MSU. Obviously this will be the most challenging. My thoughts: - Watson got us going and hit a couple shots later in the game when Illinois was trying to make a run. He definitely played with a little extra today - If we can get Morrow to have these kind of games for most of the season we will do well. - After all the criticism Tai has received in his NU career (some of it deserved) it is so satisfying watching him this season - If you tell me Shavon is struggling and White doesn't get his first basket until the end of the first half, there is absolutely no way I think we are leading by 9 points on the road at halftime. - I thought McVeigh and Jacobsen played well for the most part today I missed most of the first half and saw all of the second half. I loved how we answered every Illinois run. It is exciting watching this team grow as individuals and a team. Just try to not get too high or too low. Hoping for a HUGE win on Wednesday. Go Big Red!!!

  46. This was a great win; because it is a road win, because it validates the exponential improvement we've seen, because it is a renewed recruiting ground for us, et al. This was a total team effort. I thought those that played, played well. I cannot think of any negative issues right now. That is great to write, and great to see. That said; Tai, AWIII, Glynn, Shavon and Ed were the five that really seemed to shine. But, Jack, Benny and Michael also played good supplemental roles. Dang nice to see and watch. Shoot, I cannot recall ever being behind other than perhaps once or twice at the beginning of the game.

  49. I'm ok with RB43... I'm just giving you guys the "Inside Baseball" story of a nickname... She likes Burns. I'm not sure why she dislikes being called RB. I think it sounds good. Last weekend, after the game, she commented... "The other day at practice Coach Yori even called me Burns... It was the first time." Coach usually calls her RB. Whatever... The team just needs to beat Rutgers. See you there.
