They are already planning for the next No-Sit Sunday vs Creighton
jaimes2000 and 3 others reacted to HB for a topic
I appreciate that sentiment. On the other hand, for our program, I think the Creighton game this year is HUGE. Arguably a win doesn't do that much for us, but a loss would be brutal. We absolutely need to win this game. First NU-CU game post-Doug, we have the more experienced team, we play in our crib. Time to assert ourselves in this state. A loss under the circumstances, and given recent history of the rivalry, could hurt the program momentum more than a loss against, say, a Cinci. I think the staff knows this. Kind of like Dr. Tom's old saying about "big games"--"they can become pretty big when you lose them".4 points -

This is a random person. Maybe one day we'll get there. To me, No Sit Sunday was about organizing the type of crowd it would take to will a team that would be an underdog at home. Will we be an underdog vs Creighton this year? Doubtful. Also does anyone realize how many Creighton fans will be standing and yelling during this game as well? No Scalp Sunday makes a heck of a lot more sense if you're going to organize something. Minimize the blue.3 points -

I don't really have a problem with "No Sit Sunday" being our thing. This is how traditions start. One game a year, it can be relative to each season, the entire crowd stands and goes bonkers the whole time. This could be our thing.2 points -
Don't know how I feel about this. I mean, it's a game we need but won't there be a conference game that's bigger, more important than the Bluebirds game? I think I would rather beat Crayton with a regulation crowd, not having to do anything special or over the top or making a big deal of it. And who's twitter feed is that? Is it the official department feed letting us know that's when it is? Or just a random person trying to make NoSit happen for that game? If so, is that really when the team and coaches want it?2 points

I don't think Creighton should ever be that game. Late-season conference game seems better suited for this kind of thing. Why? I think it should be whatever game is important for the program. If it's non-conference game vs. Creighton so be it. It's relative to each season. If we get Duke in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge some year, that could be it or it could be an early conference game when Michigan State comes to town. The only qualifier is that it should be a big game. For this team right now, Creighton would qualify, IMO. It may not down the road, but I think it could certainly be in the conversation this year if this is something they want to make a tradition. Creighton and Duke are nowhere near the same universe in this discussion. If Duke ever came to town and we had to promote crowd participation, then I'd question the brains of the entire fanbase.1 point

Let's be honest. They've owned us for awhile now. What's wrong with giving our only rival a raucous and difficult atmosphere to play in?If we have to plan something like this for our in-state rival, I question the rivalry. If they're a rival, we shouldn't have to put something together to be a raucous crowd; it should happen naturally.Couldn't you make that argument for every game, especially last year's Wisconsin game (given the circumstances)? Was last year's Wisconsin game against our in-state rival? Was last year's Wisconsin a non-conference game? Did last year's Wisconsin game have little to do with us making the NCAA tournament? I didn't have a problem with No-Sit Sunday last year, as that game was huge in terms of our program and where it was/is heading. When have we ever been able to say that about a game against Creighton? Not here to argue, but discuss. I think that the idea of a "no-sit" game is seen by some as some sort of gimmick. I see it in another way. Maybe it's from sitting in the library that was Devaney for so many years (especially in the post-Nee era), but I prefer an energized, geeked up crowd. A "no-sit" game promotes that. I also absolutely hate Creighton. Yes, we will have a more talented team. But we still have to do more than just show up to win that game. That brings me to my next point. Can we really afford a loss to Creighton this year? I'm not talking in terms of tourney chances, I'm talking about for the projection of the program. If we can't win the state of Nebraska, we have a LONG way to go. Lastly, it's a great showcase for recruiting. I shouldn't have to go into that (recruiting) any further.1 point -
Not a fraction as much as losing to UAB (and @Penn State to a lesser degree) did.1 point

If we were to have a #nosit day for a game in the non-con this year, I'd like to see us save it for an opponent that matters, like Cincinnati. That's a game potentially of two top 20 teams most likely to be on ESPN. Much better no sit game if you ask me.1 point -

Would you be disappointed if we didn't dance this year?
NeHoops reacted to Shuttlesworth for a topic
I respectfully disagree. I said all along, while we were making that run, that we were either good enough to dance or we weren't. And I said that I believed we were good enough. And if we were good enough, we would win the games we needed to win. And if we didn't win the games we needed to win in order to make the dance, then the conclusion would be that we simply weren't good enough. But you can go back and search. I said it then and I say it now. Luck had nothing to do with it. When people were posting the published odds from various websites predicting the likelihood that we would reach the dance, I said, basically, nonsense. When people said we'd have to be lucky, I said nonsense. We're either good enough or we're not. And I said I thought we were good enough. And we were. We will be no less good this coming season. In fact, we'll have added some pieces that will make us better. We must make the dance again this year. And we really ought to win a game when we get there. Anything less and, yes, I will be disappointed. Disappointed because we are good enough. Finally. The other thing we are not considering is that our schedule was manageable last year and down the stretch when we went on our run was pretty dang easy (aside from the MSU stunner). First off, nothing comes easy in this conference. Northwestern was just coming off a stretch of beating Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota--all on the road, prior to us winning in Evanston. Secondly, we started the conference season 0-4. Is an 0-4 start even fathomable with 5 returning starters from a team who finished 4th? Probably not. Do as you wish, but expectations should be no less than 9-10 conference wins. That will most likely put us in the tournament.1 point -

Why? What other major talents (or minor ones) were not better all through their early 20's than they were the year before? JBJ, Bird. Magic. MJ. Wilt, Dougie Howser, whoever...I typically expect improvement each year from an exceptional athlete until well past the expiration of their college eligibility, barring injury. I am not claiming that any of our crowd muscle into this elite company listed...merely using easy to recognize examples as illustrations... If you like instead insert: Brandon Ubel. Bo Spencer, Dylan Talley, Sek Henry, Lance Jeter, Mikki Moore....etc. better each year they were here. That is one of the beauties of college athletics...you get to see the blossoming production!1 point -
Agreed. Crowds are going to improve for the average game as we get better. However, while a better crowd needs to be expectation, you're not going to get the Wisconsin crowd for Random Non-Conference Game State. That's just the way it is and it only makes sense and needs to be the case that the Wisconsin crowd is better than the average crowd. NoSitSunday was started by the coaches and it was stated after last years Wisconsin game that they were going to try this once every year. This prompted discussion on why we shouldn't do this every game. As hard as you try, you won't replicate NoSit for every game, but what will happen is that it will make the average games crowd better. NoSit to me is for that one game that needs to special from an atmosphere standpoint to give the team a chance. I'm more trying to figure out if this is official or just some random fan trying to start this for the Creighton game. The coaches started this and the team/coaches should be setting this.1 point

This thread and the Petteway off season thread have added more anticipation for the season for me. Tai's added muscle should help him to finish better at the rim and hopefully he can have more confidence in his jump shot and perhaps even have a quicker release. For Petteway, I hope we see an improved jumper and better decision making. Looking forward to another great year at the PBA.1 point -

Would you be disappointed if we didn't dance this year? No. Making the dance is a privilege. There are so many variables that go into making the tournament. If we end the season without even having a chance at making the dance, then I would be disappointed. What are your expectations? Many sellout games. That's the one thing that the fans can control. Is it fair to expect to dance this year? No. See first answer.1 point -
