  1. why fix a good thing? does Alabama fix Roll Tide? or does KU fix rock chalk..Husker Power, is a much a great tradition as the tunnel walk, GO BIG RED chants. Plus its simple, easy, and the it breaks even for crowd support people can pick up quick, and it isnt to much of a hassle.

  4. I suppose it's about the overall goal. The only point of saying/doing anything during the other team's introduction is to disrupt it. The student section can do something off the wall and it will make a dent in the noise/process. If you want the entire stadium to get into it, which would be the only way to drown out a soundsystem, it needs to be something they're used to cheering.

  5. Agree on all of this. Husker Power would be the logical choice because the arena knows about it and has already participated in it. Start it immediately after the flag corps walks off after the National Anthem.

  6. I have never understood this logic. Just because a conference is good doesn't mean a certain number of teams are going to get in even if there are not qualified teams.

  8. What's wrong w/ having situational players? There's only 13 scholarship positions on a roster, and not everybody can play 20-30 minutes. If NU has 3 viable PG's on the team, all the better as Miles likes to run 2 PG's in a game at times.

I liked these jerseys from last year, but I think I may be in the minority.

  13. Not sure if everyone's heard or seen the story about Miles' sit down with Benny this summer. He basically told Benny, "Look, you're the #3 PG on this team. With you not being able to do much for us offensively, we're not going to have any minutes for you..." It would have been easy for Benny to swallow his pride and find another school, but he didn't. He took it at as a challenge and found other ways to help the team. The kid legitimately loves being here. Where most would've given up, he didn't. That's the type of kid that I want on this basketball team, regardless of role.

  17. I think the reason is you cant really sag off him because it creates open space on the floor. If you have scorers like Pitchford, Gallegos, and Petteway that can hit the 3 coming off a screen you can put Benny out there to create the open space and all you need is that screen and boom open shots. Last year you only had one consistent 3 point scorer so you could sag more but you cannot do that as much. Thats my take anyway.

  18. If you're talking quality of assistant (which can, and often today, DOES impact the quality of recruit), Miles also has something like twice the budget for salaries that Doc did, so there's that. In my diabolical mind, sometimes I wonder what would happen if we could find a time machine and transport Miles to the pre-practice facility Devaney or transport year-2 Doc to the arena. Time has a way of glossing over some faults while bringing others out, and there's a certain optimism that goes with newness. The saying that only time will tell is a cliche for a reason. I like Miles a lot. I also liked Doc a lot. But I think a lot of us were pretty pleased with the Year 2 version of Doc (20-12 record that year, with wins over a handful of ranked teams), just as much as we are with the Year 2 version of Miles, and as much as I'm hoping to see us project upward more, it's still a little too early to make any sweeping judgments yet.

Plus its simple, easy, and the it breaks even for crowd support people can pick up quick, and it isnt to much of a hassle. Plus the "older" crowd will join in I would think. That is probably true but in my opinion, that is some of the problem with NU "traditions" is that they are geared towards the older crowd. That's becuase there are more of them that come to games than the younger ones. That is kind of one of our "problems" im 25, i was with my 36 year old brother, and my 16, 11 year old nephews...Husker Power chant comes on they know what to do...just saying its a staple, it makes sense, it spans across all sports not just football.

  23. I have never understood this logic. Just because a conference is good doesn't mean a certain number of teams are going to get in even if there are not qualified teams. You're right. We could have a better conference record than Minnesota and they could get picked over us. You would want to root against Minnesota because they are a bubble team and the more bubble teams that falter means more open spots for us. Yes. Conference standings and our final position have little to do with making the tournament. Was it 1998 where we finished 4th in the Big 12 standings and got skipped over and the 2 teams below us got in? An Oklahoma team with Eduardo Najara', that we BEAT in Norman was taken instead of us, even though we had the same Conference record. Still chaps my a**

Gotta love what's happening with Nebrasketball these days! How a team finishes a season is always more important than what happens early-on. That's a good thing for Nebrasketball because of the youthful nature of our team--improvements as the season goes along are almost always greater for a young team than for a senior-laden team. It could still happen, as Tim Miles said, on prospects for getting to the bottom of league standings, especially if some crucial injuries were to occur. But you've gotta like our chances for performing well over the remainder of the season and for good results of some sort in the post–season--and for some excellent recruiting results to follow! In years past (even during the late Nee days), any optimism around this time of year is always dashed by realities that follow. Dare we say/hope/think/expect/believe/wish that this year might be different? My money is on an affirmative answer to that question!

  33. Doc had open practices, Coach Miles does not Coach Miles appears to leverage his assistants much more effectively and efficiently Coach Miles seems to make effective in-game adjustments...whereas Doc tended to be a bit more stubborn.

  37. I think message boards sometimes bring out the worst in people and their underground board is a bad example of that. In fairness, there are also some Nebraska boards that don't exactly reflect favorably on Husker fans either. I think this board is somewhat of an exception and I think it's because the people who post here are, for the most part, affable and easy going and don't want that kind of caustic environment. But we do have our moments over here, too.

But they do have 2 less bad losses and 2 more road wins than us. Those are difference makers when deciding if team A or team B gets in. We would get cut every time with our resume right now. Have to add another road win (or 2) and pick up another quality win.

  43. Marcus Perry. Bo Spencer. Honorable mention to Steve Harley and Sek Henry. Both coaches had guys who could score. I'd say it's more about Doc trying to be perfect and Miles trying to minimize mistakes. Brandon Richardson still probably looks over his shoulder if he misses a shot on his driveway. No. Sorry. Perry was a great shooter if he caught the ball in rhythm beyond the arc. He could nail threes at a pretty high rate. But he did NOT create his own offense. Spencer was close, but as someone else pointed out, he wasn't able to finish at the rim like Petteway and Petteway's numbers are all-around better than Spencer's. Petteway is hitting 37% from three and 45% overall. Spencer was 34% from three and 41% overall. Harley and Henry were nowhere near as good of shooters as Petteway. Nowhere near. Terran is one of those rare players who can score from anywhere. Last night, he shot (and made) a 3 off the dribble, he took it off the dribble and got to the rim, and he hit a mid-range fade-away jumper off the dribble. Sek and Steve simply could not do what Petteway does. Period.

  45. While I think Doc's teams play good defense, I still have not been convinced that some of his teams great defense was simply holding the ball for 33 seconds each trip.

  48. Once again, Tim Miles leads the way in identifying and pursuing and offering a talented player. It seems that, once Tim Miles shows interest in a player, others jump on board. Here is a recruiting strategy for a competing coach: wait for Tim Miles to identify a talent and then go after him. Or, if I'm a player and Coach Miles comes calling, I'd say, "Hallelujah!," and then sit back and await the interest from other coaches to come rolling in. Or, Coach Miles might consider showing interest in a less-than-talented player for the sole purpose of throwing other recruiters onto a dead-end recruiting trail.
