Not going to happen.  Security issues number one; but when the PBA opened, people were allowed to go down and the "fans" were leaving early and it caused major logistics issues.  I agree it takes awhile to exit; but the alternatives are even more nightmarish.

Right now people aren't allowed to go to floor level during games unless they show they have floor access. Just keep floor unaccessible until game is over. I'm 4 rows from the floor and used to leave that way. I feel for the old couple that sits row ahead and have to climb the steps to concourse.

That is true but for the most part was against very average competition.  Will be interesting the rotation now and Gavin will be used if we get in foul trouble.

We beat Creighton and UCLA in those first 14, as well as Oregon State and Indiana. Almost got St. Mary’s too. I’m feeling even better about it today.

We also destroyed North Florida in a game where Berke sat out, and we had great efficiency numbers on both sides. Obviously entirely different level of competition, but we managed. It was our highest scoring game of the season. His defensive presence and rebounding is what I'm mostly concerned about.

FWIW, Berke on/off numbers vs Top 100 competition

I think the eye test might support we're generally better on offense, worse on defense when he's on the court

Idk what they are but I hear every game that he has the second highest defensive metrics on the team?

So you guys are basically saying he has the YIPS?🤔

He’s got way more than the yips.   He’s way too weak right now to play in this league.   Gets completely displaced with the lightest of forearm placement.    Can’t guard anyone.  Is good vertically but not horizontally (which prevents him from playing small, and he sure as hell can’t live on the block).   Even if the confidence  level was higher, and the shot was pure, he's in the wrong league.   You gotta be physical to play the 4 in  the Big 10.

I might be very biased from watching Berke over the summer.  He's great being the guy who gets the rebound when one is just waiting there and that is a good thing to have because it tends to keep teams from smelling blood on the boards.  The thing I see is that when another stronger guy wants the rebound, Berke often isn't getting it.

Watch the cinematic recap. Mahaffey is 6'6" 200lbs. He's also a dog. He's the guy that ends up with this offensive board.

I feel we miss him more on offense where we can play 5 out and he's a threat to hit a 3

Just curious but can you say more specifically what were the "major logistics issues"?   People went out on at the floor level for the first several years (including me at times and members of my family all the time) and the only "issue" that I ever noticed was that people did not like the look of fans leaving right along the court before the game was over.    That was the only reason I have ever heard for shutting off the floor access to the lower bowl seats.   What other reasons are there?  Why would it be a security issue - that all happens at the building entrance which is at floor level?   Not trying to be a jerk - just honestly am curious about what these other "nightmarish" issues are that you reference.

It is a building that was well designed for games and concerts in terms of viewing - but very poorly designed in terms of ingress and egress.   The north entrance is potentially almost as big as the one on the south (doors are closer together but there are quite a few of them) like they thought people would be entering close to equally from both sides.  But in fact far more people come in from (and go out) the south side because that is where the Haymarket business are - and the bulk of the closer parking as well.

FWIW I am one that enters from the north most of the time and for awhile that was great because you always walked right in while there were lines at the south entrance.   But the middle of last year PBA decided that they would only staff 1 or 2 of the doors on the north entrance - so all the sudden you have big lines to get in there at times as well.    That sucks - but I think it is derived mostly be PBA cutting staffing for games.   FWIW it is very easy to leave on the north side - you just walk right out - while exiting the building on the south can now be a nightmare.   There are stair exits that allow people to go out doors other than the allowed entrances - but most people don't know about them so they don't get used.   If they made those exits more noticeable maybe by opening the doors or putting up a sign I think it would help alleviate the massive buildup that happens above the escalator when people try to leave.    It is those kind of issues exiting the building that do cause people to want to leave early.

As I final point to me original question - again because I usually go in and out on the north side I have to go up to the concourse anyway - so not existing at the floor is not a big deal to me personally.  But I am also aware of fans who stopped going to games because they could not go up and down that many stairs to get to their seats from that upper concourse.   That was not an issue when they were allowed to go out at floor level.

Patrons site lines were compromisedwihen people left early. Also, some fans leaving created security problems when they lingered and/or walked near the benches.  Heck, this year there was a security issue when a fan approached the visitors bench.

Folks, security is an inconvenience until it matters.  Bad shit happens if you are not prepared.

Some guys just clear space under the defensive board and he is one of them.  Last guy I saw do that was Venson.  Berke is not to that degree, but when he is under the defensive board, he is different than others - certainly different than Morgan or Meah.  He is long and thick when it comes to clearing space.  And I think that works for him when he is guarding on the perimeter.  I'm sure that is why Fred says his metrics on defense are best on the team.

I remember people saying the same thing about keisei!  At least this kid has some height.  I’d sure like to see him get some minutes and at least see how it looks.. I’m sure your probably right but dang id like to give him some minutes here and there.

Some foul trouble Thursday and we will see it, if you can’t match size with size you gotta try to space it out on the offensive side and out score it

I just hope if we’re in a spot where the coaches decide the team needs Gavin to get minutes, we get him in when we have some momentum instead of when we’re in a bad spot. The less pressure for those minutes the better. I’m sure the leash will be short.

Against Maryland at least, I’m expecting us to go with Ulis more and play small with good ball handlers against their pressure.

Thanks for the reply.   I sit in row one and don't remember being too bothered b the sight lines - but we are also at the far end so certainly might have been an issue on the side people were going out.   I also was just thinking about the side opposite the benches.    Frankly I am not really advocating for a return to the old policy.   I just wish they would be a little more flexible - like giving floor access to people with legitimate mobility issues after the game is over.

Ah, to be young and a quick healer.  If my ankle did that, at a minimum, I would be on crutches for weeks and I would likely opt to go the wheel chair route so that my wife and kids had to push me around.

Keep healing (quickly) Berke.

I don't know that quick healing has any correlation with being young when it comes to sprained ankles.

My first ankle sprain came after I tried to block a 5'3", 220 pound linebacker who threw me to the ground like a rag doll whereupon someone stepped on my foot and turned it almost 90 degrees.  (Yes, 5'3", 220, he was also their point guard in basketball, the toughest MFer I'd ever seen, if he'd been 6 foot tall he would be in the NFL hall of fame.)

So that hurt worse than anything I'd felt in my life up to that point.  My second sprained ankle came about two minutes later, because for some stupid reason I got up and kept playing.  The teams other linebacker tossed me to the ground like a rag doll and then someone fell on the same foot when it did turn 90 degrees.  I didn't learn my lesson because I kept playing until halftime; luckily it didn't happen again.  It was then swelled up for about the next two years.

Now, years later, I can step in a hole, fall to the ground and wrench an ankle just as bad, and will be walking around fine in a couple of minutes.  Apparently after you've sprained each one over a hundred times, that's what happens.

Your body also adjusts to the pain, at least that is what I think.

Both of my knees were bone on bone and my pain was really bad all the time, but through the years it just became part of my every day life.  But after getting my replacements and there is no pain at all ever, I then realized how bad it was before.
