royalfan
Lawrence was playing very well early on then got replaced by Hoiberg who was horrible most of the game. Should let him keep playing when he was going well. If we are going to get where we want it will include Lawrence. Hoiberg brought nothing until a couple threes in overtime to give us a punchers chance. HuscurAdam, thrasher31 and HuskerBB

Lawrence has struggled a lot of late, so I understand going with hoiberg early and keeping Lawrence on a short leash. He finally hit a groove on some junk point plays and some pretty passes. Need him to convert on at least one of his 5 3 balls though. I do agree though in regards to getting where we need to go. Lawrence has to be better for us to get where we need to. I see good things from him, but it's few and far in-between bad or mediocre play. huskerkid21 and Faux Mike Peltz
jimmykc
Strange, we haven't heard anything about Gary's injury yet. An Achilles tear is a pretty straightforward diagnosis to make, so it may turn out to be good news.

huskerkid21
well I finally got over the sadness of it all and rewatched OT since I had somewhere to be wed night and missed it... holy sh#t was the officiating horrible. dont know how many bad fouls they called on us and how many missed calls there were for them but it was enough to piss me off all over again. specifically both of the and 1's rutgers post player got (MAYBE one of them was actually an And1) after either going over the back or just forcing/pushing our guy out of the way. then throw in kick balls not called and the shove in the back of BWill for them to get another OReb and foul call. I mean im just rambling at this point but man that was tough to watch. kind of glad I missed it live. oh yeah and the defender didn't give keisei room to land on his last second 3 but hey that one wasn't as blatant I suppose. Hate complaining about refs cause its annoying but damn seemed like they wanted rutgers to win that one. On the other hand, glad our guys continued to fight and shoutout to Sammy H on those clutch 3's after a not so great game by him. jimmykc
Maybe the refs were influenced by Pickel's technical, since it was his first of the year. Many coaches seem to think that technique works, although we all know our Big Ten crews suck because of incompetence rather than bias. Unfortunately, letting them back in the game created more crowd noise. The more crowd noise, the more refs could be influenced. Not saying all refs are influenced by crowd noise and not saying it works 100% of the time. However, I’m not saying crowds booing, yelling, or going crazy in a close game doesn’t EVER influence either. Silverbacked1

throwback
The refs allowed it to become a brawl on the boards, but we didn't rise to RU's level of intensity and physicality. We've got a lot of veteran players - we have to understand how the game is being called and adjust. Of course, losing our 'dawg' was a huge contributing factor as well. I think we really needed our big guys to hit 3s like we did vs PU - pull the shot blocker away from the rim more often and open up driving lanes, especially when the momentum started to flip late in the 1st H and 2nd H. Our big guys just didn't have it from deep on Wednesday, and I think we played tentatively offensively as a result because we didn't think we could get to the rim and draw fouls. It felt like we settled for jumpers on offense repeatedly over the final 8+ minutes of regulation. huskerkid21 and thrasher31

I think they were just a bunch of pf*cking crooks. It's easy to start playing like sh*t when the officials let your opponents play hockey while they force you to you play tiddlywinks. Yes, Nebraska should have won anyway, but the pf*cking game was pf*cking pfixed. If we ever try to field a team of goons like this Rutgers squad and play that style, we'd have 12 guys foul out every night. And after that, the final foul call in regulation with roughly 12 seconds left on was phantom. And based on the norms for that situation in a tie game, it was non-existent. We never should have been in that situation, but that was a grotesque call, totally inconsistent with how the rest of the game was called. hskr4life
Honestly, I think the way Juwan reacted (thinking he was probably done for the year) had us dang near in tears too and probably thinking the worst. If he just hobbles to the bench and then to the locker room, I’m not sure we all think the worst in that situation. cornfed24-7

Pumped to go to my first game this season tomorrow I realize we’re Husker fans here, but if your report is mostly accurate, this is a really big deal and absolutely stinks. I didn’t get to see the game. I’d love to know all the inner workings of being a major college b-ball ref. Is it really this shameful lame crap that we all think it is ? Or do these guys take it super seriously and really work at their craft ? No doubt it is an extremely difficult task. How’s the grading work and does it make a difference ? I’d love to hear Hoiberg ( and other coaches) give his take honestly and freely on his overall perspective on the state of reffing. I suppose we’ve covered all this over the years to one degree or another…
hskr4life
Over the past four games or so, I have perused the other teams game threads on their boards. If there is one thing that is constant from one board to another (including ours), it's that every team believes that they are getting hosed by the referees, that the other team is getting all of the calls, etc. So we're not the only ones and I think part of it is just fans being fans. Every fan base thinks that a lot of calls that go against them are bad calls. Bugeaters1, Cornbread21, Chuck Taylor and 2 others
brfrad
No one yells at the refs more than me. I think they lost control of the game. They let Rutgers get away with beating up on us. I think part of the reason fans (myself included) get upset is the vantage point for the fans. When we are in the stands or watching on TV, we see Keisei getting held nearly every time he comes off a screen. Something that might not be detected on the floor by the refs. I think they try to be great at their job (can't believe I just said that), but are human and can only see what they see. Chuck Taylor
OK, I'm going to admit it. I've reffed games, although just junior high level. You can't see everything, and you learn to call games a certain way. For example, a defender reaching across to swat at a ball often will get called for a foul. The ref can't see if there's contact or not, but players aren't supposed to "reach" so they get called. Same thing with post defenders swatting down on the ball. They's supposed to be vertical. So it always get me when somebody says, "He got all ball!" Well, maybe he did and maybe he didn't, but that's the call. Same thing for "over the back," which often is somebody outjumping from behind against an opponent to didn't block out. If you don't block out, 9.9 times out of 10, you don't get the call. Dozens of other examples. The refs can't see everything, but they learn to call the game a certain way. Many are incompetent, but I've never known a ref who was "biased." However, I know plenty of fans who are. hhcmatt and Cazzie22 1

You learn to be more consistent and understand what your partners are doing/seeing. My biggest complaint remains consistency. thrasher31

IMO that goes beyond incompetence to something else. roscoe
