TourneyBound Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Wednesdays game just became very important. Minnesota is decent and it will be our first true road game of year. We better be ready!! We need to be tougher and play more as a team then we did today! BjoeHusker, HuscurAdam, Cazzie22 and 1 other 4 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Just finished watching my recording as I left to watch “Killers of the Flower Moon” which turned out to be far more entertaining. Creighton was better in every phase of the game, passing, cutting, defending, rebounding and shooting. Even their effort was better and that is unacceptable. I clearly believed we would win the game and I was clearly wrong. We need to flush this game and hope for better days ahead. Quote

Yep, it was very disappointing and disheartening to see a complete reversal of last season's matchup. Maybe a little fire will light under them for a roadie at the Gophs. Cazzie22 1 Quote

When Kelly Pfeiffer is 2nd best official on the floor that's bad news. Got our turd out of the way and now time to regroup and beat Minnesota. Anything that involves "Tied for largest losing margin in the series" warrants a bit of reaction. Cazzie22 and jason2486 2 Quote
Faux Mike Peltz Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Pissed. Embarrassed. Disappointed. Outside of Keisei and at times Gary, it really looked like the lights were WAY too bright for our guys Thought Brice came out tentative. Is he at 6-7 really our best option to jump the opening tip?? Thought Allick and Mast showed just how different 6-8 and 6-10 are compared to a legit 7-0. Our defensive scout/plan was crazy crazy bad. Collapsing on drives and leaving wide open shooters??? Sheesh. All is ok if we bounce back and at least split the next two. cornfed24-7 and Ron Mexico 2 Quote

nuhusker7 Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Bummer. But it’s just one game, to a potential top ten team. Nothing about our season changes because of this one. Quote

I don’t think we will play a better shooting team again this year so not as worried about it but coming into this game it was a concern and wondered if we would play differently. Guess not! Last year they missed. This year they didn’t! HuscurAdam 1 Quote
hhcscott Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 I did not know all of our players were statistics majors, but the UNWAVERING faith in regression to the mean demonstrated by chucking evermore threes despite missing CONSTANTLY is amazing. Cazzie22, cornfed24-7 and hhctony 3 Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Tough matchup. If we hit our normal shooting percentage from three we probably lose by about 5. Sometimes that's the difference--they hit shots and we didn't. Their ball movement was an absolute clinic and a wakeup call to what defensive urgency actually requires. Take the asswhooping from a better team and learn from it. Rienk wasn't his normal self at all tonight, and we needed him to put in a double double. Juwan only getting 1 rebound in 24 minutes is not like him. I don't know. It just looked to me like we got worn out by a couple of NBA players. A true matchup zone might have made more sense after the lefty made his 6th three in the first half. We don't have any lateral quickness outside of JL and SH, but we certainly have length. I wouldn't be surprised to see a little more zone wrinkled in this season. aphilso1, throwback and Ron Mexico 3 Quote

HuscurAdam Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Very disappointed in the game plan and effort. Add in atrocious reffing, which made things even worse and affected our momentum early when the game was still competitive, and you have the perfect recipe for a blowout. Fred always said the guys will always give great effort, but in the last 10-12 minutes we seemed to quit and CU kept playing. That is what ballooned their lead from 20 to 30. I did not understand the game plan at all defensively. I get that our guys are drilled in a system, and as much as possible we want to “do what we do” and force the other team to adjust, but it didn’t take a genius to figure out what CU wants to do is exactly what our system gives up, especially with the personnel we have running it this year. I can’t believe there was no plan to adjust once CU started hitting open 3s. Just inexplicable! All that said, the thing I was MOST disappointed with was Trev Alberts and the athletic administration allowing students in BLUE to occupy the entire front row in the baseline student section for the second consecutive year (at home). It is an embarrassing look for the program and should have been easy to anticipate and prevent. If you didn’t want to simply tell them to move, then you could have blocked off the first couple of rows and directed students that actually support their school to those seats. Instead, CU gets a boost because the students they can see from their bench are blue front and center. It was disgusting and an absolute FAILURE by Alberts and his team to allow something I have never seen at another program to happen for a second time. hskr4life Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Woke up this morning surprisingly feeling ok. We got out butts kicked yesterday. We let the moment get to us… but I don’t think our 7-0 start was a fluke. Most Power 5 teams would have been 7-0 with our schedule. That’s true. But Nebraska isn’t one of those most and in years past we wouldn’t have been. Most Power 5 teams have danced and won when they’ve gotten there. Learn from it, don’t let CU beat us twice, and let’s wash our hands of this one. I’m already over it. Go Big Red! We’ve got to beat Minny. Chuck Taylor 1 Quote

basketballjones Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 I'm in this weird place where I'm pretty down about that loss, but also somewhat at peace with it? I mean what can you say - we didn't hit shots, they did, and they benefited from the majority of the calls (especially the debacle at the end of the half). I don't feel like there's some large, philosophical, "program evaluation," needed to be had here. You only do that if this loss continues to impact the next few games. Need to bounce back. Swan88 Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Saw about 5 minutes of the the game in second half--that's all. Observation: Allick is not a threat to score, so they ignore him beyond layup/dunk range and use his defender to assist elsewhere--where that assistance can have a significant effect. basketballjones 1 Quote

hhcmatt Posted December 4, 2023 Author Report Posted December 4, 2023 Notes from UNL Nebraska Postgame Notes Nebraska tied a season high with seven steals in the game. The Huskers also had seven steals against Florida A&M. Juwan Gary had a season-high three steals in the game. Keisei Tominaga led Nebraska with 20 points, his second 20-point game of the season and 12th of his career. Tominaga was the only Husker to score in double figures. Before today, Nebraska had placed at least three players in double figures in every game this season. Nebraska sees its 12-game home win streak against non-conference foes come to an end. NU was held to a season-low 60 points, as its previous low was 64 against Rider on Nov. 13. The Huskers went just 2-of-22 from 3-point range, as NU entered the leading the Big Ten with 9.6 3-pointers per game. Nebraska committed just eight turnovers, the fourth straight game with less than 10 turnovers. Quote
Handy Johnson Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 We have a very REAL opportunity to start 2-0 in the B1G. We can’t let that slide by because we’re feeling sorry for ourselves or questioning the process. Quote
