My head is spinning. This off-season is getting wild.

Recommended Posts

1. Thought we did pretty well in the transfer portal overall but, honestly, was never blown away by Ulis. Check my post history.

2. Holy crap, the Ulis news. 🤯

3. Wait, that walk-on guard from Ashland is starting at center and closing the game out at point? And scoring in double figures in two straight games? Da fuq? 🤯

4. Aw shi are you seeing what true freshman Eli Rice is doing? Holy smokes. 🤯

5. Paul Mulcahy possibly back on the market, hmm? 🤯 You don't say. 🤔

6. Just so happens, as of about today, we might have an open spot at just his position. 🤔

7. Might not be a bad idea for Fred to fly home from Spain a little early. Y'know, just in case someone who used to play for Rutgers wants to reach out. 🤨

Soooo @basketballjones you mentioned the other day about how much you like this team.

Interesting turns of events here, though. Ulis possibly gone changes some things. But it appears Rice and certainly Cale Jacobsen are way better prospects than we had any reason to hope they'd be.

And, now, some interesting potential news about Paul Mulcahy needing another landing spot.

Let's say we land him. Now what are your thoughts? Let's say we don't land him. What are  your thoughts?

Is there even a point of bringing up the Paul Mulcahy stuff? He already transferred. He's not going to get a waiver to transfer and play somewhere else immediately just because he regrets a decision he made for NIL money.

I just really never cared much about Ulis. Figured he was just a body. Hurts us defensively and just as a general ball handler/attacker.

OK, so Ulis maybe not a huge loss. More than offset, then, by what we're potentially seeing out of Rice and Jacobsen who are kind of unexpectedly good from the numbers we're seeing. Agreed?

It's more speculation than anything valid. With him being a grad transfer though, he could just leave and be fine. It's happened a few times to a few different players this summer. I'm keeping a minor eye on it at minimum, but need to pay attention to guys who are actually in the portal

That dude from Ball State would be nice but he's more of a secondary ball handler than a PG.

That's just a first. There will be a few others entering here soon (no knowledge in who). Last group of summer classes are wrapping up, so anyone graduating after those can portal out and find a home. Having one scholly available will be important for this. No idea on quality of guys available though

Hey who knows?

Not in love with Cale’s 8 turnovers today! Praying euro trash assign turnovers in strange way 🙏🏻

My research says Ulis committed May 1st. Iowa was notified of the gambling investigation on May 2nd. Seems like that would be obligated to tell us before he enrolls? Hardly seems fair we get saddled with an ineligible player and the school responsible benefits from it.

While I agree it sucks, we’ve seen the precedent that the penalty follows the player. Just like it did with Walker and his issues at Tennessee.

While I was in the camp that could easily see paths for Jacobsen to help us, being a smart, strong and competitive guy, that I believe can defend at this level, I think we still need to temper expectations.  I don't think we will be in a good place if we need him playing big minutes in this redshirt freshman year operating the point.

So, sounds like Mulcahy was sending out feelers our direction and we screwed up, fumbled a bit. And that might be because we were out of the country and not in a position to quickly react.

If you had the chance to pick between Mulcahy and Jarron Coleman, who would you choose?

for this roster? mulcahy, but i don’t think there’d end up being a huge difference in the teams overall performance with either of them at the helm

Not sure Mulcahy was real. He might have been using us as leverage for NIL or something. Seems if he was serious he’d give it a few days since we were over seas

Edit, if we did the choosing like Norm suggests that’s different

Well considering Mulcahy is an actual PG/CG...Mulcahy.
