Keisei Tominaga Petitioning for another year

 

Heard from someone in the student service/housing that Keisei/University are petitioning for another year due to a hardship during his first year at JUCO surrounding the language barriers. Apparently there is a precedent from years ago involving an ice hockey player with a similar situation.

Keisei still not sure on what he wants to do it, but wants to keep the options open.

 

Color me skeptical. Extremely skeptical. That one year of language barrier would also be the covid year, which didn't count anyway. He's played 5 years of college basketball. No injuries. No partial seasons. He's going to move on.

The covid year was his second year, otherwise all these points are vaild.

It's fun to talk about a return of KT30, but I highly doubt that it happens. In fact, NU needs to assume he's not there... and somehow find a way to make room if he suddenly becomes a 6th super-duper senior. I wouldn't hate it, but I ain't losin' sleep over it occurring. Man, what a concept: Language as an obstacle. It's not the worst argument, especially at a remote JUCO with Billy 'Clyde' Gillespie as his coach, who should elicit empathy from the wonks for the kid already.... dare to dream. lol

I'd prefer he move on.  He's been an amazing player to watch, but he could probably make millions over in Japan...or do pretty well for himself over here.  Husker Nation needs to move on as well.  Delaying the inevitable won't do anyone any good.

I mean I'm pretty sure everyone believes this happening is winning the Powerball odds, but if it could happen and PREFERRING he moves on is crazy talk.

That's where I'm at. I loved that kid. If he could somehow find a loophole to continue hoopin', you know that statue won't build itself....

Not sure “I’d prefer he move on” is the right phrase you’re looking for here.  If he has a chance and wants to explore it by all means he should.  No one is planning on him being here next year.  However, preferring he not be here is wild.

And my Keisei jersey was delayed and didn't make it in time for the A&M game. Want to be able to bust it out for a tournament game with Keisei playing

I go back to my post which was the genesis of this current discussion.  I have no clue as to the accuracy of the information.   It came to me, and I simply shared it with all my besties.  The chances are remote at best; but the message was that he wanted to keep any and all options open.  That seems like exceptional planning on his part.

You're getting piled on here for this take but I, for one, don't think you're being unreasonable.  We had some great experiences with Keisei on the floor, but folks tend to just remember the good times.  It was not that long ago that many of the people piling on were saying "if Keisei sees any significant playing time outside of mop up duty, we're in BIG trouble".

 

I don't think you're saying you don't want him to come back if it's an option and he's open to it, but rather that he (and us as a fan base) would probably benefit from moving on to the next chapter.

 

It happens time and time again, we see a kid mature and develop into a really nice player for us and then when they leave we all bemoan how much we're gonna miss him.  Well, yeah, that's how college sports works.  Can't keep everybody around forever.  Best to move on and find that next best player.

 

Remember how people were saying we were gonna be screwed this year because DWalk finished his eligibility?  Yet we ended up with one of the better seasons in recent memory.  I have faith that we can continue to move this train along without Keisei, and it seems that so do you.  Cheers!

Here's my guy for this year:  Allick improved immensely as the year went on.  Would be nice to have one more year.

Preferring he move on regardless how slim the chances he could stay and what you wrote aren't the same. But I give @Nighthawkthen benefit of the doubt that's not what he meant. It won't happen, but if you COULD have Keisei another year you do that and you don't even have to waste brain cells thinking about it. As for the people saying we'd be in trouble if he got meaningful minutes they were wrong. What they thought means nothing.

While I would never say no to Keisei coming back for some reason, I'm kind of also excited to see Nick Janowski because I think he will play good minutes for us next year. He shot 44% from 3 in his HS career and scored more points in HS than Tyler Herro and Matt Thomas...while he may not provide the "wow" plays Keisei did, I also do not find it impossible that he can't score 7-9 ppg as a freshman, shoot better than 37.6 % (Keisei's average this year) from 3, and play a tad better defense. I think this kid will be legit when it's all said and done.

Interesting how we seem to have so many players that come in as somewhat marginal guys and come out with us saying "man I'm gonna miss that guy".  Says a lot about the development abilities of our coaching staff.

 

Makes me excited for our future thinking about that.

I’m not a huge fan of his……but moving on when you already have at least 4 spots open would seem foolish.  
I think he’s very replaceable.   But you don’t tell him no if it’s an option.
