  1. Also, I want to thank Alexis Markowski for all the work she put into her game the past 4 years. She really maxed out her talent & abilities and hit her ceiling as a basketball player! She represented Nebraska so well on and off the court

  2. too bad that two of our best players go out with plays they wish they had back. And before those plays, there were two more - AM having a rebound firmly between her hands before having it swiped away and BP's bucket that was out of her hands a quarter of a second too late. Turnovers, having too little ball movement on offense, and giving up way too many rebounds spelled our doom. I hope that all the underclassmen stay around next year.

  3. We just made too many turnovers. The charge on Prince has rarely been called as the offensive players seems to get the majority of the calls. We really battled but couldn’t make enough plays.

  4. A good season overall. At least we made it to the tournament. For 3 seasons in a row now, we have had at least one starting player suffer a season-ending knee injury. I can’t even put into words what a cruel twist of fate that is. It’s not fair and it sucks. Maybe next year, fate will smile on us and all our players will stay healthy throughout the season. I’d say we’ve paid our karmic dues. Returning players and coaches, preparing for next season begins Monday morning!

  6. Amiah Hargrove needs more playing time. Excellent stats and is physically tough. Needs to play some at the three where we have been weak.

  7. It would hilarious if NU started to funnel some of that Omaha football money into the basketball program.

  8. I did not have power back till late afternoon and had a function to go to last night so only highlights from the game on youtube. Did get to listen to Matt and Jeff some. Considering what we lost this year (Potts and Weidner). We did better than one might have expected. Officials are always going to make questionable calls. Some hurt more than others. I also do think they get their marching orders if you know what I am referring to. We had our chances, just couldn't finish it. I like what we have for guards coming back we just need some athletic 4-5s from the portal. Great thoughts from the board.

  9. Nebraska had UL in foul trouble in the 4th, even being in the bonus at the 7-min. mark yet couldn't take advantage of that. I thought the calls later in the game were highly suspect, compared to how the game was called for 85% of the game. Oh well, it is what it is. I thought Britt got totally shafted on most of the fouls called against her. And UL grabbed, clawed, and pushed & hardly seemed to be whistled for that stuff late in the ballgame. I'm frustrated but it was bound to end, I had just hoped that NU could finish strong & make it until Sunday. GBR

  10. I'll take us being a stepping stone for a coach. That's better than the tombstone we currently are.

  11. Britt got screwed at the end there. Her 3rd should have never happened as Markowski got fouled right before that, her 4th was an awful charge call, and the 5th could have went either way I guess, but appears to have jumped under her.

  12. I'm glad for how we fought back, got the lead back, and gave ourselves a chance to win after a lackluster third quarter at best. It was a good year, just didn't end well in the last minute and a half or so. In a game this close you can always look at a few things that had we performed differently we would still be playing. So we look to see what happens in the off-season and how we can build and hopefully be a better program overall moving forward! GBR!

  13. And if you count Markowski being mugged before her 3rd. That makes three fouls on Britt in 2 minutes that were questionable at best

  15. It’s lack of quickness. We are playing hard but we can’t handle the pressure. I would take any inner city kid if they played hard for Nebraska.

    Postseason Hoops 2025

Purdue knows exactly how they want to construct a roster and they're good at identifying guys that will work for them. Braden Smith's was a 3 star with offers from North Texas, Toledo, Belmont, etc when Purdue offered and signed him. There are several stories about how Purdue will go see a high rated guy but then they'll see some guy who hasn't broken out that they'll land. Lots of teams out there spending more money than us not to make the tournament. Our roster construction from last year really points more towards not understanding how to build a team that Fred Hoiberg can successfully coach almost as much as lack of money might be an issue. I think the unfortunate reality is that unless the roster is constructed in a particular way, Fred will struggle.

  17. We were 4-7 against teams in the field of 32. Of those 7 losses, 4 of them went down to the final minute and could have gone either way. And then a couple were blowouts. That's basically the story of our season right there.

  18. I don't think "conference defenses had us figured out" explains our plummeting perimeter shooting accuracy after January 1. We looked good against UCLA on January 4. But blowing a 15-point lead at Iowa I guarantee hurt our psyche and probably sent us on the six-game skid. (You know how coaches always say "don't lose the same game twice;" I think we might have lost Iowa more than twice.) Anyway, we had six one-possession losses (including the Iowa OT loss, which we should have won in regulation.) A single additional made trey in any two of those games and we might well be dancing instead of watching. We were that close.

  19. Envious of the Purdue basketball program. I don't think any of their players are transfers and they'll pretty much all be back next year, including their two all-americans. There are dozens of division 1 prospects that come out of Indiana each year. Almost seems like Painter purposefully goes after the ones who are great college prospects, but not future NBA players, and lets the players who have one-and-done aspirations go elsewhere.

  20. I added it up recently, 21 points spread out across 7 games would have put us at 24-7.

  21. Can’t really argue that. We lost from too many turnovers in general

  25. Don't know about the rest of you, but this is probably the most painful NCAA tourney to watch that we didn't play in. By the end of the day, it appears very likely that 4 teams we beat during the regular season will advance to the round of 32. And three more teams that were one-score losses also look to advance. Damn, this one hurts.

  26. The coaches have their work cut out for them this offseason, but Rienk Mast is a great centerpiece to build around. He's going to be very underpaid by us next year, relative to what his actual value is. Bigs have the highest price tag right now, especially skilled ones. But he's not going anywhere, as it's been said he's with Fred 100%. Only way Mast won't be at Nebraska next year is if Hoiberg's not here. The Big Ten coaches essentially voted him the second best big in the league last year, behind the two time national POY (Mast was third team, but the first team was four guards and Edey, and second team was five guards). And he did this on one good leg. Could've shut down his season and had knee surgery in December. But chose to play through it because it was pretty clear we had a chance to be a tourney team and he was an important component (suck one, Devries). Transfer shooters and scorers will like his film breakdown. Selfless, excellent vision, great passer. Allows you to play five out with good pace and space.

South Dakota State. Proof that a sound, fundamental team that is tenacious and extremely well coached can have success. They have an excellent program. Of course they have no chance against UConn where overwhelming talent will win out.

  30. I know @basketballjones has been pushing their viewpoint of coaching. And in most context it's been related to better performance on the court. But there's also just some of those prominent coaches out there who can maintain and develop a roster for consecutive years. That's becoming a harder and harder trait to come by these days.

  31. What are you talking about?? ESPN is about to build the storyline that the SEC has the most wins in the tournament this year! (probably)

  32. The most frustrating part of this team is we are the worst at fundamentals. Case in point. Getting picked off 3rd base can never happen. Carey has been picked off 1st, 2nd, and 3rd this year. Congratulations! Nunez tries to go to 2nd in a ball the catcher blocks. Gets thrown out by 5 steps. I can live with losing if we are unlucky. I am sick of losing when we beat ourselves.

  35. Funny thing, I was watching this Louisville vs NU basketball game and suddenly a tackle football game broke out.

  36. Agreed. Idk about Bolt. They do have time to turn it around but man when’s the last time a men’s program actually held up to preseason expectations? I’ll add for basketball it doesn’t help that your Omaha boosters give to football but give to Creighton for basketball.

  37. I could argue that Danny brought some terrific talent, and had is right on the edge. What coulda and shoulda happen, didn't. That said, Huggy can coach.

  40. All these big name coaches probably wouldn’t give Nebraska a 2nd look. What might have happened if Bob Devaney hired Bob Huggins instead of Danny Née? Coaches are better with talent. If Nebraska cares enough we need to help Fred get better players, whatever the cost.

  41. Just wait until these teams play the Wildcats.

  42. Yep, I get it but no thanks. Put me in the camp that doesn't want to get their hands dirty. There are plenty of successful, high character coaches out there to lead programs. No need to sell our soul.

  44. Our five highest-volume perimeter shooters first half of the season vs. second half: Through the end of December, Conner Essegian was 35/79 for 44.3% from downtown; after January 1, he was 35/109 for 32.1% from downtown. Through the end of December, Brice Williams was 20/47 for 42.6%; after January 1, he was 35/108 for 32.4%. Through the end of December, Juwan Gary was 14/43 for 32.6%; after January 1, he was 20/67 for 29.9%. Through the end of December, Berke was 8/28 for 28.6%; after January 1, he was 14/49 for 28.6% but at a higher volume for a low-percentage shooter. Through the end of December, Rollie was 5/21 for 23.4%; after January 1, he was 6/29 for 20.7%.

  45. Just reiterating what some have probably already said: The lesson from last year is line up your dudes early. Maybe out-bid guys at the front end of the portal because the price goes up with increased scarcity at the end. It's like how it used to be before NIL when guys who were still available in the spring who had no business going to blue blood programs were being snatched up by those teams to fill their last available roster spots. Big money early gets better players than big money late. That's the lesson.
