Nebrasketball1979 and 3 others reacted to Swan88 for a topic
Additional anonymous reporting on another site, with alleged insider access, is that (I) the coaches feel good about their chances with Berke, but it’s not a done deal, and (ii) they are talking with other players too—but won’t take someone just to fill a spot. So . . . what I typed above must be at least fourth-hand hearsay.4 points -

I will add a bit of fuel to a fire that already may be burning pretty hot. The articles I have read regarding BYU's recruiting, such as this one: https://www.vanquishthefoe.com/2024/5/5/24149078/byu-basketball-recruiting-notebook-may-5-keba-keita-chaz-lanier-berke-buyuktuncel-tranfer-portal Does not seem to place Berke as a priority recruit. He appears to be more of a secondary player. I cannot believe a kid with this advertised talent will hook up with a school that doesn't have a "major contributor role" defined for him. Perhaps I am missing something? But between the whispering I have heard, and the articles read, I have to believe Berke is ours if the price is right.4 points -

One observation is that she is playing as if the weight of the WNBA is on her shoulders. All the while she is despised by half the league while the other half is jealous. I will make one comparison; when Tiger turned pro, he had similar reactions from other pros. Due in part to his race, while also maintaining a rather brazen attitude. However, many of his adversaries soon learned that his presence put major dollars in their pockets, and many of the enemies became friendlier and much more welcoming. Clark is a positive for that league. The league administration understands that; but will the players understand that Clark could bring them major $$$?2 points -

Yeah, I for one, will be rooting for him to play and live out the rest of his college career on the court instead of the training room. The odds certainly don't appear to be in his favor though. He seems like a genuinely good kid based off very brief interactions with him.2 points -

Nice find. Here’s the money sentence on Berke from the article: ”Berke may not be on the top of BYU’s board but he is a guy they are pursuing.”1 point

Whatever logistics it might take to compensate Berke might be is something we've already dealt with and something that BYU would need to deal with as well.1 point -

Projected starting line up

One thing that we need to remind ourselves is that part of coaching is just that, actually coaching basketball skills. We seem to get lost in thinking that Player A did this at his last school so that is exactly what he is and he can't be a different or better player for Nebraska and for Fred Hoiberg. Brice Williams was a 6th man. At Charlotte. He averaged 13.8 / 5.3 / 1.2 playing against AAC competition. He averaged 13.4 / 5.5 / 2.5 at Nebraska starting every game and playing in the Big Ten. Essentially you could say a guy whose role was Charlotte's 6th man in 2022-23 was arguably Nebraska's best and most important player in 2023-24 on the the best team we've had in a longggg time. He had more assists this season than he did in 3 years at Charlotte. No one last year would have been saying this guy would be doing all that. Rienk Mast shot 122 treys for us last year when his previous season totals were 92, 95, 68. Mast had 95 assists when his previous season totals were 37, 44, 70. He was more of an outside threat and distributor at Nebraska than he ever was at Bradley. Keisei Tominaga was not really a very good player for the first 1.5 years of his Nebraska career. Until Fred unlocked him and then he transformed his game into being a scorer both inside and out and getting to the free throw line. If you remember to 2021-22, he was not that whatsoever. Fred Hoiberg is our basketball coach. The Big Ten Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year. He is by all accounts an offensive genius. Our system and sets immediately put our players in a better situation than they have probably ever been in in their lives. The difference between last year and previous years is he stopped just taking the highest rated player they could get or biggest name they could get and instead actually found skillsets that would complement each other and make for a tough, good team. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that the players he is bringing in is because he sees something in them that he can bring out.1 point -
