to have a different thought process about the Creighton game every year.

I mean, it always seems like kind of a big deal when it's coming up on the schedule.  But, by the end of the year, it doesn't have much impact on whether we reach the post-season or which post-season tournament we might play in.

So, for example, the year we made the dance 2 seasons ago, we lost to Creighton.  When Doc was coach, we didn't make the dance at all but beat Creighton every other year.

So, I think I've finally decided to adopt a different perspective on this game.

Rather than look at it as a game I reeeeeeeaaally want to see us win each year, I think I'm going to look at it as something on the calendar that I have to get past in order to move on to other stuff I'd rather do.

When I was a kid, we had to go visit grumpy Uncle Ralph in the nursing home every year around Christmas time.  Mom would load us kids in the Buick and we'd make the two-hour drive to Shady Acres nursing home, listen for an hour or so to grumpy Uncle Ralph complain about his nurses and the food and his stupid kid who dropped out of school to join a band and his diverticulitis and ... everything else.  And then drive home.

It was torture.  But mom always said we had to do it, and you didn't say no to my mom.

So, we did it.  Every year.  Didn't look forward to it; dreaded it, really.  But, y'know, when it was done, you could cross it off your list and look forward to Christmas.  It was like, "Now that that's done, we know Christmas is just around the corner.  Woohoo!"

So, from now on, Creighton isn't Creighton to me anymore.

Creighton is my grumpy Uncle Ralph ... who died of complications from a bowel obstruction.  May he ... and they ... rest in peace.

I believe I'll be adopting your strategy as well. Much better than my paralyzing pessimism approach towards this game. I'm tired of getting dramatically let down every year. :'(

With this new POV, I'll come right out and say I HATE uncle Ralph(creighton). Love the underhanded slap in the face to creighton and their fans, we all know full well they don't deserve our respect...

Well I can guarantee you that Wisconsin isn't freaking out that they won't make the dance because they lost to Wisconsin Whitewater or whatever.  They are lacing the shoes back up, and their fans will be as loud as ever the next game.

I love going to away games... But it seems pointless to keep playing in Omaha if we can't beat them there.

I am starting to come around to the idea of dropping them off the schedule.

Maybe we should do home and away with UNO instead.

If we are going to drop them from the schedule, do it after the year we beat them on their court. I don't want to hear how amazing they are and how we're scared and will never ever beat them again in perpetuity.

Can't drop them until we win a few.  Maybe have a 5 in  wins in 6 years stretch or something.  Can you imagine Creighton fans if we dropped them now?  Remember what we kept hearing from Texas when we went to the big10?   It would be that X100.

There was a 45-year break in the series, so you never say never. Personally, I could take it or leave it. I'd like to see Nebraska play Omaha, and quite frankly, Creighton ought to play Omaha as well. You see Cincy & Xavier every year, the Philly schools often do too. A lot of other Div. 1 program play their intracity squad(s) a lot.

I think all the schools should play. Nebraska, Creighton and Omaha. I also think it'd be great to have a Nebraska basketball day every year where each school plays a neutral team. Three games. One day. Rotate between Pinnacle and Century Link every season.

Looking forward to beating Creighton at the PBA next year.

As far as road games, we're not going very far unless we play them and at some point win them. Might as well be the Jays every other year.

Prepare to be heartbroken. Especially if you look forward to it for 360 days. You should take norms advice.

Maybe it's much easier for me in Lincoln because I don't go to the same brandy snifting parties that you Omaha guys attend. Here's the thing, if anyone is going to take Norm's advice because they obsess over one game on our schedule they would arrive at the level of perspective I already live at.

I want to play big games and good opponents because I care a lot more about achieving relevancy and building something than I live in fear of failure. We've gotten killed by Ohio St., Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan St, etc and guess what? I'm looking forward to beating some of those guys this year too. We'll beat Creighton soon enough as well. When we do I'll be a lot more exuberant than i'll be all broken up when we don't.

Well said Dimes.  I chomped at the bit every year for us to play Kansas, and just about every year we got taken behind the woodshed.  But every year I wanted another shot at them.  You want to know how you match up against the best, to see how far you need to go, and to taste a little sweet revenge.  Eventually we'll win, and when we do it will be sweeter than that brandy they're sniffing in Omaha.

What gets me about the Creighton game is the amount of intensity the Jays bring to the game every year.  It seems like a Super Bowl atmosphere.  I credit Coach McDermott for having his kids ready to play.  Our guys play hard, but in this game they seem tight and playing not to lose.  I watch Creighton in other games (like ASU) and they at times look like we did against them and there are games when we just let it all hang out play well in Big 10 games.  When you play so many games that will happen, the ups and downs of a season but man it seems like a broken record watching us play Creighton.

That's where I am at.  I think it is good for hoops in our state for the division 1 institutions to play regularly.  Right now Creighton is in Nebraska's head, including the coach IMO.  Miles really needs to beat Mac next year just to get the gorilla off of his back.  Creighton is much better at home than on the road so I was not expecting a win.

I hope our team is not obsessing about the past as much as many on the board seem to do. We played a game a couple of days ago and got thoroughly thrashed. If we are still dwelling on that fiasco we should end up the same way on Sunday. Unless players, coaches, and fans are ready for this next one then Hurley will put a McDermott on us.

I don't think they are. It's a message board thing. The players will practice for Rhodie and I can't believe the coaches will bring up Creighton.
