Yes, that's why I mentioned not seeing them in practice.

Rollie apparently was playing with a plate in his shoe since December. He's going to be in a walking boot for the next month.

Meah is recovering from a back injury, will be a game-time decision on Monday.

Gavin twisted his ankle and they hope he'll be available on Monday.

Listened to a bit on the Ticket this morning. They were joking that maybe the tournament needs to have some of the cutouts that they used in the stands during covid.  It didn't sound like a lot of tickets were sold for this event.

Just like most sports these days, it's about the media contract, not the ticket sales.

An idea for the Crown that will never happen....

1. Eliminate the first 4 in Dayton. I know, eliminating these games would take a little bit away from the NCAA, but hear me out.

2. Move the NCAA tournament back a week. The first round games would happen the SECOND Thursday after Selection Sunday.

3. The Crown becomes a play-in for the last four spots in the at-large field. The Crown would essentially be the first 16 teams OUT of the NCAA tournament. This would be played during the first week in which the NCAA tournament normally would be played.

4. In order to entice teams not to pack it in after making the Crown Final 4, monetary incentives could still be offered. So more money for winning it all.

5. Fox could still hold broadcast rights for the Crown and would probably draw more eyes.

6. Teams who don't go to the Crown get an extra week of prep/rest/recovery for the NCAA tournament.

So the schedule would look something like

Selection Sunday --> Tuesday/Wednesday First Rounds Crown --> Thursday/Friday Crown Quarters--> Sunday #2 --> Crown Semis --> Monday #2 Crown Championship --> Thursday/Friday #2 NCAA tournament begins

I think it's a fun idea and would definitely draw better ratings than what this iteration of the Crown will do.  The schedule is the big complicating factor.  However, if you take the 16 teams and split them into 4 pods of 4 based off seeding, you could then have a two game, single elimination play in tournament for each group of 4.  That would at least eliminate two rounds of your proposed iteration of the Crown and create the final 4 at large selections.  I would watch that!

I read somewhere that the reason the Crown starts so late is in the future they hope they can line up some teams that have already dropped out of the NCAA tourney to join theirs.

I heard talk on the radio of that. Like a backside of the bracket for the round of 32 teams that lost.

Since we're in a world of hypotheticals and not listing the many reasons why these will never happen...

They should just get rid of the conference basketball tournaments and replace it with [insert tournament format you want to see to expand March Madness].

They won't do that though because the Big Ten championship had nearly 6M viewers, while the Xavier/Texas game in Dayton only had 2.5M.

Extending the duration of this tournament doesn't necessarily equate to more money without diluting the product.

Nebraska gets it's first NCAA tournament win in the round of 352

I have said that for years and many times on this site.  Get rid of all the confence tournaments.  Seed teams into groups of 4 and the higher seeds all get to playat home.  After two days there would be x number of teams left.  then do what has to be done it would either be 64 or more teams left, to make up the final tournament.  That way everybody would be on a levle playing field so they couldn't get upset in their conference tournament and still make the big dance.

Just something I have thought about late at night when I can't sleep.🤨
