Not going to beat many teams shooting 35% and 23% from three.  Brice had to go for more than 7 but nobody helped him by making some open shots.  It's game like today I would have tried to play Griffiths just to see if he could make something.

so how does the college basketball crown work?

I was worried that Iowa would handle our defense.  Nebraska just did not improve as the season went along.

I was thinking about this during the game. Did any player other than maybe Brice get better as the season progressed? Most - if not virtually all - seemed to get worse.

Likely my last time posting anything until next season but a couple of final thoughts:

I like the players on the team - as individuals. There are some good players, they seem to be good guys, don’t cause trouble, etc. But as unpopular as this might be, as a team this group was not all that likeable.

The lack of leadership, the lack of consistent effort, the lack of basketball IQ at some of the worst times - this team was not fun to watch once the calendar hit January.

If it were up to me, I would decline an NIT or any other postseason invite. I guess I would understand a cash grab for NIL but beyond that, it would serve no purpose in program development. I can’t imagine many people caring enough to attend or even watch, me included.

As for HCFH, I’ve reached the point of not caring one way or the other. I would be somewhat surprised if he gets fired, but whatever happens, happens.

The program has a trust issue...every year we get glowing reports from the media and staff of the incredible talent, growth, and camaraderie of the team. And then a 12-2 start gets us dreaming. Then we Nebrasketball the heck out of the season with our droughts, our inability to not foul or draw fouls, and the abundance of awkward opposing bench players having career night to counter any good plans we had.

I can't even say I am a "fan" anymore, it's more like going to a tragedy where there are some amazing performances, and moments of optimism, but by the third act all hope is dead.

Does Fred need to make some changes with his staff??  He doesn’t really have an ace recruiter. Really feel

like he needs one!  Who’s doing the recruiting. Is it all him?  We need a Kenya Hunter type than can recruit some good players.

I'd get Loenser off defense.  One thing was consistent this year, leaving shooters wide open.

I see it going one of three ways…

If Nebraska cared or had any expectations at all, they would not retain Fred. They would bring in a new coach and start investing more money into players. If Nebraska cared some, they would bring back Fred and pay for better players. If Nebraska doesn’t care at all, they will retain Fred and give him a similar player budget next year.

I fully expect Fred to come back and to have a similar budget. That’s what Nebraska basketball is.
