Busch Light Posted November 14, 2023 Report Posted November 14, 2023 Just real clown stuff from the University. Our men’s sports have never been this bad ever. Understand that Trev didn’t cause it, but maybe let’s be a little more practical until we aren’t the gutter dumpster of men’s P5 sports before we lock up an AD who hasn’t really proven anything to a mega contract. I mean he made a terrible decision on retaining Frost and letting Kalen DeBoer go only to have to throw an entire season away and fire Frost early for a big penalty. Now I am optimistic about the Rhule hire, but it’s too early to tell. Giving Fred another year (to me) was a huge risk that quite frankly wouldn’t fly anywhere else. Like Fred and the current team a lot but if he goes .500 or worse again this year it was a horrible decision. Hopefully Rhule and Fred get it going. But until they do, I don’t see any reason to lock up Trev (like that anyway). I like Trev, too. I just think it’s silly. My two cents, I’m sure others will disagree. Quote

Faux Mike Peltz Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 1) I personally believe he’s doing a great job 2) This is being done as a retention measure and locks him under contract until 2031. 3) Compared to Pedey, Eichorst, and Moos, Trev is way above their level 4) He is navigating through NIL, stadium expansion, facility upgrades, and holding coaches accountable 5) None of this raise is costing a single penny of tax dollars, so I’m completely ok with it. cipsucks Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 From the little research I did, this would bring him to the top of the pay scale of AD's in the B1G. Ultimately it’s not my money if things go south, so I’m not all that passionate about this one way or the other. The notion that Trev would be poached by a big time school is premature in my opinion. Hopefully everyone wants him soon, that would be great for us. I just can’t see some SEC school clamoring for an AD who retains 3 win football coaches and throws away seasons despite strong evidence against doing so. Big football schools would have made him fire the coach or flat out canned the AD. Regardless. I think Trev is going to be here a while and I welcome stability. It would be great if Trev was here the next 8 years and got our men’s programs competitive again. Perhaps it may be premature but it could work out very well in the end. Quote
tcp Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 Congrats to Trev. Compared to the string of monstrosities we've had at the position through most of the millenia, just stabilizing the ADs office had to have been a monumental task. With NIL practically transforming college sports into a semi-pro environment, the job of managing the circus of athletics got a lot harder. You're going to see more of this in the NIL age until people figure better ways to compensate athletes without taking a wrecking ball to espirit de corps by creating a social division of haves and have nots where there once was none. I don't envy any AD this job going into the future. hhcmatt, Cazzie22, Faux Mike Peltz and 1 other 4 Quote
doc1394 Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 Say whatever you want about whether or not Trev deserves it, but a lame duck President should not be signing contracts like this on his way out. Cornbread21 1 Quote
