Sharpie

Tominaga

That’s it to me, really. But I also just don’t understand why some of these guys came if they weren’t virtually guaranteed a starting spot. Ulis, Williams, Mast, etc…

I think, assuming everyone’s healthy, our first starting line-up is:

5. Mast

4. Gary

3. Williams

2. Tominaga

1. Ulis

But I could see a “better line-up” where we go like:

5. Allick

4. Gary

3. Williams

2. Tominaga

1. Lawrence

And I mean I haven’t even mentioned Wilcher, Sam Hoiberg, Lloyd Jr., Blaise, Rice, and a possible new guy like Mongolian Mike. I also don’t see how you keep a dude like Lawrence off the court or from playing majority minutes. If teams don’t have to respect another water bug scorer on the court they can sell out to stop KT.

I believe the lone sharpie is Keisei.   I am even struggling with what could be a nine player rotation.  You could literally throw up any nine of our scholarship players,  and even factor in two of our walk-ons and I wouldn't be shocked at the lists.

Here is a tougher question in my mind, if we agree to a nine player rotation.   Who is left out of said rotation???

Not Laughing at you Norm; just saying I love your analogies!   👌

Re: Huskerpapa & BBJones;  with the depth of talent shown by our trouble in coming up with a definite starting lineup; I wonder if we are "Tournament Bound."  🙏💣

Sharpie:

Tominaga

Mast

Tominaga is obvious enough to not require explanation.  Mast is both the most skilled post on the roster and also the healthiest.

Dry Erase, in decreasing order of confidence:

Gary

Ulis

Lawrence

Gary gets the nod over Allick.  One, I do think a solid incumbent starter gets the benefit of the doubt, unless there are lingering concerns with his injury recovery.  But Allick is also recovering from injury, so it's tough to take the local kid transfer over the incumbent.

I don't think we would've scrambled so hard to find an experienced PG if we had a Day 1 starter already on the roster. Not surprising if Lawrence or Lloyd take the reigns at some point during the season, but probably not on opening day.

Maybe Williams would prefer to start rather than come off the bench.  Maybe Lloyd is as good as hyped.  Maybe Wilcher finally puts it all together over the summer.  Maybe we land another transfer starter.  If any of those things happen, then that would likely push Lawrence to the bench.  I don't feel too strongly about Lawrence being the fifth starter but you gotta list somebody.

I'd guess Rice is out of the rotation.  Blaise very well could be for health reasons.  That gets you down to 9 scholarship rotation players.  Wilcher is the complete headscratcher for me.  He could literally be anything from a Top 2 scorer to completely out of the rotation, and neither would surprise me.

Lloyd could absolutely BLOW up, don’t underestimate the Governor, yer Sharpies were the same as mine & I’d Love ❤️ to see what Blaise & Mast look like together since Reinke can step outside & knock down threes.

So here we sit again.  Even right up to the end here we’ve missed on some pieces that seemingly could have added some more to our team.  We have guys recovering from surgeries ( 3 - good grief ), our star’s away again for the summer and only 11 on scholarship.  Make no mistake, nobody will be picking us pre season to dance post season.  But lots has went well since the season has ended.  Just like last year, this looks like a roster of guys the fans will appreciate.  Is this the one that will make history?  It kind of has that weird feel for me….

We could still Andrew Benedict Arnold (White) our way into a solid player.

But year… not catching many fish lately in what seemed to be a fairly saturated pond just a few days to.

Here is my sharpie lineup

Ramel Lloyd

Juwan Gary

Keisei Tominaga

Brice Williams

Rienk Mast

The wildcard is Jamarques Lawrence as hard to keep him on the bench.  Also have guys like Ahron Ulis who could start as well.  Lots of different options this year for Fred to work with.  I really like our top 9 and the variation of lineups you can do with it

Ramel Lloyd

Juwan Gary

Keisei Tominaga

Brice Williams

Rienk Mast

Blaise Keita

Jamarques Lawrence

Ahron Ulis

Josiah Allick

I'm going to cheat and give two separate lineups...who I think will start game one, and who I think will start the second half of the season:

Game 1 starters (all sharipe):

Ulis

Lawrence

Keisei

Gary

Mast

2nd half of season starters:

Lloyd - dry erase

Keisei - sharpie

Williams - sharpie

Gary - dry erase

Mast - sharpie

I’m not sure how to tell people that Ramel Lloyd isn’t going to go from redshirting because he wasn’t ready to play at all, to starting. Especially early.

Don’t think he redshirted because he wasn’t ready (seemed ahead of JL in the preseason), few frosh are but do agree he won’t be starting early. Hopefully he grows into the role in the future. Such a mystery though, can’t wait to see what he actually brings to the table.

the williams not starting stuff is hilarious to me, he’s the most talented/versatile player on the roster, it’d be one thing if there was a 3 on the roster that’s somewhat worthy of the starting spot, but there’s not. the only positions where i think there could be an actually battle for playing time is mainly the 4 (gary and allick) don’t know what the plan is for jamarques, do they see him as a pg? then i definitely can see him overtaking the starting pg spot sometime throughout the season. i’ve really lowered my expectations for lloyd ever since the whole redshirt thing, hope i’m wrong but seems like a lot of you guys are setting yourself up for disappointment (praying i’m wrong)

Washut has said all along that it was Lloyd's decision to redshirt but it was clear to everyone that he wasn't ready physically to play last year.

I don’t think it was as much not being ready, rather he has someone advising him that is grounded in reality. His father was a D-1 athlete and been through those travails. He could be honest and tell Ramel he should prepare to make the most of every year of his eligibility because he isn’t a surefire NBA guy. He could see his body needed some work to compete at the P5 level, and that he would be better served as with a year of skill development and weight room work rather than getting the kind of freshman minutes that J-Law was getting before guys got hurt. Better to save that year of eligibility.

I think some folks will be surprised at the impact Ramel is able to have this year. I’m not suggesting he’s going to be All-B1G or anything, but All-Freshman B1G wouldn’t be shocking to me.

As with the team, I'm going to take a wait-and-see approach on Ramel. I've seen some things that leave me encouraged and other things that aren't so encouraging. Has he actually transformed his body since he got here? Has he been putting in the work in the weight room? Is he putting in the extra time in the gym working on his shot? I don't know. I hope he is. If he is, he certainly has potential to make the rotation and possibly even start. Too much is unknown for me to make a prediction.

A wait-and-see approach is a good idea. They say he added 10-15 lbs of solid weight in the last year but some recent photos lead me to be skeptical. He also just doesn't have an athletic body type so I suppose the photos don't mean he hasn't improved his measurables and athleticism. He's just not going to be the big, physical guard that Griesel was. Sam was an absolute tank of a basketball player. Ramel is more skilled for sure. But a January photo of his shooting form was equally as alarming.

Man, the photos I’ve seen make it look like he has really worked on us body. Easily looks like 10+ pounds. No info on the jump shot except from the practice highlights that were leaked
