tcp Posted February 15, 2023 Report Posted February 15, 2023 it's a dream, alright. But for some reason, the big a$$ pinch I just administered didn't change that chart a bit. 3 seed? us? okay, I definitely need to lay off the crack pipe. Quote
Handy Johnson Posted February 15, 2023 Report Posted February 15, 2023 I was WAY ahead of the curve on this last week, minus any ivermectin or smoked banana peels. Can’t wait to see what the PBA looks like on Sunday…! Swan88 1 Quote

I mean, not only would we have to win out, but Minnesota would too except for the game vs. us, so... More realistic, win two and we should have a decent shot at 10th. Win 3 we'll be sitting pretty for Thursday. Handy Johnson and HuscurAdam 1 1 Quote
HuscurAdam Posted February 15, 2023 Report Posted February 15, 2023 This is almost guaranteed to happen now, just so the NCAA can snub the 3rd place B1G team, just like they did when we finished 4th. Handy Johnson 1 Quote
uneblinstu Posted February 16, 2023 Author Report Posted February 16, 2023 I got curious about what NU needs to do to get out of the Wednesday games. In short, Pass Penn St. and Wisconsin. Huskers are .5 games behind PSU and 1.5 back of Wisc. NU owns the tiebreaker over the Badgers. PSU owns the tiebreaker vs NU if they end up tied. If all three are tied, NU would be the 10 seed, I believe. Penn St. has 5 games left, 3 on the road, but two of them are at Minnesota and Ohio St. The rest of their schedule is vs. Rutgers, at NW and vs. Maryland. Challenging. Wisconsin has a tougher slate, though 3 of their 5 remaining are at home: vs. Rutgers, vs. Iowa, at Michigan, vs. Purdue, at Minnesota. Also challenging. NU as you all likely know, get three home games in a row vs. Maryland, Minnesota and Michigan St. before finishing at Iowa. If anyone stumbles vs. Minnesota, it could be the difference in playing Wednesday vs. Thursday. aphilso1, HuscurAdam, Bugeaters1 and 1 other 2 2 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted February 16, 2023 Report Posted February 16, 2023 Not sure where to put this, so I'll put it here. Would any of these Ls be Ws if Walker had played the first 5 games? Remember we were up in that game early because they couldn't score. If we somehow manage to be up 15-20 instead of like 10 at half.... I think it's a completely different game. You could also make the case against Oklahoma. It's unfortunate that he missed those early games because those were certainly winnable. HuscurAdam, Art Vandalay and mkroll12345 1 2 Quote
49r Posted February 16, 2023 Report Posted February 16, 2023 We got a little unlucky that Memphis was upset by Seton Hall in their first game in Orlando. Could have maybe slipped past Seton Hall in that second game. Would have put us against Stanford instead of Florida State though on the last day which would have been a much tougher test, so it's hard to say if we'd have gotten out of there with two wins instead of just one. Huskerpapa Posted February 16, 2023 Report Posted February 16, 2023 Hard to play "what if" with this year's squad. What if Bando and Jawan don't get hurt? What if Wilhelm had good knees? What if DW was good from the start? What if Sam G was 100% each game? What if Blaise was 100% all year? Then you look at a few of the benefactors from above; Dawson, Lawrence, Keisei and Sam Hoiberg. Rather than what if, I say holy sh*t, what a strange but somewhat stimulating ride this has been. Red Don, Nebrasketball1979, cipsucks and 6 others 5 4 Quote

I'm sure we all wondered what the season would have been like to have a complete roster the entire year. But like you mentioned, Keisei would not be playing at this level if some of the injuries didn't happen. He finally was able to get some more minutes and grow into the player he currently is instead of getting a quick nod to the bench after a bad shot. You nailed it as it has been a very interesting ride and might actually be beneficial to us next year. Nebrasketball1979, Huskerpapa, Bugeaters1 and 3 others 6 Quote

Chuck Taylor Posted February 17, 2023 Report Posted February 17, 2023 According to the bracket generator at http://bball.notnothing.net/big10.php?sport=mbb : A Maryland win puts us in position for a 10 seed facing Michigan State. A loss puts us at 11 against Minnesota, then Indiana. Winning out still leaves us at a 10 seed, but against Iowa. I didn't do all the many configurations to get us to a 3 seed. This was enough thinking for one day. Quote

That also assumes the rest of the games go according to the favorites, which they won't, so there are a ton of variables at play. Quote
uneblinstu Posted February 17, 2023 Author Report Posted February 17, 2023 There is also at least one scenario where NU wins 3 more and still ends up as the 12 seed. Quote

It was very hard for us to NOT be the 10 seed and very hard for us to be anything but the 10 seed. Edited February 17, 2023 by basketballjones Quote

Phantom foul on a Purdue player; he over-reacts and gets whistled for a T; Purdue goes from up like up 6 to down 17 in the next 10 minutes. It was like a 27-4 run. That technical foul really threw Purdue off. Like a punch to the chin that staggered them and almost dropped them to the canvass. I don't think they recovered. So, yeah, Maryland won pretty big, but don't give Maryland too much of the credit. Purdue self-destructed after that T. Quote
