Does anyone remember a more disappointing season that led to more apathy for the next season then we experienced this year?  I can remember being really disappointed the year after Miles' team made the tournament.  I thought that team would be better than the year before and we should win an NCAA game at least but I can't remember the skepticism being there the next year as bad as this year.  I  know we have set the bar pretty high over the years for disappointing seasons but it seems even the most loyal posters are taking a different approach or attitude toward this season.  I guess we had such high expectations for Hoiberg as a coach compared to coaches of the past.

I think three historically horrible years in a row have tested the resolve of even the most diehard fans.

Oh, believe me, I'm still skeptical. And, in fact, skeptical isn't really the right word because it's not so much that I doubt whether they can get it done; instead, I'm still quite confident they cannot.

HOWEVER, rather than questioning whether I want to go to the game tonight or have my fingernails removed, I am now quite confident that this will be a group of players I will want to go cheer for.

I certainly hope they live up to your bolded expectations.  Myself, I will take a wait and see approach on even that aspect of it.

If you would’ve told me 5 years ago we’d be getting the National Coach of the Year (Football) & the Coach of the Chicago Bulls (Basketball) regardless of their Husker ties I thought it would be the Days of Wine 🍷 & Roses 🌹 not an abject failure across the board.

I remember asking people "and what if Frost can't turn it around?" when he was hired. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, like that would never happen.  I felt that way about Hoiberg after his hire.  Frost, Hoiberg and Bolt seemed to be perfect coaches for NU.  Now we are full of questions.

Perhaps after Barry's last year, prior to his late departure.  🤔

Well, one of those questions got answered today.

At this point that is all I want. I want a group that I can cheer on.

I feel this exact way, I have no idea how this year is gonna go, and its very likely to go just as poorly as the last 3, but a lot of times last year it felt like that team quit/weren't connected and just flat out did not like each other, this group doesn't seem to be like that, we'll see how it goes but I know I'm excited to root for this team on a personal level and on a team level

Many of us are long suffering husker basketball fans.  That is the foundation from which this site was built.

Here is the deal.  I wear certain clothing pieces game after game when we are winning (yes I do wash them).  I wish for wins.  I pray for wins.  I invest monetarily, emotionally, spirituality and physically (jumping/yelling) for OUR team.

BUT...when I do not see the team invest their emotion, spirit, efforts for their teammates, then I am hurt and mad.

This year I am hoping for a good return on my investment.   But I simply cannot go into the season with rose colored glasses.  This team (is again) mostly new.  But I placed myself squarely into the prove it to me mode.  Hey, the league hasn't digressed; so this isn't totally about wins and losses.  It is about teamwork, effort  basketball IQ and completing the little things that are necessary to be competitive.

If we get to that spot, I will be a happy camper; because wins will start appearing...and we will take possession of our home court.

Another Sunday exhibition game against the Buffs. This time in Boulder. Here’s to hoping it’s not our best game of the season this time around.

Let's hope it's our worst game. I don't know how many Rock Bottom threads I can read through this year.

I really think this is rock bottom because expectations have never been so low. Everybody who isn't pessimistic is hiding so as not to be the subject of ridicule. How miserable can the actual season be, when it's coming off such a gloomy preseason?

If Husker hoops was the stock market, then I'd say this is the low and it's time to buy GBR. However, it's not the stock market so maybe it's best to stuff your cash under the mattress and wait.

We have 22 pages of people saying this sentiment in slightly different ways.  And yet, we somehow make rock bottom just a bit deeper.

I have this same theory about Husker sports as I had with the price of gas except kind of in reverse. See, the price of gas skyrockets, everyone goes "Holy Sh!t would you look at that!" and then it settles back by about 15-20 cents per gallon and everyone's like, "whew, price of gas, back down, man. I was just paying $4.35 the other day and now it's all the way back to $4.20."

Yeah, so we used to win 17, 18, 19 games per season in basketball or 9 or 10 games per season in football. Man, them are some high expectations! Bring in a couple of new coaches and that drops to like 7 wins in hoops and 3 wins in football.

Next time we bring in new coaches, say we bounce up to like .500, we're all going to be feeling fat and happy like pigs in slop.

See, there's a way of diminishing our expectations: take us to a level that's shockingly bad and then ease off on it just a bit and we'll all be like, hey, yeah, that's a lot better.

Patience, my friend. Patience.

Soon enough they'll expand the basketball and football playoffs enough where we'll be a shoe-in at #150.

Expecting 3 wins and 7 wins might be overly optimistic this year.

Especially setting such a high expectation of 3 wins for the football team.  Prefer to set a goal for them they might actually be able to obtain for a change

According to Scott we just have TOO many good players. We’re so loaded at the skilled positions it’s impossible to get them all on the field. This narrative will change no doubt as the season unfolds. Basketball 🏀 can’t get here soon enough…

Starting the countdown for "Baseball can't get here soon enough..."

But after that the excitement will be through the roof to see how the new coaches teams perform in football and basketball 😃
