Grand Valley State vs. Nebraska (Exh.)

The good: - Man we’re big and long. Strong looking dudes too. - Even as average as we played, our defense is just tough to score on. - Thought a lot of dudes made some nice individual plays. - The high-low plays for Meah. I’d love to see a few more wrinkles on those. - Lots of steals and hands in passing lanes. The bad: - Definitely not 5 playing as 1 yet. Thats for sure. And I’m not talking about typical pre-season sputters. Far behind where they should be right now after this many practices. - I expected a lot more O rebounds. Especially on sub- 50% shooting. - Gave up 14 offensive rebounds to a D2 team…. Yikes. - Anything with Meah operating at the top of the key. Yeeesh. Please don’t try to force that. He doesn’t have any feel for it and does not have the skills for it. And we don’t have time for him to figure it out. The ugly: - Does everyone on this team have mono? Second time I’ve seen them, they look lethargic, uninterested, and bored. Maybe that’s a good thing? Need a bit more of a challenge to get our juices flowing? -Body language leaves quite a bit to be desired… whiney and uninspired.4 points -

just a little sidenote from the Husker-Doane article in the OWH: Last week, Nebraska met up with North Dakota State in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for a scrimmage at the Sanford Pentagon, where Nebraska will play in November. The Huskers won 84-67 in an impressive showing against a team that went 22-12 last season. Markowski was great in that game, scoring 23 points on 9 for 11 shooting from the field and 5 for 6 at the line. Prince and Amiah Hargrove each added nine points and three rebounds for the Huskers.2 points -

There will be a couple lineups with this team that won’t have the shooting acumen we had last year. I know some on here don’t want him to shoot a three at all, but Gary will need to keep defenses honest and shoot a couple. He shouldn’t be hunting shots but a couple catch and shoots from the corner or wing are what we’ll need. As a team, we looked to be playing slow and reactively rather than anticipating and playing quickly. Saw our ball handlers try to push it from time to time but the other four weren’t getting up to that pace. That speed hopefully comes along a bit more each game. We also played guys that won’t be regular rotation players for ~40 mins. That’s good and bad, good for their experience and motivation, bad for getting time in a game-like setting for our rotation players who are still learning to play together.2 points -

https://www.barttorvik.com/team.php?team=Northern+Iowa&year=2025 Looks like they're being projected to finish pretty high on the MVC, but Wisconsin shouldn't lose to them still. A sign of things to come, as I think this may be a rough year for them. Crowl is arguably their best player, or klesmit, and neither are guys you want to be your best player in this conference.2 points -

Fortunate enough to be up and close today. Got to see and hear some things I normally don’t. Some could say we were sloppy, I think that’s natural for an early season exhibition game. Connor had an off night from the outside, but our length is going to give teams fits. I’m not surprised about the 13 steals because we have active hands and deflected and altered quite a few passes. Because of Morgan being out, Berke was the backup center to spell Meah. Sam was also out (ankle) so Cale got some nice minutes too. I predict 2-3 guys will redshirt that we saw today. Too bad it’s not like football where they can play in a few games. Gavin is a better shooter than advertised. Brice and Gary and Rollie are definitely the leaders. Uhlis is solid, not overly flashy. Berke has a thick frame but I wonder how he will go against opposing big ten PF’s and Centers. should be a fun year!!!2 points -

HHCC Game #01 - vs. Texas Rio Grande Valley (Nov. 4, 7:00 PM CST)
Shawn Eichorst's Toupee reacted to HuskerFever for a topic
The time has come. If you're unfamiliar with Husker Hoops Central Challenge (HHCC), it's simple. Just submit a prediction below. If you have the lowest score, then you have bragging rights until the next game. Get the lowest score at the end of the season and you get proof that you're smarter than everyone else (professional sports statisticians included). Here's a quick refresh on the rules: If you've made it this far and still haven't submitted a prediction, what's the deal? It just takes a few seconds. See you in the HHCC threads. THREE THINGS THIS HHCC ROUND: 1) Your score prediction for Nebraska vs. Texas Rio Grande Valley (as usual). 2) BONUS (-5 points): Predicting the exact number of non-conference season wins (Nov. 4-Dec. 1, Dec. 22-Dec. 30) -- (e.g. I am looking for an answer like "11", which indicates the number of wins you predict Nebraska will win in the non-conference.) 3) *Predicting the exact number of total regular season (non-conference + conference) wins (Nov. 4-Mar. 9) -- (e.g. I am looking for an answer like "31", which indicates the number of wins you predict Nebraska will win in the entire regular season.) * This will not count as a bonus (and it will not count against you), but in the past years it has been a missing data point of interest that would've been useful in seeing how closely we have come to predicting the outcome of the season1 point -

Not really very concerned on who started at this point. This was more like a scrimmage. This is a much different team from last year. We have 4 or so from last that will probably start, but the new players appear to be contributors down the road. Amy's just sorting things out and getting everyone on the floor to see who can do what....well. If we do that much mixing of players, some times a little confusion shows up. The players you might expect to be ready to go...were. Rimdal may well be a frequent contributor, looked to be in control of what she was doing. No deer in the eyes look. She understands the speed of the game. Hargrove isn't afraid to mix it up. She just needs more time to learn her roll. Prince will be a great floor general. We had a ton of steals. A good sign. All in all we started the season well. Watched a replay. Sure was nice to see Weidner give it a go finally. Good for her. Good stuff.1 point

Rather uninspired performance, especially in the 1st half. Could have used Sam's energy, and hopefully Morgan will also have some of that fire. Also, a big thumbs down to the uniforms. They are see through, as in you can see under the shorts where the shirts end. I hope they get lost in the wash tonight.1 point -

A lot to like, and yes, a few concerns. I really like Rollie running the point. He looks sooo natural. Still concerned with his perimeter shot. Brice and Juwan looked good. You can tell those two, along with Rollie are leaders. Meah is limited, yet what he does, he does well. We do not look like a quick team. We occupy space and look comfortable playing physical. I think the following is a good thing...our parts are interchangeable. If our players remain selfless, we can be good.1 point -

2024-2025 HHCC Scoring and Rules
basketballjones reacted to HuskerFever for a topic
Can you believe it? Basketball season is almost here! HUSKER HOOPS CENTRAL CHALLENGE IS BACK! If you're unfamiliar with Husker Hoops Central Challenge (HHCC), no need to worry. Just join. It's that easy. And if you didn't get a prediction in from the start of the season, don't fret. Just join. There's still many opportunities to climb up the leader board. And more importantly, gain bragging rights by outsmarting our celebrity college basketball statisticians. Just make a prediction for each game. It's that easy. The more participation we have, the more fun it becomes. So you're a big part of the success of HHCC this season. The rules remain the same as last year. We will continue to have opportunities to earn bonus points throughout the season. Last year's Top 10 finishers were: 1 aphilso1 2 UnicamMan 3 BjoeHusker 4 Nebrasketball1979 5 Vinny 6 AuroranHusker 7 hhcmatt 8 Crush78 9 nuhusker7 10 demone *11 KenPom *17 Bart Torvick Another successful season keeping Ken and Bart out of the Top 10 standings. We need to continue that trend and show these experts that we know more about our team than they do. Now that we're all on the same page, let's go out there and make some predictions! Game on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HHCC SCORING AND RULES If you want to be part of the HHCC, all you need to do is guess the score of each game. Participants with at least one entry will be included in the overall standings. There will be a thread available following the completion of the previous game. Scoring is based on how close you were to each team's actual point total and the margin of victory. HHCC GAME SCORING: The object of the game is to have the lowest accumulated points at the end of the year. Scoring is taken from three variables (margin of victory, actual score, correct game winner); with possible bonus points. Margin of Victory: This is how many points either team wins by. Scoring: Difference between Actual MoV (Husker score & Opponent score) Predicted MoV (Predicted Husker score & Predicted Opponent score). This is then multiplied by 2. Bonus: There is a -5 bonus for correctly predicting margin of victory. To get the bonus two things must happen. 1. Your margin of victory must match the actual margin of victory. 2. You picked the correct winner. EXAMPLE Prediction: NU 79 Opponent 72 Actual: NU 72 Opponent 62 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (Actual (72 62) = 10 - Predicted (79-72) = 7) = 3 * 2 = 6 MoV = 6 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Actual Score: This is the final point totals of both teams. Scoring: (Predicted Husker score vs. Actual Husker score) + (Predicted Opponent score Actual Opponent score) Bonus: There is a -5 bonus for correctly predicting either the Huskers score or the opponents. EXAMPLE Prediction: NU 79 Opponent 72 Actual: NU 72 Opponent 62 ------------------------------------------ (79 72) + (62 72) 7 + 10 = 17 ------------------------------------------ Game Winner: Picking the correct winner. Scoring: Zero points for correct winner. 20 point penalty for incorrect choice. The final score for this game would be 23. Correctly predicting the actual game score nets all -5 bonuses and a -25 bonus, for a best possible score of -40. Missed Game: Your score for missing a game is (the highest score of picked games + 25 points). End of year: Your highest score will be subtracted from your final point total. No Games Missed equals a -25 bonus to your final score. HHCC RULES: All new HHCC game threads will be posted following the previous game. The first game will be up after the last exhibition game. Post your prediction in the HHCC thread. All predictions must be in by the scheduled tipoff time (noted in the thread's title). Any corrections to your prediction should be done in the HHCC game thread. If you are unable to edit your score, just quote your previous score and post the new score underneath. All score updates will be posted throughout the season.1 point -
