  1. I am more confident in our team than before this game. We are very decent. I hope the coaches don’t change a thing on defense. We played good defense. They made everything. It happens. Hopefully guys having to take on a bigger role will make our offense better when we have the full team. We can certainly beat that Indiana team our fair share. I think we can beat this Purdue team as well.

  2. Tough night. Hungry opponent, hangover from Sunday, point guard puking up his guts. Flush it, regroup and take a swing a Purdue.

  3. karl that rationale is backwards i believe re: better recruits not wanting to come. We could lose a very elite kid now and then because they want to play 38-40 min but the teams that only play 6-7 kids are more apt to have smaller rosters or higher turnover because 7-8 aren't playing at all and leave. I do believe the playing time issue gets used against us by some schools that play less kids with recruting the "elite" kids. However, we have been more willing to play kids 30 plus minutes the last couple of years. It also allows us to avoid quite as severe of graduation and injury dips as places that only play 7-8 kids because the subs have real experience. Injuries has been the biggest issue on smaller rosters, and then Sam's class was just bizzare stuff. One left to return home for boyfriend and one left to play NAIA and volleyball for her hs coach who took an NAIA job even though she was a starter and played a ton. Womens bball is harder to keep players happy then mens. Boys have always had a crowded fish bowl and they grow late in hs often so they always have to claw their way up. Girls (and worse girls parents) don't handle not playing much well because they were all full grown by 9th grade and fishbowl is small. There are very few late bloomers. Most college girls bball players started 4 years of hs or at least 3 and most were all state at least 3. Plus with mens practice squads kids 10-15 often don't even get many reps in practice. At least boys 10-15 on a mens team get full intensity practice all the time. Some womens teams will only take 12-13 on their roster just because of moral issues for the reasons stated above. However, big football schools usually have 15. I believe they get more pressure to have a full roster form AD dept. because of title 9 issues. Mid majors with d1aa football or no football tend to have smaller rosters on avergage. Just my two cents.

  4. How did our roster get this depleted? We cannot sustain our performance with 8 players. Bourne in a sling has to be concerning. Good thing we play Samford next. We have to get a full squad of scholarship players and add walk-ons. Tonight, we shot lights out and moved the ball well offensively. When we shoot like tonight we will be a tough out.

  5. Yes sir! Outside of my renewed blind optimism going into last night I was interested to see how we handled IU to confirm CU wasn't a random fluky game. And last night did nothing but add to my blind optimism. The confirmation I got was we can play with everyone in this league. Now its gonna take all hands on deck. We can't afford to lose nearly any player. But if our starting 5 is available we can beat anybody on any given night.

  6. You should have read my gamer because the sort of game we play sets us up for Jimmy Roleplayer to get hot against us

  7. I'm expecting Indiana to throw up shot from half court blind folded backwards through the legs on the bounce and it will go in.

  8. 4 days ago it was an almost guarantee that we go 0-2 for two road games against two (at the time) top ten teams. while frustrating to watch right now, I’d have taken my chances at winning the lottery over us winning both of these games. Not a season killer at all. Hopefully we can get it close enough that the casual fan is still excited for Saturday.

  9. Personally, I believe they called a foul there on Dawson because "we can't call three charges in a row" which is just as crappy as your scenario.

  11. Bandoumel has been great as of late but those were 2 colossally careless plays to squash any momentum going into half. Amazing how much losing one player and forcing others to take rolls they aren’t used to impacts our team.

  12. Hmmm. Are you my son? It is sort of a last century term. At a recent gathering, I turned to one of my family members and asked "what sayeth you?" And everyone sort of freaked out. Yup, I am getting a bit long in the tooth...we'd better win an NCAA game pretty soon or I won't see it

  13. All things considered (win hangover, no Sam, on the road), I was pretty happy with how last night went. Didn't come out with the juice and energy we needed to start the game, and DWalk got a little ahead of himself and forgot what a real defensive big looked like. But he adjusted, we adjusted, and I was very happy with their fight and resolve. A couple calls go our way, and a couple ridiculous 3's from them don't go in and that's a different game.

  14. Like we have discussed before...we have maybe more depth than quite a while. Have a full squad that can play and be competitive! We shot 50% using everyone on the bench ...no small feat ! There were days in the past, if we were short so many players... we might struggle. Whisky isn't a force right now, but they're getting better, and have a bunch of new kids. Their center gets another year or two experience, and she'll become a problem for other teams. Jazz of course had a little affect on the game. I'll take her scoring over assists any day. Issie is must on the floor...recover fast please. The "team" did it again.

  15. Without Griesel, we needed Indiana to help us a bit. Them making 11 threes and shooting 53% from the field was the opposite of that. Our effort was there, which was nice, as it would've been easy to cash it in after the terrible start. Flush it and hope for a full team Saturday.

  17. The next time Dawson takes a charge it is a block. Only because Dawson is a Freshman and Jackson is Big 10 Preseason POY.

  18. Guess that's all they need! (at least tonight) Good Production from everyone. All eight players Scored, and 6 had at least one Trey!!! Kendall Coley with 6 pts & 26 mins (is that a career high?) Hake with 3 pts (trey) and 9 mins. Good Job Everyone!!!

  21. We are doing what we are probably designed to do defense. Kopp has made 7 shots from inside 3 in 8 games. Tonight, he has 4 alone. Galloway and Thompson came into the game 4 - 23 from 3. Tonight, they are 3 - 4. There's not much we can do if the role players are going off on us.

  24. I actually applaud Shang Ping for his toughness. During a summer league game he and Joe Dabbert got into it and I was loving every moment. That’s also the game that Ricky Thenarse and Larry Asante challenged Chad Millard to a fight in the parking lot after Chad was jawing too much with Sek Henry. Aww, the good ole summer league days. The one time I got to see Robert Sallie fly in the air and hammer dunk Pierce Hibma…

  27. Bergen Reilly is coming in January and she’s very good. She set for the senior national team last summer after the setter had Covid. But I do hope they find an experienced setter in the portal, just in case.

  28. We are only two scholarships short, but are long on absences. Right now Miss Haiby, Miss Dillard, Miss Bourne, Miss Brady and Miss Mendelsen are unavailable. I haven't seen enough of three of them to have an idea about what we are missing, but with Sam and Issie I know a quick return is definitely desired. They have intangibles we need and need back soon.

  29. Wilcher is starting to look more like a guy finding shots inside the arc as part of the offense instead of trying to only dribble-drive when someone closes on him

  30. There was one instance in the early second half when Bandoumel closed out hard on a 3 point shooter and ran him off line and still recovered on that player to prevent him from compromising our defense. You just do not see that type of play. If he could improve his 3 point stroke drastically he could be a 3 and D NBA player. His defense is NBA level for sure.

  33. If you would have told me Johnson and Kopp was 1 - 8 from 3, and Jackson-Davis had 12 points, I would have thought we had a great chance to win and never imagined losing by 16.

  45. While I’d obviously love to win tonight, it’s gonna take a Herculean effort. But I really hope Sam is back for Saturday. Hopefully we can get a rocking crowd and then anything can happen.

  46. Completely agree. I’ve felt all along they could be a competitive team. But the Creighton win has thrown the casual fan’s thoughts out of whack (as did the SJU and OU games) [emoji23]

  47. I can already see/hear it... 17:35 left in the first half... Announcer: "Annnnd Race Thompson hits ANOTHER ONE! He had 2 threes coming into tonight and he's got three already this game. He's up to 9 points."

  48. Agree Coley is suited for the three. She has a nice shot but I think her confidence in that shot is missing. Plus she can be a little feisty on defense. She just needs more time on the court. Sadly not sure she is going to see more than what she gets now. Then mostly as a 4.

  49. Agree with post ! Been looking forward to that day since Mendelson committed. What a combination banging the boards. 6-5 and 6-3 To play one, then sub for the other would be a waste of what they could offer as a team....or am I hallucinating again. Looking farther down the road.... it could change our offensive scheme. (I would play with it anyway...but Williams ain't my name) Fun to think about. Sam and Mendelson playing ....may take a few games to get up to B1G speed...the sooner the better.
