  1. Due to Groce incompetence?

  2. I've been as concerned as anyone by Tai's lack of production since he arrived in Lincoln. But he's a great kid who has worked hard, plays great defense and now his offensive game is really coming around. I love how his penetration/inside game has developed through the course of this season and his 3 ball is beginning to drop. Here's a big shout out to Tai Webster!

  3. Dare I say we are becoming a prolific scoring team. We are averaging 74.6 ppg after 19 games. I compared that to other NU teams after 19 games, and this is the highest scoring team since the 1995-96 team averaged 86.4. And this is the first time we are averaging over 70 at this point in the season since 2001.

  4. I hope the 100 or so Red Zoners that went to the game had a great time.

  5. Another solid road win. I remember when people were saying this team might only win 4 or 5 conference games all season and now they have won three in a row. This win was definitely a more satisfying win the other two. But the game I really want to focus on is @ Michigan State on Wednesday. Huskers have won the last two against MSU. Obviously this will be the most challenging. My thoughts: - Watson got us going and hit a couple shots later in the game when Illinois was trying to make a run. He definitely played with a little extra today - If we can get Morrow to have these kind of games for most of the season we will do well. - After all the criticism Tai has received in his NU career (some of it deserved) it is so satisfying watching him this season - If you tell me Shavon is struggling and White doesn't get his first basket until the end of the first half, there is absolutely no way I think we are leading by 9 points on the road at halftime. - I thought McVeigh and Jacobsen played well for the most part today I missed most of the first half and saw all of the second half. I loved how we answered every Illinois run. It is exciting watching this team grow as individuals and a team. Just try to not get too high or too low. Hoping for a HUGE win on Wednesday. Go Big Red!!!

  6. Miles - "Benny was sicker than crap". Quite a tribute when you think of his 1st half dive for the loose ball underneath the basket.

  7. I like not having to put up with the trolls. Any way I seen the last half like what I seen in the fact that when the huskers were punched in the mouth they punched the chin and won the game.

  8. It's so weird when the team you root for has a 10 point lead

  9. I love how we get punched once and we then go on to punch them 2 or 3 times.

  10. We have a great chance if we can hold them to 25 points again.

  11. I'm ok with RB43... I'm just giving you guys the "Inside Baseball" story of a nickname... She likes Burns. I'm not sure why she dislikes being called RB. I think it sounds good. Last weekend, after the game, she commented... "The other day at practice Coach Yori even called me Burns... It was the first time." Coach usually calls her RB. Whatever... The team just needs to beat Rutgers. See you there.

  13. Nebraska Cornhuskers (10-8) vs Illinois Fighting Illini (9-8) Date: Saturday, Jan 16th, 2016 Time: 1:30 p.m. CST Arena: State Farm Center Broadcast Information Television: BTN Online: BTN2GO Announcers: Jeff Levering and Shon Morris Play-by-play: Kent Pavelka Expert Analysis: Matt Davison Illinois Scouting Thread Illinois Info Head Coach: John Groce Location: Champaign-Urbana, IL Conference: B1G 10 Nickname: Fighting Illini Last time out: Beat Purdue Typical Rotation Depth: 7-8 players Opening Line: Illinois by 3.5 Fun Fact : The last time Illinois had a week to prepare for Nebraska at home they were the only team to beat Nebraska in their last 9 games of the magical 2013-14 season Player to watch - Malcolm Hill The more I look at the 6'6" Jr's numbers, the more I see Terran Petteway. Hill is a volume scorer...not super efficient but he's the guy who can score when they need it. He's a so-so 3pt shooter but good enough. He gets to the FT line a lot. There are too many good shooters for Illinois to stop him without them killing you...it's really about containment. Player to watch - Kendrick Nunn Nunn is more like pairing White with Petteway than Shields if we're going to follow along with our Hill comparison as Nunn can just flat shoot, hitting 42.9% from 3 and 54.7% from 2. His biggest problem has been staying on the court, much like a lot of his teammates, as he's missed 6 games this year. The Skinny With the exception of last year's trainwreck, Tim Miles teams improve over the course of the year and this team is no exception. Sure they should have beaten Rutgers and Minnesota. Absolutely demolished them? That's impressive and is a nice sign to see from a team about to face a gauntlet of 5 rough games starting with a hobbled Illinois team on the road. Much like Nebraska, Illinois has little inside presence with the loss of senior transfer Mike Thome and forward Leron Black, leaving only redshirt freshman Michael Finke and Maverick Morgan at their 5 spot. Thus, the team is more about Hill creating and the rest of his teammates like Finke, frosh SG Jalen Coleman-Lands, and Nunn hitting 40% from 3 if you double anyone. The Illini don't turn the ball over much and cover the defensive boards well. Can the Huskers be even more aggressive on the offensive boards while not being burned by a Illinois team that like to run on offense? Illinois has a chance to win this one at the FT line but other than Hill it's not their game. To me, this game all comes down to who makes the most 3s. While Nebraska has defended that shot more effectively than Illinois this year, I'll have to take the home team in this one. In what should be a close and competitive game, let's home Nebraska does figure out a way. Prediction: Illinois 71 - Nebraska 67 Click here to view the article

  14. He iced the game today. First with the drive that was goaltended and then hitting his free throws. Before that I was thinking, "man he has really come along" after seeing his dunk after being fouled on the floor. He made that one hander look easy.

  15. Groce should have recruited Tre'Shawn Thurman. And Tra-Deon Hollins. Tell me who from Illinois would be starting for UNO. Anyone?

  17. That was as good of a victory on the road as any. Nebraska had not won at Illinois since 1921, granted NU & the Illini have only been conference mates for 5 years, now. Wish I could have made that trip, epic win by Huskers to go to 3-3 in the league with a 3rd straight double-digit victory in the league. Lovin' it~! GBR

    Illinois Pregame talk

I don't want to sound too cocky or anything, but that game was never really in question. But then again, any halfway decent team is going to be pretty much expected to win on the road against 1-5 teams.

  19. I disagree a bit. We picked a couple road wins against .500 or worse teams. We lost 2 at home we could have won. If we wanted to finished above .500 in league we should be 5-1. Our remaining schedule is brutal. Not really. Four of the next five are brutal, but after that, there's a bunch of games where we're right in the mix.

  20. This was a great win; because it is a road win, because it validates the exponential improvement we've seen, because it is a renewed recruiting ground for us, et al. This was a total team effort. I thought those that played, played well. I cannot think of any negative issues right now. That is great to write, and great to see. That said; Tai, AWIII, Glynn, Shavon and Ed were the five that really seemed to shine. But, Jack, Benny and Michael also played good supplemental roles. Dang nice to see and watch. Shoot, I cannot recall ever being behind other than perhaps once or twice at the beginning of the game.

  21. They always say win the home games and steal a few on the road and you'll be right there come March. We are 6 games in and have a few clunkers at home. We have made that up now with a couple roadies. Keep it going at home and steal a few more roadies and ya never know.

  26. **************Regarding 43: I'm not sure she has college moves for down low yet (as "longtime fan" stated). But since I watch her when she is on the court I have an educated (albeit biased) opinion. Bottom line... She rarely gets the ball down there. I watch her repeatedly post up and no pass is attempted. This usually happens when 32 isn't playing. It frustrating for her because posting up is very hard work. And... There is a very small window for a successful pass to a post player. On a lighter note... Regarding 43's nickname... Theriot is the team's Rachel. My Rachel hates being called RB. She likes being called Burns. That's what her teammates call her. Just FYI. Both Jess and Rachel B (Burns) are freshman, and the scope of their game's will change over time. Jess gets the ball now simply because of her known reputation as as scorer, before she ever got here. RB43 just may not be in the same place offensively currently.....so what ....is my response to that. Burns will score more in time. I can see that she has many good offensive skills now. She will learn to build on it. That's what summers are for.....learn to become better players. She's very valuable, in many ways, to the team no matter how many points she scores each game. You can also tell the team really likes her as a team mate. If you had Jess's offensive skills and Burns's defensive skills in one player you would have NU's version of superwoman. Jess will learn to play better defense, and Rachel B will get better at offense. They are freshman! .....and this is just their beginning. Imagine how good a combination they'll be when their Jrs and Srs. and playing together full time. Could well be our best inside combo ever. Are you sure "Burns" is OK with Rachel ?

  28. Coming off of the bench has been a boon for Tai. Aggressiveness was been a major key to Webster stepping up as of late (that Iowa game was a thing of beauty for #0). Overall, it is great news for Nebrasketball & its rotation being firmed up these past several games in the B1G. Same 'boon' could be said of Glynn Watson lately as his role as a starter stepping up big-time. Webster's and Watson's aggressiveness is a key for both of them.

  41. Some striv announcing is awesome. Some schools get the students involved as a learning experience and it goes off the rails. That would be one thing I would like to see Tony. A suggestion area for the schools. Those students could learn with some good feedback. Either way, the ability to watch a bunch of high school football games for multiple teams that I care about is incredible.

  42. Enjoyed watching the HS game tonight. Chang is a Shooter for sure - draining 3s like clockwork, how many tonight - 7 or 8? Showed some moves, got some blocks and a lot of rebounds; but then again, when you tower over the opposition! Sure would like to see the Omaha-South, Papillion-La Vista game with Chang & Arop, but I don't believe either HS has signed-up for Striv.

  44. I have total admiration for Coach Yori's willingness to discipline players. There are expectations that must be met and their is a consequence when those expectations are not met. My comments are based on one game seen in perosn (Arkansas St., and what I have witnessed on TV or listened on the radio) 1. Defense, rebounding and turnovers are all issues. 2. We lack the size, strength and quickness of many of our conference foes. (we have height, but not the size and strength) 3. Team has not folded the tent and will compete. 4. If the RT of old returns to form or near form, NU will be competitive. 5. A finish in the middle of the pack would not be a bad achievement. There are no easy wins in the league. Indiana has been a surprise and Michigan St. seems to be an enigma.

  46. Here's the image I was thinking he was painting and, like I said above, it's when I saw him start to do the hair that I realized it was Pike:

  47. I think there's a photo of Pike with his head turned like that. As soon as he started painting the hair I knew it was Piatkowski. Then I saw Pike standing there and it was clear. But I recognized Pike in the image before the painting was even done. So I, for one, would say I think the picture looks like him.
