  1. +1 to all of this Ditto! The BIG is down and we still can't finish in the top 5? For those that feel recruiting has improved since Doc was fired, I just don't see it. Miles should be given credit getting some good transfers, mainly Petteway 2-3 years ago. IMO he was the main reason we made the NCAA tournament, but he was also responsible for us not playing as a team at times. All that is in the past and I don't see us getting much better. Really, it seems fairly apparent to me that the raw talent is better than it's been in a long time. Just hasn't come together yet. Also, Petteway wasn't the reason things went south last year.

  2. Sub Kansas for A&M and that's exactly what the blue doofuses up the road said about Andrew White. I'm pretty satisfied with what AW3 has brought to the table for us so far.

  3. Also keep in mind he was injured and lost out on time and reps and got behind before the season began. He's got pretty good size and athleticism, but the guy he's battling against for PT has even better size and athleticism. But that guy isn't transferring; this guy is. So, if we can't get the #28 recruit in the nation because he's getting playing time and not transferring, I guess I'd settle for the #29 recruit in the nation who isn't getting playing time and is transferring.

  4. I grew up out of state, in the era before streaming games over the internet was possible. Every game I would listen to a very static radio feed from beginning to end regardless of the product on the floor. The once or twice a year when I could actually see a game on TV was usually an ass kicking against a Kansas type team. Even though I've lived in Lincoln for 15+ years now, it still feels like a privilege to be able to watch the team I love in person. Most of us have lived through the best and worst of Nebrasketball. We've battled the elements when parking in the North Bottoms to walk around the moat that protected the Devaney Center. We now have a state of the art arena with the amazing Rail Yard to entertain us before and after the games. Recruiting has picked up. Why jump off the wagon now, after all these years?

  5. I've had season tickets since Coach Iba was here (1982-83) and have held them ever since, enjoy going when I can and when I can't I either give the tickets to my son or just list them on StubHub and usually they sell. I also park right across the street in Red 1 which is nice because I don't even take my coat into the arena. Also just paid my donation for 2016 so I'll be there for 2016-17 at least. I don't plan on giving up my tickets.

  6. Just think how good this year's team would be with Terran. Having him and White on the same team with Shields being your 3 option to score, we'd be a pretty solid bunch. Without Terran and reaching the NCAA tournament, we wouldn't able to recruit all the 4 star kids that have committed here. He has had a huge impact on NU basketball.

  7. Disagree. We had horrible attendance from roughly 2000 to 2012. Less than 5000 for some. Went from huge crowds in the 80s and sold out season tickets in the 90s to 4 figure crowds for conference games in the 2000s. Whether the fans support us like we did Saturday, or whether there is a fan boycott, the challenges facing our basketball program will be here. I won't be convinced that "positivity" will ever be a curse.

  8. A curse? I don't get it. if our fans were worse and more negative, we would be better on the court? WTF? Not trying to speak for DOATHLON, and I may be way off-base, but I interpreted that to mean that he thought it was a curse in the sense that there would be a group of hard-core fans offering support regardless of how Bad the BB Team and record was. In other words, why should the team endeavor to improve (or school administration provide additional resources/program support) as long as a modicum of fans would buy tickets/show up regardless of team performance.

  9. On my death bed I will remember Terran hitting that 3 and the place going bonkers. That will be the sound I will hear as the Angels (I hope) take me home.

  10. Hear! Hear! I post on another board (football - Auroran ) and I am always surprised at how much animosity there continues to be toward Terran (you know what I mean!). To hear them talk you'd think they regret that Petteway even ever wore a Husker uniform. To me, Terran is just a part of the 'magic in a bottle' the team captured to make our run to the NCAA ; But, without him we never even sniff the Tournament! It seems almost to be like: how dare he arrive on the scene and get our (fans) hopes up 'only to be dashed' once again, seemingly perennially, 'on the shoals' (at the bottom of the league).

  11. Original poster here. Very surprised by the positivity despite the lack of on court success. That positivity is a blessing and a curse to this program. It's probably why it's been so mediocre for its entire existence. If a coach ever consistently wins at Nebraska it will become one of the best jobs in the country because the fan support is incredible. That support is why I'll most likely keep my tickets. It's frustrating at the moment, but that game vs Wisconsin 2 years ago is the best live sporting experience I have ever been a part of. I would hate to miss out on that when it happens again.

  12. I’m with Red Don… We have to come back. However, turnovers are often directly related to the decision making process, and fixing poor decision making can be a difficult task. I’m not sure the comeback begins on Thursday. I hope so… I plan on being in College Park to watch. Regarding whoopdeedoo’s leadership article. It’s a nice read. I try to only comment on my girl. I’m not sure who the leaders are on the team. I know my girl says she is sometimes reluctant to say things in practice or in meetings due to being a freshman. That will not be the case next year. On the court she has yelled at mates for not getting on the floor for a loose ball. I’d agree with most of the premise: "...Leaders are made not born... People can become leaders through the process of teaching, learning, and observation. Leadership is a set of skills that can be learned by training, perception, practice, and experience..." Setting an example is also important. The old saying of... "If you're going to talk the talk, you need to walk the talk." is how good leaders live. I do believe that a person is born with that “it” factor (charisma).

  13. was expecting tim miles 7pm show for some reason (should have known traveling), but, had matt and the coach on. didn't really learn too much. she stated her and the coaches need to do a better job. stressing good, hard practices, but, also knowing a limit to not wear down the players. believes the injuries and illness have slowed down progress----and, of course, the obvious, youth. the simon/clark reference came up briefly. may be reading a little too much into what little was said, but, get the feeling as soon as simon can go, may see clark's minutes diminish. was a nice havers-matt interview. discussed a bit on how she embraces being a role model for kids. talked about how she has put on weight through strength conditioning. enjoys photography and hopes to pursue that.

  14. College road trip to Iowa City for my son tonight. I doubt they give him a bobblehead since he'll be wearing red. Not sure what he and his buddies were thinking when they decided to go to this game, but that isn't the age for great thinking. Hope it's a decent game.

  17. I asked Brian R with the LJS about this in one of is chat sessions and he kind of said the same thing when he responded that retirement isn't the correct word.

  18. I fractured my leg and tore two ligaments my freshman year of college football, i played the next at half the player i was, and was rightfully buried on depth chart..after the season i chose to "retire from the game" to drink heavily and spot fully attend class.

I won't be convinced that "positivity" will ever be a curse. There's some research out there -- I found it once and posted it here several years ago and Coach Miles has mentioned it as well -- that shows that home crowd support begets success more than success begets home crowd support. So ... If that research is correct, Doathlon is completely wrong. We have to have the strong crowd support to build a winner. And if you want the Huskers to ever be a consistent winner, you'd better be talking people into keeping and buying season tickets rather than giving them up over a disappointing several games this past couple of seasons. Here is the case in point (at KU though):

  20. As for Simon and Clark I would rather invest playing time in a true freshmen with a great up side then an inconsistent 5th year senior. Even though you may get more freshman type mistakes from Simon I think her size, athleticism, attitude and positive learning curve will pay off in the long run.

  21. Actually, I miss those games vs KU and OU. The ol' Big 8 was the best. It was an epic night, kinda wish I could have been there for it last night in Lawrence.

  23. Luckily we have Rutgers/Minnesota coming up if we can't pull out the unlikely victory tonight. Have to think we can find a way to get back in the W column soon...right? Rutgers on the road won't be an easy out regardless of how bad they are though you gotta think we grit through and win. I just don't see this team falling apart like last year

Seems like a good majority of the Cubs fandom over the past century.

  25. Even if he isn't the savior right away, he would keep the "big" man grumblings at bay for a bit. We have to remember he would be coming in as a RFr next conference season.

  27. I'm not saying he wouldn't help us out, I'm not saying he wouldn't play for us right away. He would. But to everyone saying he would be an immediate stud difference maker, that's throwing huge expectations on the shoulders of a guy who couldn't crack the rotation for A&M

  28. I believe they will come back! We Know what they Can Do; Look no further than the Creighton game. All teams have bad games, now and then, or where they are just not 'on' (such as the California game), especially when several key players are missing or not 100 percent. Serendipity!

  29. Coach should land Luca Brasi as our next assistant. He'd make those recruits an offer they couldn't refuse... But unfortunately, he sleeps with the fishes.

  30. There is no reason we can not compete with Rutgers, Penn State, Minnesota and Illinois for last place this year but we have to win 2 or 3 of the next 4 games to not finish last. Unfortunately losing tends to become accepted or even expected once the losses begin to pile up and we have to win a few of the next ones in order to not do this. I think we can forget about .500 already.

  31. Wow! I'm going to chalk this up to just luck of the draw that we to had to face a ticked-off top twenty five conference member on their home court after they lost their previous outing in which they were the favorite. You just had that uneasy feeling coming in to the game that they were going to be fired up, focused and ready to prove their previous loss shouldn't have happened. And that they were going to take their frustrations out on us. Hope we don't find ourselves in that predicament again for quite some time! Wait.... What........ Mary-... Oh,...crap!...
