The fans from seasons 1900 through the present say you're a wussy.

  2. Is this thread recycled from the Moe Iba era? I believe this attitude is what caused fans to turn against Moe, and to a lesser extent , Doc Sadler. For some reason fair weather fans would rather watch a team lose 120-95 than 50-45. Either way it is a loss, and I hope that the rumblings of discontent do not begin to affect Miles and cause him to lose his enthusiasm for "the best fans in America".

We recycle NCAA, NIT, and CBI threads faster than Rob Lowe recycles his DirecTV commercials. (It's painfully awkward...)

Teams basically only need to guard Pitch & Petteway while letting the others try & get theirs... If coaching against us, I would let those two shoot from behind the arc too. We just don't have shooters. Petteway scores due to the volume of shots taken. This year, (col)coach, you would win. Yet, next year, with the addition of White, Morrow, Watson...and the maturation of Fuller...20 pounds on our centers...a transfer senior...plus the lack of focused pressure on the 2 guys that have been the extreme focus of attention...and we will finally get to the beginning of an era where our players are like zucchinis. How is that for tasty kool-aid? And you know what????... I am a hoping believer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfuBREMXxts

While a great thought, not real realistic. Win the next one. Rinse. Repeat.

  8. On the bright side our longest losing streak this year is 2, which isn't all that bad. Let's keep it that way.

  10. There has to be a middle ground with foul calls. I don't want to see a game with every little touch foul, but I also don't enjoy teams mugging the other team.

  11. I'm such an idiot! I didn't realize this was on TV! That being said, Illinois drops another game. White fouled out with more than 10 minutes to go. Northwestern clobbers Minnie. Iowa up by 1 at half at Maryland.

  16. ATM this is the worst we've been on offense since the 02-03 Collier team. All of Doc's teams were slow but he did typically run an efficient enough offense....which obviously wasn't fun to watch. I found the styles we have run under Miles to at least be more entertaining than the obvious clock runs of Doc but this is 2 out of 3 years that we've run slow. We're bringing in some firepower next year and should have our deepest team yet. Miles has a history of moving faster than this so we'll see. No one likes watching slow losing basketball.

  18. I don't see how having high expectations is a problem for the fanbase. Sure, it should be realistic but I wouldn't have it any other way. This is team should have never lost to terrible teams like Incarnate Word and Creighton. Those games should have been gimmes. Win those two and we are sitting at 14-7 rather than 12-9. That's a big difference. But, you could tell right from the first exhibition game something was off. And while we have improved. It hasn't been enough. My expectations next year like this year will be to make it to the dance. I think that's pretty fair from a roster standpoint.

I think they should outlaw the zone defense against us the way they used to do in the NBA. If they did we might be competitive in all of our remaining games.

  20. This is the problem. Combine poor shooting with limited offensive rebounding and no transition offense and every basket becomes crucial, every turnover huge and every missed free-throw devastating.

You'd think the small, private academics driven school in the conference would be smart enough to do that.

  24. I know people have said the effort was good, but I disagree. While we worked hard defensively, we didn't compete at all offensively. That's not scouting the box score or simply looking at point totals, but we have no fight on offense. We had no clue how to attack, and we were incredibly soft with the basketball. I'm at a loss right now. I can't believe how awful we look offensively, and it goes beyond making open jump shots. We make dumb passes. We run the clock down with passive passing around the 3-point line. We're soft with the ball when dribbling to the middle of the defense. It's just awful to watch.

  26. I'm hoping this is just a case of 2 steps forward 1 step back as it pertains to the bigger picture for this program. I guess it naive for me to think we would be on a steady rise from last year going forward.

  27. I love Shavon, he's about the best kid you'll ever meet. Tremendous guy. But he needs a shot of confidence like every three minutes to remind himself of how good he could be but his brain holds him back.

  28. Well this really has gone very well. I do believe that Shavon needs to sit for bit. And where is Kidney to set up a zone offense for us?

  29. I am betting that the team is more frustrated then me right now. We look completely out of sorts. We are rushing to know where if you know what I mean. I am still hopeful.

  30. our zone offense: rivers takes up space in the paint so nobody can drive to the hoop benny stands in the corner shields and petteway take turns shooting at the top of the key pitchford just kind floats around and takes fadeway jump shots. I thought you were making a haiku after reading your first few lines.

  33. Problem with the fans or with the team? Number one for the fans would be expectations. People got way too pumped up about the somewhat aberrant year we had last year. An excellent case could be made for putting NU basketball fans as number one losers for a supposed power in major men's athletics. Even the Cubs, the benchmark for sports futility, won two World Series at the turn of last century and were in the Series as late as 1945. We've never even won...oh, you know. Number one for the players is that we are not good rebounders or shooters. This is a deadly combination for any Div I team and is being exploited by every team we play now.
