I ended last season with the same topic and the same title (or close to it).

Yeah, it absolutely stinks that the season ended the way it did in the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments, but we all agree that there is so much for us to be proud of and excited about for the future.

This is just the beginning.

Most of us would have been thrilled with an NIT berth. Many of us gave up on the Huskers early in the Big Ten season, and a few more after our loss at Illinois. It says a lot about Miles, his staff and this team that they were able to band together to make this run to the tournament.

Yeah, the season has ended, but again, this is only the beginning.

Go. Big. Red.

Yep...the foundation has been built.  We are missing some very important cogs to our machine...so now we have to surprise some people with our recruiting.

I am thrilled with where this program is in just year 2 and Miles has hit homeruns with his transfers in year 1.  But if I have any concern/disappointment going forward, it is with this years (2014) recruiting class as it stands right now.  I am still hoping for at least 1 or 2 more home run recruits/transfer to bring this thing in the late stretch.  From everything I have been hearing, Hamond is at least 2-3 years away from being big enough and physical enough to play in the B1G, and I don't think the Smith kid will come in and play anytime soon either.  We have some holes that need to be filled, and if we have to wait 2-3 years for all these guys, then by then Petteway, Shields and Pitchford will all be gone and we will be starting over.

Anyway, not trying to go overboard with this, but I just would like to see a few difference (who can make an immediate impact) makers sign on the line in April.

I hear what you're laying out there NUdiehard. I'd be satisfied with a 'big' Senior transfer & a shooter/scorer that could be groomed to be a star behind Terran next year. I don't mind the supporting roles that Tarin Smith & Jacob Hammond will likely play for the team. For Nebraska, it's good to recruit guys who can develop over the course of their careers; now, if we were Kansas, then that doesn't cut it. We're not Kansas yet. But, it's a B1G goal to get that good!! :)

This is going to be a very long off-season, IMO.  The bad taste from the final two games is going to be there for awhile.  Hopefully that bad taste will motivate the team to work hard in the off-season in order to erase that memory.  But, as a fan, this is going to sting for a while.

Slow clap for the Huskers for yet again WAY exceeding any sane person's preseason expectations. This is going to continue to be a great team to follow as they progress.

And also a BIG slow clap for Husker nation for showing in force in San Antonio this weekend. Folks, there is a good reason why all the players repeatedly talk about you and I as being among the greatest fans anywhere. Even in a loss in as ugly a game as today's was won't dampen my enthusiasm for this team and the big things I think they can still accomplish.

To that end, I really hope after a few days go by we can all take a moment to sit and reflect on what an amazing ride it's been. I know I will be.

It does sting.  So much excitement this week.  Now - just silence.

I think there's some interesting things to follow in the off-season though:

*  How much of an impact does this year's success show up in recruiting?

*  How do Smith, Hammond, Fuller and Hawkins look when we play those games overseas?  It's a good time to do some experimenting with the rotation.

By the way, does anyone know anything about when/where we will be going?

I won't lie, this perhaps has been in the top ten of my worst weeks of my life.  I won't go into details, but I was hoping that today would be the start of a more positive week...but nope...the nightmare continues.

I've worked 33 straight days.  I was excited by this run.  Made the daily grind more bearable.  Now, it's over.  Not much else to look forward to.  I am a huge baseball fan, but the BTN is horrible for baseball game coverage.  It's why it will continue to be one of the worst conferences in the country.

I'm wondering the following this off-season:

1. Will Serj be back?

2. Will Hawkins be back?

3. What transfer(s) will we get?

4. We will get Deng Deng?

5. How good will Nick Fuller be? Remember, he's essentially a newcomer next year to go along with Hammond and Smith, too.

The fact that he was considering transferring at semester to be with his girlfriend and that Texas A&M has (supposedly) had an open offer to him. Of course that was also a few months ago and a lot changes in that period of time, especially for an 18 year old kid.

Cheers for exceeding anyone and EVERYONE'S expectations.

Today sucked, but no one should hang their head about this season.

I'll be slow clapping til November.  I'm shocked and amazed at this season, but I demand more come next March.

Not frustrated....just bummed. We had zero business dancing but we found a way. Extremely bummed but life goes on

This is what I was going to say. Bummed but happy we will get better and it is going to be so much fun.

I really think the freshman this year will break out next year. Nate has a scorers mentality. Him and Fuller will lead a bench group that will be able to score a lot. Maybe not defend as well as you would like, but those two can stroke. Nicks shots almost never hit rim. I'm so excited for him next year.

It's a little early, obviously, but if you can put a distributer like Tarin Smith or Benny on the floor with Nate and Nick spacing the floor, that offense is deadly. You could put Tai in there to slash too.

A 5 man would really solidify this team. I don't even care if he can do a hook shot. If he can protect the rim and get around 7 offense or defensive boards a game, this team will be right back here next March.

Heck I'm even excited for Tim Wagner in the future. The dude averaged 25 a game in high school. Maybe by the time he graduates he can be a player like Spike Albrecht at Michigan.

I don't know, I'm just really excited about the direction of this program.

Rather than blind optimism, you can actually see this basketball team "turning the corner."

As someone who predicted before the season started that we would win 13 games, I think this year was quite successful and began to lay the foundation for a real basketball tradition here. We have some leaders returning and a coaching staff who seem to be able to get players to buy in to the "team" concept. This bodes well for next year, so let's put our most recent disappointments behind and move forward into baseball season without rancor or angst.

My sentiments EXACTLY

A very respectful slow clap for the men... and an excited fast clap for the women who are still alive!
