hhcdave Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I say "no way" - no offense to Mike, but in the biggest game we've played since the late 90's, and in a "must win" to make the dance, and in a game where you're going to be a 2.5-3.0 point underdog at home, and in a game where 2-3 points could make the difference... Can you afford to play him - at all? Especially at the beginning? Discuss away. Quote
uneblinstu Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Not with as much on the line as there is. Sorry, Mike. Better question is, will Ray start? unl 1 Quote
Sgt Lincoln Osiris Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I also say "no way" and imagine the coaches are on the same page. I'm sure mike would much rather make it to the dance than get a token start. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 The last walk-on to start Senior Night was probably Paul Velander, and he played significant minutes that season. I doubt Peltz starts, unless it's for a brief stint as a gesture by Miles & Co. to honor the hard work in practice of the Peltz #NeBROsketball way. Quote
HuskerBB Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I would start Rey - but not Peltz. Maybe tough to make a distinction but Rey is someone who would get real minutes in any event. Also scholarship player vs. walkon. I don't think we have ever started walkon's just because they were seniors - certainly not ones that were not in the regular rotation. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I hope this is a joke topic. This is the biggest home game in school history. Quote
a0t0w0 Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I gave up Mike Peltz starting for lent. Sorry, bro. colhusker, hhcmatt, 49r and 3 others 6 Quote
MidwestDrummer Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Did all seniors start last year? No, last's years starters on senior day were Ubel, Shields, Rivers, Gallegos and Talley. Nothing personal against Mike, but with so much on the line, he has no business starting on Sunday. You just can't take that chance against a good team. Quote
PimpMario Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Why not start Parker over Webster if we are going to reward hard work. Quote
royalfan Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I would start both of them if I were coaching. Peltz can guard the guys he would need to, and the fans can help rise him up. First dead ball he comes out. Not going to make a big difference in the grand scheme of things and he will be extremely focused for the start of the game. As for Ray a great chance to get him a look to start the proceedings and get a feel for how much to use him. I think the lineup should be Pitchford, Petteway, Shields, Ray, Peltz. Norm Peterson, tcp, hhcmatt and 2 others 5 Quote
royalfan Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 But whatever Miles decides, I am completely on board with. Quote
HuskerFever Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Miles like to give the opponents a 1-2 punch to start the game. Unless he thinks this will do the trick, we're already playing behind. Quote
huskerpower1988 Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 lets play em in the last 2 min when were up 20, they will understand, us always a0t0w0 1 Quote
tcp Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 If the first sniff of big success makes you change who you are for the worse, than the 'success' isn't. If the tradition is to start the seniors, you start the seniors. You can take them out quickly. But you don't let *any* game taint your character. Red Rum 1 Quote

I don't think Miles' tradition is to start the seniors. There's probably a quote out there somewhere to that effect. So not starting the seniors won't be a change or reaction to anything. Quote
hhcdave Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 Didn't Collier used to start EVERYONE and play them until the under 16:00? And Sadler, too? I'm pretty sure Nick Krenk started on senior day - did he not? Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 You have to remember Nebraska hasn't really had much to play for on senior night in a long long time. Mike will be happy cheering on the team from the sidelines. Quote

Silverbacked1 Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Senior day will be pregame correct? Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Senior day will be pregame correct? Pretty sure that's the case. Quote
doc1394 Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Senior day will be pregame correct? Pretty sure that's the case. Halftime is what I heard today. But that seems weird to me Quote
longtimefan Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Start Peltz over Webster. In all reality, you're not losing any points by starting Peltz because Webster gives you almost zero points for the second half of the season game in and game out. Any Peltz can play defense as good as Webster for a couple of minutes. FredsSlacks 1 Quote
