I noticed a few games back that Pitchford appeared to shoot a free throw right-handed. I had been meaning to look for confirmation of this in recent games, but he hasn't exactly been a regular at the charity stripe.  But then tonight, I saw the same thing.  Seems very odd to me.  Are there any other basketball players that shoot jumpers lefty but FT's righty, or vise versa?

He shoots both right handed

I stand corrected.  Although I'm apparently not the only one to have thought this, as a quick google search for "Walter Pitchford left handed" returned this article where Lee B. also thought he was a southpaw: http://www.omaha.com/article/20130914/HUSKERS/130919099

And interestingly enough, if you grab a freeze frame at the top of his jumper it almost looks like he's chucking it with both hands.  The jumper at around 0:16 to 0:17 of this HS video captures that.

Speaking of Walter, he took Vonleh off the dribble. If he starts doing that consistently, he's gonna be tough to stop, too. He could be a nightmare as his career progresses. We're starting see a bit more of his talent come to the surface.

agree. I'm impressed with Walter's ability to learn new tricks. He's much more athletic than I thought--having a rep as a 6-10 3 pt specialist will do that to you--and he's really done a good job of getting outside of his comfort zone this season. ultimately he may make Billy D regret losing him, which would be a huge plus. We already have A&M crying in their beer over Petteway.

The only reason A&M would cry over him is because he talked his best friend Mike Evans into leaving for the NFL. I bet those folks in Lubbock might cry over him, but not into their beers, it's a dry county.

Most impressive thing about Walter I think is his performance on the boards and on defense the last few games. The boards don't really show up on the box score, it's more working hard getting his butt on somebody and keeping them off the boards. He got caught standing straight up a lot early in the season, and was getting pushed around down low. I'm seeing some resilience and effort now.

Apparently Pitch's awkward motion throws people off... he's definitely right-handed, but the "unique" elbow-tastic action is a bit unorthodox for a right-hander

Elbow-tastic.  that's a good way of describing it.  I'm admittedly no expert but Walter could really stand to work on that technique.  He shoots a flat-arc shot most of the time and so, if he's not right on, he'll clang it hard off the front or the back iron.  He's not going to get a lot of shooter's rolls.  Lot of extra movement in his stroke.  He needs to simplify it, make it a little more compact.

The thing is, for a big guy, he has really good touch.  And if he could fix some of the flaws in his backswing, he'd be a really good shooter, I believe.  But he needs to get rid of some of this Jim Furyk-style action with his jump shot.  He's bringing it far enough inside on the backswing that people think he's left-handed.  Ought to tell ya something.

Great iobservation, and I thought the same thing.  I am sure this wasn't the first time he made this move, but it doesn't happen often.  Hope he can master it over the next two years.

I have never thought Walter was left handed...I still don't see how some thought he was.

That's not to say his shooting form couldn't use some work, but he's never looked left handed to me.

I thought he might be a guy who coasts on his physical ability but he really has been putting in a lot of effort in addition to being just a great teammate in general.  You can really see how invested he is with this team.

I would call Walter our most improved player so far this year.  Really happy with how much meaner he's gotten.  I can't wait for him to take more bigs off the dribble.  The guy has that in his skill set.  Once he's confident, he's going to be a legitimate all around threat.  Hopefully he'll develop a post game to go with it in the coming years.  HUGE upside.

Rewatching the TV broadcast, I thought they said Miles actually was more interested in trying to sign Evans than Petteway when he was recruiting at Colo St.  ;) I'm guessing Coach is OK with how it worked out.

I went absolutely nuts when Walter did that.  Got a lot of strange looks in our section.  They failed to see the deeper meaning.  Can't blame them; it's easier to see 5 beers in.

Anyone know our record when Walter scores the first basket?

We are 7-1 when Walt scores our first point. We are 4-8 when someone other than Walt scores our first point (including 0-4 when it is Gallegos).
