Okay my son is watching the NBA game and I now know another reason I don't like to watch this.

Mouth pieces.  If I want to see some thing slimy sticking out of somebody's mouth and being chewed on, I will go to one of those websites that my wife says I can't go to.

Keep the damn thing in where it will help or don't wear it.

the people who say they hate the nba never really give it a fair chance. if you like watching good basketball you would love this miami/indiana series. has been crazy in terms of intensity/momentum swings.

As someone who has had a very negative opinion of the NBA until recently, I disagree with the idea that it was because it wasn't given a fair chance. For those of us who started watching the NBA in the Erving/Johnson/Bird/Jordan era,the NBA of the Webber, Sprewell, Iverson era just wasn't as good. The league over-expanded, it relied to heavily on players who had little or no college development (in terms of skills and in terms of capturing fans interest in their NCAA time and carrying over to the NBA)

The NBA games I saw in the 2000s were ragged and dull due to an excess of physical play and a lack of fundamentals or team play. The same problem college basketball is now experiencing.

I took a serious look at the NBA this postseason for the first time since 1999 or so, and found some things I really like. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson lighting up scoreboards for GSW, the Pacers and Grizzlies use of a legitimate center and classic point guard, the opportunity to despise the immensely talented Manu Ginobli, the early departure of the Lakers. The return of the fun that had died while watching J.R. Rider and Ben Wallace was resurrected for me by the return of shooters and offense instead of 23.5 seconds of wrassling.

I'll still take Peltz over Lebron though, Peltz has scored more points and won more games in college than King James did :-)

Hey, seaof, have you talked to your mom about the controversy with Julie Hermann being hired as the Rutgers AD?  They were teammates back in the day.  Your mom have any insights?

(Sorry to take this OT, but just wanted to know and thought others would be interested as well.)

Basketball in general will improve IF/WHEN they go back to allowing the artistic and athleticism of the players take precedent over muscle and rule violations.  Call contact fouls, call traveling, simply make the calls that are in violation of the rules of basketball.  There is sooo much talent that is restricted.  Today if someone goes to the basket like Dr. J, someone will knock him on his a#*.  It started with the goons from Detroit, and it permeated the entire game.  Just saying...

My love of soccer is kind of like peoples love of the NBA.

I get people who tell me I'm crazy for liking soccer, but I am hooked.

I don't argue with people because I know that they aren't going to change.

I do ask them to watch a couple of games with me and I try to show them the beauty of the game and most then see it.

I think the same would happen for me if somebody who really "gets" the NBA would show me the beauty of the game I might come around.

Heck I talked 5 of my friends into going with me to Kansas City in October for the USA vs Jamaica for the World Cup qualifier.

Hopefully the WC qualifiers won't be as brutal as the friendly they just played vs. Belgium!

I haven't watched a regular season NBA game in some time.  I've caught a bit of the playoffs this year, though.  Mostly to cheer against the Heat.  Sort of like when I cheered against the Bulls in the 90's.

Yeah not to sure the Jurgen Klinsmann project is working out too well.

It might also have something to do with not having Landycakes on the pitch.

i have actually. she didn't know her very well as Hermann graduated the year before my mom came in (she transferred in from Jefferson College in Missouri). Very uneasy situation up there but she said she was always intense but she couldn't imagine her doing the things they stated she did. not to say she didn't do them but she just didn't come off that way when my mom knew her for that short period.

I understand the arguement of why the NBA is bad to watch but I still am a casual viewer. I do find this Pacer/Heat series to be extra fun to watch. I just don't think it will ever go back to the way it was. They're making their money, why change?

As much as I hate the Heat I want lebron to crush every record that arrogant party boy Michael Jordan set.

I love how Lebron was pretty open about MJ being his idol and MJ responds by bashing LBJ in interviews.

Nba is easily my favorite sport. Level of play and depth of the league easily at an all time high. Those that think it was better back in the old days are badly mistaken. Possibly more fun to watch for some that need offense. But don't mistake more fun to watch for better basketball. Extremely popular sport but not as much in Nebraska as there is no franchise anywhere close.

Badly mistaken is an opinion if I'm not mistake. The Heat are struggling with Hibbert imagine how the Chief & McHale tear them apart. Jabar, Worthy, MacAdoo & even Magic tear them up inside. No way they handle the Admiral & the young Tim Duncon. My opinion which is only an opinion but I don't think this Heat team would have had any chance at a title in the '80's or '90's.
