I remember the supreme court had ruled in favor of the athletes. What I did not remember was the decision was 9-0 😳 Considering how divided the courts have been and the multitude of 5‐4 decisions I find this somewhat amazing.

The majority of Supreme Court cases are unanimous, 8-1, or 7-2.  The ones that are split along ideological lines just get the most press attention.

😂 Me too. Its was surprisingly harder to find the votes on the decisions without having to read the opinions or going through each docket than I suspected it would be. After about 20 mins this was the best I could find.

What you'll find if you read the dissenting opinions of the "All other rulings" category, is that often the dissenting opinion doesn't actually disagree with the main crux of the case.  They disagree with a minor aspect, or disagree with how narrow or broad the ruling should be (i.e. should this case set precedent for other similar cases), or sometimes just want to have their thought process documented for posterity.  If they literally had to check a box of yay or nay with no ability to explain their rationale, I think you'd see over 50% unanimous.

Every time I see "N.I.L" it seems to conjure up the word 'nil' because of the opposite impact on "playing for the sake of playing." Amateur model in the USA has basically been eliminated, generally speaking, and it was erased decades ago in the Olympic model; and, so, now, it's essentially "all gone" at the college level, except for the non-scholarship level and other forms of sport being competed at simply "for the love of the game." Not that I can't see the value of Name-Image-Likeness coming into play for the highest level athletes today, but it just kind of has slowly ruined a lot of things I appreciated and/or loved, since I was a guy who played collegiately for the love of the sport and for my coaches and the camaraderie with my fellow teammates. Fortunately Nebraska football appears to have a leader and an AD who understood that the NU program needs guys who truly love to play/compete, and the same idea seems to have permeated to a lot of the sports at Dear Old Nebraska U.

All this has done is further separated the blue-bloods. It has also been a boon for athletes with a social media presence.

There is a D2 wrestler that I follow at Wisconsin Parkside named

Cayden Henschel. He has a decent following on YouTube. His content is all about his wrestling which has raised the profile of Wisconsin Parkside. Because of NIL he can monitize his videos with sponsorships. He’s in the process of creating his own line of wrestling shoe. He’s worth of follow.

Not even sure why they still call this NIL.  It is a Pay for Play model and has nothing to with Name, Image and Likeness anymore.  Recruiting is all about how much can we pay you to get you to come to our school.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/nil-driven-las-vegas-college-basketball-event-with-millions-paid-to-schools-is-nearly-finalized/

A one-of-a-kind revolutionary regular-season men's basketball event to be staged later this year in Las Vegas is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, CBS Sports has learned. Its selling point is based on the major factor that has drastically altered college sports over the past three years: name, image and likeness compensation for players.

Games will be played in November under the umbrella of an event dubbed the "Players Era Festival," which will also include live music and other attractions for fans amid the glitz of the Las Vegas Strip during Thanksgiving week. In a college sports first, the event will also include $1 million NIL payouts for eight participating schools. What's more, players involved will have future earnings opportunities through long-term NIL contracts, sources told CBS Sports.

Alabama, Houston, Notre Dame, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State and Texas A&M are all on board, sources said. The eighth and final school for the 2024 event will emerge from a small group that is still being deliberated.

Way to go, Trev. You did good!  I'm not mad he left. It looks we might be better off with the change of leadership.  I have a feeling this event won't happen.  I also know you reap what you sow.  Good luck, A&M.

Yeah this kinda feels like Pandoras Box. I feel an event like this grabs the attention of people that can try and regulate NIL.

Oh this event is happening.  I’d be more shocked if someone tried to stop it.  Welcome to unregulated NIL— we’ve been heading this direction for a long while.

You definitely don’t have to like things like this. But you better learn to play the game or you’ll only hinder your own team.  Events like this will only continue to draw the best of the best and eyes will be on it.

NIL is here to stay.  We’ll see how long unregulated NIL goes.  Contracts, collective bargaining, etc will all come at some point I think.  If it doesn’t, things like this will only grow and grow.

That's been my thought, too.  That someday there will be no National Letter of Intent.  High school seniors will negotiate a contract directly with the school for the amount of compensation and time they want to stay at that school.  Pay for performance, baby!

Creighton just bought out their spot in the Battle 4 Atlantis to join this tourney. Insane.

All about the dollar bills for players now. Can’t pass up having an extra million in hand for the next 3 years.
