After the BC game Miles also stated that by every metric they use he is our most efficient player.  Makes you wonder why he's just getting 17.5 minutes a game.  Foul trouble?  Not sure whose minutes he takes but it would be nice to get him up to 25 if possible.

He's on sort of a Tai Webster type trajectory in terms of usage. I'd like to see him get there faster than Tai because I think he's the superior scorer and shooter.

 

For those that don't know TS% = True shooting percentage. 

From Kenpom: True shooting percentage (TS%): (New) This is Gasaway’s old PPWS divided by 2. It’s like eFG%, but throws in trips to the line and converts it to a shooting percentage that approximates what 2-point percentage a player would need to have to score the points he produces on all of his shooting attempts.

Foul trouble mostly. There is a reason that Tim was giving him the business after two Minny guys ran into each other and the refs called it on him.

Also that 4 minutes vs Long Beach St drags down that average. You throw that game out and you're looking at 19.1 mpg

 

If you look back up at those numbers i posted his Fouls/40 minute average is 6.4. He's obviously athletic enough to where he can move to avoid some of those things so it's mentally being locked into not committing unnecessary fouls. For some guys that never happens. For him, it's probably just a matter of when.

Better depth, and probably because of the late-season swoon that has plagued this program since 2014, Miles wants to try to keep guys fresher for the stretch run in February and March.

The bigger issue is that he rotates with Copeland and Copeland is getting the starter minutes and Roby is getting bench minutes.  Fouls might have limited his minutes in a few games but there have been many games where he wasn't in foul trouble and still got less than 20 minutes a game.  The impact Roby can have on a game is sometimes the difference between winning and losing.  No reason Roby should be getting some of Jordy's minutes.

Agreed.  Seem to be a better team without Jordy out there.  Was really hoping he'd develop his off hand in the off season.  On the other side of this, Jordy may also just appear* more oafish and uncoordinated with this year's team who, in my view, is much more athletic than last year's team.

While I also agree that Roby should get a few more minutes, it was nice to hear (or read) Miles the other day continue to back Jordy even though he is struggling.  Jordy needs to take that and run with it.  I remember a quote stating something like "No one is taking it harder than Jordy himself."  At some point, we are going to need Jordy and what he can provide.  It is nice to not have him totally in the dog house and it is nice that we can afford to allow him minutes to try and improve.

 

With Roby, he is far and away better than he was last year right now.  The fluidity that he plays with is much more smooth right now than at any point in the previous year.  He will only get better as well.  He has such a high upside that it is hard to not to get giddy whenever he is on the court.  He also seems to have a good head on his shoulders and should be someone that won't stop working... even if he does become the best player on the court some day.

I will repeat this for at least the forth time...if Isaiah Roby is coming off the bench this year, it tells me we will have a dang good team.  This dude is as talented a player we have had at UNL in years.

Agree.  And it's not just because he isn't starting.  It is truly because we have a legit and capable starting 5 and 4 deep bench.  Overall has to the the most well rounded team that Nebraska has had in quite some time.  Still looking to put all the puzzle pieces together, but the pieces are at least there.

Absolutely! I don't think we are advocating for Roby to start; we are just advocating for Roby to get more minutes.

Me too.  We need to go to the positionless basketball concepts that so many NBA teams are using.  This is the type of roster that requires it.  And we can get more movement on offense without the big fella clogging things up so much.

To Royal's point about "clogging things up", it appears to me that Glynn is often expending lots of energy dealing with aggressive hedges on high pick and rolls. Bringing the big guy out for the screens does sometimes does appear to be clogging things up. I wonder if, at times, we might be better served by clearing out a side of the court and letting him take guys off the dribble without an on-ball screen. Seems to me he could beat guys one-on-one and either get to the basket or find the open man after help comes. I know we have run some sets with Taylor at point with Glynn running off of some screens, which is a nice wrinkle.

With Roby the thing that always bothered me was that I thought he wasn't playing with enough confidence, and that's why I wasn't a huge fan of the way Miles always yelled at him. I wasn't so much worried about a potential transfer. Hearing the way Miles describes yelling at him is an interesting one, and makes a lot of sense looking back at everything. I also understand that Miles expects everything from him because he does have the potential to be great, so Miles is just that much harder on him than everyone else, which could be a positive or could be a hinderence.
