What do we need tonight to pull out a win....?

Obviously our top two scorers need to play well or we are going to really struggle but for me-- we need a third scorer to emerge. My prediction is Copeland gets on track, pours in 15-17, Taylor & Roby make enough glue plays down the stretch and we pull out a big road win.

 

What do you think we need to do tonight to get a W? I can't wait!!!!

Have our size be an advantage and use it to exploit their lack of size not the other way around.

 

Our bigs were essentially neutralized in the first game. Cant let St. Johns do that to us.

I haven't seen St. Johns play. Are they primarily a man or a zone defensive team?

* Defend the perimeter...hold them to 30% or so from the 3-point land

* Score when we get to the rim.

* Make 75 to 80% from the line...and oh yeah, get to the line.

* Play tough/aggressive yet stay out of foul trouble.

* Finally, do not wear black....just kidding, I know we will be wear our black uni's tonight.

We didn’t R, E, S, last night.

While it wasn’t a bad loss... the way we lost was bad.  Didn’t E2.

 

Made t tougher to get the T, but still attainable.

How 'bout a frontline of Jordy, Isaac, and Isiah? POUND that rock inside and OWN the lane. Let's get Jim and Evan up those little 3 pointer shooters and shut them DOWN. Like Miles said in the paper , we have to pick our spots on the fastbreak and not get in a track meet. Take advantage of our size, keep this thing in the 60s or 70s and we'll walk out with a win.

To me it's about setting the tempo and minimizing turnovers.  St John's has 30+ points off of turnovers in their first two games.  Having to defend us for any amount of time will be bothersome as well, leading to FT opportunities for us.

St. John's forces a lot of turnovers (20+ per game). We need to protect the basketball and limit turnovers.

I agree.  If we come away with a win I think it will be because we finally got Jordy going on the offensive end.  He has looked lost thus far the first two games.  If we can take advantage of the size mismatch we can pull out the win.  That, and defense the three point line.

-Perimeter Shooting:  Need 35% or more.

-Perimeter Defense:   Same threshold or less.

-Post Efficiency:   Can't have Jordy shooting 20% (his total for the year).   Needs to capitalize on touches.

We truly have a chance in this one.  We need to be ready to play.

FORTUNATELY ... this is a St. John's team without a real dominant big man, so we're not likely going to have to worry about doubling the post.  At all.  They have a 6'11" back up center, but he weighs in at 205# pounds. Not kidding.  

 

That should help with our ability to defend the perimeter.  Which is really important tonight because 45% of their shot attempts have come from beyond the arc and they have 6 or 7 guys who are legit threats to hit them.  We need to be in their grills and make those shots tougher shots.

 

Our length should be an advantage.  Their guards aren't real tall.  Their back court of Lovett and Ponds is 6'0", 6'1".  On the wing, Justin Simon is 6'5".  Their 4th guard, Bashir Ahmed, is 6'7".  And then they run a starting PF in Mich St transfer Marvin Clark and he's also 6'7".  

 

So, in addition to not having to double the post and recover to shooters (please, please, please) we also have an added advantage of length on the perimeter.  Hopefully that length causes them problems in us both closing out on shooters and pinching the driving lanes.

 

On offense, mostly don't turn the ball over, be aggressive going to the rim and drawing fouls (they aren't very deep either), and, when you get to the line, hit the damn free throws.

 

Really hope either Allen or Gill are available and ready to play tonight.  Our guard depth is not good right now if those two are out.

Miles usually sits some of our regulars in order to match up with our opponents size wise rather then the other way around.

I guess having horrific spacing, and driving with no lane flying in and tossing up something to be blocked easily or have no chance of going in wasn't what we needed to do.
