I have always kind of liked Lee, but I do know there are many who do not.  That said, I believe this is an excellent article, and certainly recommend reading it.  It made me feel pretty darn good about this team, and what the future may hold.

One thing that really annoys me is when an article attempts to make a comparison between the football and basketball teams. At Nebraska, that comparison is apple and oranges. The comparison of a football blue blood vs a basketball program that has almost virtually not history of success.

Love the positive pub for basketball.  Why take little cheap shots at the football team?  Can't one article just be positive with no negative shots in there!?!?

Just my 2 cents, but I believe it was as much about cheap shots at NU Football as it was positives at NU Basketball.

Barfknecht doesn't do positive.  If you want syrupy pandering positivity, read Shatel.  Problem is he's all Bluejay all the time now, so...

At least he didn't call out the entire administration?

He kinda did.  While not mentioning Eichorst by name, the comment about "The student-athlete experience" left no doubt that was a shot at SE.  Personally I am OK with it, and I wouldn't describe the shots on the Gerry debacle to be "cheap".   Could have been done in a separate article, but it was all pretty valid.

I don't need to know who Player 1 was, but I'd love to know who Player 2 was.

My money is on Player 2 being Tai. He might seem mild mannered but I feel he takes basketball seriously and all that time earlier in his career of training with Petteway might have rubbed off on him.

No insider info, maybe more wishful thinking. I really like Tai.

I'd put $ on Tai, too. Dude is a winner.

Wait I'm not following, who is player 1?

We don't really want to know.  But if anyone who knows is willing to tell me privately who Player #2 is, please PM me.

The following snippet from the article is, in a nutshell, why people were not wrong for suggesting this team would be better without Andrew White than with him:

“I told our guys in a meeting that you’ve got to knock Nebraska out because they keep coming,’’ Turgeon said. “We never knocked them out. We built a 13-point lead. The game was practically over.

“But they cut it from 13 to five way too quick. We played well against a good team, a tough team. But it wasn’t enough.’’

Miles agreed that toughness was the difference at Maryland because the Huskers hardly played their best basketball, missing all seven 3-pointers in the second half and battling foul trouble.

“These guys are a tough-minded team,’’ Miles said. “They practice hard and they play hard and stay with it. That was the thing, to not freak out and stay with it.’’

After Gardner-Webb, Miles and his staff initiated a stress test to see if the players had been broken by the nonconference experience or hardened by it.

Practices, to use the popular term, were bloodbaths — taking charges, diving for loose balls, battling for rebounds all the way to the walls of the training complex. Football defensive coordinator Mark Banker ought to check it out.

On one of those rugged days, a Husker we’ll call Player 1 questioned the sanity of such drills. Player 2, with full backing from his teammates, told Player 1 he was inclined to wipe the floor with Player 1 if the questioning of the coaches continued.

If this was the "ladies" team, the coach would be fired. Player 2 would transfer to Washington. Player 1 would still be on the team standing in one spot on defense with her hands down, periodically tugging at her pants to keep them from falling down.

Oh man, I know the year is young, but that has to end up as post of the year.  That is a seriously good effort, Fred!

Anyone who remembers the Nebraska football team of the mid-90's can certainly relate to the "conversation" between player one and player two.  Anybody who slacked at the Husker football practices had to face, among others, Wistrom and the Peter brothers.  I thought Lee bringing up who was leading the team was on point and very important: "... average teams are led by coaches, great teams by players and bad teams by neither."

It is also important to note that Coach Miles agreed with many of us on this board when 'he simplified the offense and asked his team to play with greater pace...'.  The point Lee then made, which is very important, by simplifying the offense, it empowers the players and lessons the role of the coach.

Again, he may have meandered to unnecessary topics at times, but the overall article was very well done and a compliment to the program.

On a side note, I am in agreement about things said about football.  I do believe the staff is doing a good job.  There has been exponential growth of the program since Coach Riley arrived.  Many people, including myself, believe talent needs to continue to be upgraded.  But we also need to gain back that nasty edge and accountability that is still lacking.  I do not advocate bringing in bullies and jerks, but you have to own the mentality that every inch of the turf is owned by you and your team.  Any centimeter taken away from you has to be personal.  If and when we get to the top in any sport, you have to have jimmies and joe's, program elite-ness and players who own their position.

The one thing I am 100% in agreement with in the article is the comparison/jab at Gerry. No captain should put himself before the the team in such an irresponsible manner. Just tired of him....and the fact all the football players were backing him? Hilarious. I know he brought a lot to the program physically but that's not the type of captain I want leading our team

Nailed it with this post.  .

I have no inside information on this at all - but if I was betting I would say Player 2 would be Morrow.  Again - just a pure guess not based on any factual knowledge.

Have heard Taylor also.  But nothing beyond speculation at this point.
